  • Xanga TRUE

We just rolled out a new program called Xanga TRUE.

We already have a LIFE badge that we display for our lifetime premium members.  We *hugely* appreciate the support of all of our premium users – especially those who have committed to Xanga for Life.  It’s an incredible honor, and we hope that the LIFE icon recognizes our lifetime supporters for all their support.

Lately though, we’ve been looking for a way to also recognize our most active members: members who blog and comment a lot, who help out in our help forums, and who help us test out new features.  We heard from our lawyers that giving out free lifetime to helpers might create legal issues.  So we came up with a TRUE program, which lets us recognize our most active members without any legal issues.

We’re still working out the details of the program.  For now, we’ve only given out 4476 TRUE badges – and only to sites that we’ve personally inspected.  (Another 5k badges are on their way – feel free to drop us a line about this!). We’re still working out the details of the program, including:

    • Will TRUE status ever be available to Friends Locked sites?
    • Will a site ever lose their TRUE status if they stop updating?
    • Will TRUE members get any benefits?
    • If you don’t have a TRUE badge, can you appeal or apply for one?

But while we work out these details, we wanted to recognize the people who contribute so much content and help to Xanga.  All of us Xanga users depend on you guys!  If you didn’t update, we’d have nothing to read… and if you didn’t comment, we’d all get fewer comments.  So thank you to everyone who is TRUE!  You make the site better for all of us.

    John

  • This is good to know, thanks!

  • Awesome. Love the concept. Don’t make it too inclusive and/or easy to apply for, or it loses its meaning.

  • I am honored to be labeled TRUE.  Now I just need to come up with the money to go lifetime premium.

I agree with the above comment.  Please don’t make being TRUE too common.  It will lose it’s specialness otherwise!

  • to be one of the 4,476 TRUE…is too cool…

I’m honored, and glad to help where I can.  I’m more excited that y’all actually listen to us (can’t get that with those “other guys”)

    Blessings.

  • well, smart thinking you guys!

  • I’m still not certain how I feel about this system.  At first I liked it, then I worried it would cause trouble, and now I think I’m swinging back towards liking the idea.  I would also like to echo two of the previous commenters who worried that TRUE badges could become commonplace.

    Good luck.

  • I suspect this might make people think they are better than others, but oh well.
    Good job, Xanga team!

  • what a lovely concept. thanks :)

  • I am really, really honored to be chosen. What a great idea.

  • Thanks for the explanation.  I look forward to more info.

  • Wow, who’d have thought my addiction to xanga would actually mean something to someone. :)

    Thanks!

  • Perhaps you should remind people that is 4476 out of how many Xanga users?

    Thanks for thinking of us!

  • I felt kinda bad when I got the sub from True then was told I was kicked because I was friends only

Some of us just feel more comfy with friends only staus

I do hope you figure something out…

  • Thank you, Xanga.  Thank you for recognizing me and all my time and effort (perhaps too much) I put into my site.  :D

  • help forums? i guess i missed where that is…so i would like to help too!

  • I am flattered that someone personally inspected my site (I hope I vacuumed before you showed up ). I feel so loved! I really like that you guys did this for us. Very cool.

  • I think this is a nice gesture and I don’t get why so many people are irked about it.  Well, maybe they aren’t happy unless they are miserable.

    And, thanks for including me.

  • Thanks, when you inspected my site were there any flaws.  I mean I want to live up to my True status, so please let me know.  Also, when should I give my True acceptence speech?  I know you really did not want to recognize the other 4475 people, but you felt like you had to.  In all seriousness, thanks, I heart Xanga.

  • I always wanted to get the LIFE, but I just can’t budget my income right to have enough money to pay for it. It usually ends up going to Unicef, Sierra Club, Green Peace, or Liberty in North Korea.. I will, however, get Xanga Life once I have enough money. I got the message saying that I was one of the 4476 people to get the “TRUE”. sweet.

  • A list of criteria to meet for obtaining the badge would be great.  I feel fortunate to have obtained one, and thank you for selecting me.  I suppose if everyone has it, then it’s really not all that special. But I like that Xanga recognizes, in some manner, positive contributers to the Xanga world though.  I understand about the legal issues for free xanga.  And imagine you’d possibly end up with photos of 1200+ people with XANGA tattooed on their rear ends too… haha… not a pretty picture.

Some ideas to consider:- I think Xanga could use a feature that lets us know when our Xanga friends are having a birthday (or other special event)… That would be really great!!- A Xanga IMPACT logo could be cool too… (or something to that affect)that  recognizes Xanga users who’ve impacted other people’s lives.  It could be a media opportunity for Xanga too perhaps, if all parties are in agreement to have the story publicized (Example: dawn_1o9 - who contributed news about events in Myamar from a citizen’s perspective).- I also think that if someone gives a “Mini”, that the receiver of the Mini should receive credit points equal to the amount of credits “paid” by the giver… Example:  If I “pay” 5 credits for giving you the Valentine Mini, you would have the image -plus- an additional 5 credits in your “credit bank”.

  • I forgot to say, I especially like xanga over myspace, facebook, friendster, etc. etc. mainly because I believe writing attests more about the person than grandiose list of profile items can show (name, age, sex, looking for, relationship status, etc.).

yea, picture can speak a thousand words, but when we can’t take a picture, we write it.

  • @Ryan_is_a_noob - But I am better than others.  I’m just kidding.  Anyone that thinks that has serious problems.

  • @danlang - I agree, if your going to do something like this, you can’t give to all.  Even when they beg : wink:

  • Think I should be a TRUE member. =P
Seeing as I’ve had my lovely xanga since December of ’04. ;D

  • What a fabulous SURPRISE!!! Thanks.

  • Congrats to all that have earned that title!

  • I love my true badge, thanks xanga team…very cool indeed!!!

  • Yeah… we rock.

  • I hope I get one soon… :P

  • hey, thanks for the badge!  much appreciated.  am glad to help out or give feedbacks, contribute any way possible.  i felt a little guilt, cuz i haven’t been as active as i used to be with blogging and commenting, but them’s the shakes when life gets busier.  still, xanga is my first blog-love and will continue to be so.

  • I am honored to be in the first batch of True

  • Dang Xanga, you guys are trying hard!

  • I WAS wondering how you were able to inspect that many people. Xanga rocks :)

  • Regular Xangans update everyday, never thinking they’d be recognized for blogging! This really is a nice program! Awesome concept!

  • I hope to earn my true badge.

  • Thanks for my badge!!

  • wow. i’m starting to see true bring some members back from myspace. i think this is a good thing. i’m so anti-myspace.

  • Sort of random comment, sort of in response to @TakingxOverxMe , how can we find out how long we’ve had Xanga? I was pretty sure there was an “oldest” link (for blog posts), but I can’t seem to find it… and rather than sifting through sometime in 2002, which is when I think I got my Xanga… I’d maybe want to be able to jump back. Or at least have  a sort of “You’ve been a member since X/XX/XX whatever. Maybe that’s somewhere I’m not looking.

  • It is pretty cool.  I’ve noticed alot of my subscribers and people I sub to have them.  Looks like I pick the blogs I read well.

  • Actually, might i suggest that you don’t allow people to apply but rather have people nominate blogs.

  • @danlang - it should be on your profile module under your profile pic, name, etc. – you’ve been on since September 23, 2002!

  • this is all about status…who really cares?

  • well i guess i was sad that i didn’t get one…but i was even sadder that you didn’t give one to dan.

i think dan should have one.

  • Thanks for the True Badge! I do feel that True members should get some benefits, though. But if that never happens, the badge is enough for me!

  • Why are the majority of the people here the ones who got “true” badges? And as for personally inspecting each one, why is there one “True” xanga with nude pics on it?

Frankly, I’ve been on xanga since 2001 (under a different user name at the time…) and I have tried to contribute when I could. I guess True badges aren’t retroactive..:P All well…

  • To the Xangan Gods that bestowed TRUE on us:

I’ve been posting almost daily since June 2003. I’ve been a premium member from
the beginning and a life member since Aug 2007. That’s a lot of bad internet ad
views, and a considerable chunk of money and time invested in Xanga. Frankly, TRUE
is a real slap in the face to your non-TRUE lifetime users and to those who
have been using all the features of your service; like friends lock, or
protected posting on a consistent basis. You can’t BUY true. You just have to BE true. So now, when I log into my protected blog, I get to see all
the little TRUE badges in all my comments and subscriptions, reminding me that
my nearly FIVE YEAR contribution to Xanga is NULL and VOID because I have not
unwisely limited my audience to adults and women with similar interests.I feel it is unfortunate that you have decided to label users in this way. To
honor “the best” as featured content or as “voted best by the
community” is a completely different situation. An HONOR is different from a LABEL.Labels HURT. Even virtual ones.

  • I think it is a load of crap that you will not give me a Xanga True Badge because I have friends lock. I didn’t always but there are too many lurkers! I update 10 TIMES more than half of these people that you gave the badge too. C’mon and BE FAIR!

  • So just because I have friends lock does not mean I don’t help Xanga? PLEASE! I think you should be talking to the lurkers about that.

  • thank you :) ))

  • i update everyday and i leave comments to my fds very often, but i am not honored =(

  • OH BABY! i want one…but i’m probably not active enough =/
but its a pretty cool idea though! :D

  • You should read around (use tags) for how people feel about this issue.  I don’t remember a more divisive implementation in my 6+ years at Xanga.

Lots of people have hurt feelings that they weren’t “chosen”, lots of people resent being told they are not “true Xangans” (whatever the hell that means, anyway), and a lot of people who DO have the tag don’t want it and have no opt-out.

I think a lot of what you guys have done lately have been wonderful improvements – the reply to comments, pulses, themes, etc.  But this one is a bad, bad idea.  People hate it.  Everywhere I read, people are feeling bad about one aspect or another of this program.

I don’t think people want to spend years blogging here and paying money for premium just to be told they are not “true” Xangans.  It’s insulting.

  • I love this idea, it really is one of the best you guys have had.  Another idea would be giving a badge to people who people who are premium members but are not quite Life members.  I think that anyone who gives Xanga money deserves a little recognition and stand out from the crowd.

  • @RealityTC - I’m not as vehement in my feelings, but essentially I agree.  No, I don’t post daily, and I don’t always post publicly either, but I’ve been right here doing it since … December 2000.  If I had a “TRUE” badge, I’d probably ask for a way to remove it, because it’s fairly hypocritical to only oppose something when you’re not honored or tagged or labeled or … whatever.

I think this likely appeals to a younger crowd that would be interested in things like the top friends feature on myspace.   I think maybe we need fewer labels, not more, but I know I’m in the minority.

That being said, I loves me some Xanga and I know the team consistently works hard to make Xanga better, faster, smarter, cooler.  Keep up the good work, you guys.

  • I’m not labeled as TRUE xangan, but nevertheless I FEEL TRUE… I have been using xanga for almost 7 years now, I had 3 different accounts, and shut down the others and stick to this account, I even tried using other blog site, but fate still leads me back to xanga.. :D

  • IN YOUR FACE, FALSIES!!!

  • i keed, i keed

  • Sounds really cool!.
I’d get premium once the time around for me to able to purchase one comes around haha.
Xanga Team has been working really hard these days! Guys have come out with many new things in recent months! :D

    Great job Guys.

    -Austin

  • Thank you for my badge!  I LOVE Xanga! I think it’s a really fun idea and a way to recognize frequent contributers. While I can see why people would feel left out if they contribute a lot, but didn’t get the badge, I also don’t get why people are making an issue of it. It’s a brand new idea and people need to give Xanga some time to fully implement the idea. And also, while it’s fun, I don’t see the big deal about not getting it.. there are so many real life things to worry about…. whether or not I get a badge, or whether or not someone leaves me a comment or if someone unsubs to my blog… these are very insignificant things… what happens in the real world is what is important. Blogging for me is about fun… not getting worked up about stuff.

  • @Natalia - Okay, so it still does not explain why I don’t have one. I think you should really look into how you are judging for the “True” badge because you are making a lot of people upset. Was that the purpose of the true campaign? To judge people with protected posts and friends lock?

  • You guys make xanga a great place to express ourselves!

  • Part of me is terribly flattered *blushing*.  I don’t know how many active bloggers you have:  I would like to know, just to see what percentage us True members are.  I am one of those people who offered a chocolate takes two, so I’m just after more flattery really!

Part of me says that True is just short for “Xanga Addict – admit its True”.  And yeah, its true, you have such a great site that even when I give up blogging, I only ever give up blogging elsewhere.

A suggestion – on some sites where the comments are in white, they don’t show up on a Mini, maybe make the Mini-font automatically black or the main colour of the Mini?

  • I started writing a response to your comment on my site, and it got so long I decided to make it blog of its own. Stop by when you have time; I’ll be posting it shortly.

  • How is it possible that I’m NOT a True member?!?  I’m a hopeless Xanga addict!!

  • I was surprised that NFP didn’t get one! hmmmm

  • very very cool.

  • Well I’m honoured that’s for sure

  • I agree with danlang, but I really like the idea.  Go Xanga Team!

  • i can’t belive that is TRUE!
thank a lot and i am pound to be one of them haha

  • just wanted to say i love this site. so much better than myspace cuz i feel alot safr here. of course, ur never completely safe on the internet but with the lower requirement of personal information its alot safer than myspace. thnx for such an awesome site!

                             ~katie~

  • This is just BEAUTIFUL. Which makes Xanga more gorgeous than it already is. Muchas, muchas gracias, Xanga!

  • At first I thought it was some big xanga prank thing that somebody was playing.

  • Thank you Xanga!

    -ray leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • I WANT A TRUE BADGE!!!

  • I’m amazed by how many people seem upset about this. I was just reading the comments and couldn’t believe it.

I think it’s a nice thing to do, and I appreciate it, but I’m secure enough with myself to not get all huffy and out of place over an internet badge, if you will.  I hope people don’t turn this into some huge issue.

  • Good to see something for those who contribute to the Xanga family….most of us in my circle feel like a family spread out around the world…then again a lot of us are old farts with nothing better to do….Good job keep up the great new efforts….

  • Really Xanga? In today’s society, you have to add yet another label? I don’t expect a “TRUE” label. I don’t post daily & I’m severely lacking in the commenting department right now. But I do have friends on here that have been posting daily for years and years and years. They comment daily, they have tons of sub and they are the reason I come to xanga… to see what interesting things they have to say. And I rely on these same people for advice when I need it.

But yet, you are turning these same people away. Whether or not they received the “TRUE” badge is besides the point. You have now managed to turn a “safe community” into a community that labels you and judges you. Its ridiculous. THis is Xanga, not some secret society. Its great to recognize people for their contribution to the Xanga community. But “TRUE?” Really… think about it. Look up the definition of the word. Are those who didn’t receive the badge “untrue?” “False?” With this one little word, this one little badge, you’ve managed to turn Xanga into a judgemental, unsafe, labeling place.I have a feeling I’ll be following my friends to other internet communities… where we don’t have to worry whether someone is going to label us “TRUE” or not.

  • cool

  • YOU guys truly ROCK! Man, I’m honored!

  • Sounds like you all have been doing quite a bit of thinking on this..and continue to do so ‘as you stated above’…I think Xanga is by far the best..superior to others..and it’s just ‘known’ to us who post here…who are ‘part’ of this community they we all love …I liked seeing someone say how it’s better than the others..:) I know some people can really ‘see’ the difference here…I think you are all doing a great job.. I know you will explain more about this as time goes on for those who don’t understand…it obviously involves much reading and thought..and I see you will* be adding more xangans as time goes by..*hope everyone comes to understand what it is ‘truly’ about and  by the way…you guys make Xanga a ‘true’ site for all of us..thank you* for that…and this  was a  ‘sweet surprise’ :) …thank you again..* ……take care all…* Lee Ps glad I saw this..didn’t see this post earlier…*

  • Wow…just reading some of the comments, I’m actually pretty amazed at the negativity. When, in our society do you get acknowledged for contributing something? Never! And here you guys have come along and have decided to do something nice, and you get lambasted for it? Give me a break people!

I completely understand the point of TRUE. I don’t get much traffic on my site, but like myself, there are probably tons of us out there who are really dedicated to their blogs, put lots of thought into each entry AND read other people’s blogs, commenting also thoughtfully on those blogs. In short, making Xanga a community rather than just a random website people visit once in a while. It’s all about building a community; and it’s something I’ve experienced, “meeting” people from around the U.S. and the world through this service that you’ve provided! It’s been amazing.

I just never thought I’d get a pat on the back for it. You know what? In the age we live in, this feels kind of nice.

  • Is there a list of true users that’s public?

  • I wonder how long it takes someone to figure out what combination of comments and posts it takes to make True Xangan.

  • Thanks for the update on the new badge!

  • this is amazing.

  • Wow, it is quite interesting. I am interested in it.
Hope you develop it very soon and I would have chance to have one! =]

  • @danlang -
If you go to your public page, it says “Member Since: 9/23/2002″

  • I’ve been here over three years, posting on and off.
And you couldn’t pay me to be one of the 4400.

  • @TheTheologiansCafe - Since I don’t post … Yeah, I wonder too.

  • i want to make it clear that i was SAD not mad that i didn’t get a true thingy. i still love my xanga and still will be on here all the time :]]

and congrats to those who did get them. i will have to get busy and do some reading of your blogs :]]

p.s.  dan should get one :]]

    <3 emily jo

  • Thank you –you are too kind.  Riding_Hood

  • That’s such a great idea.
I think Xanga is awesome partly because of the community- the commenting, and discussions one can have over a blog.

It’s nice to let active members be recognized :’)

  • oops….didn’t know dan had gotten one :]]]

  • I like. I like. Kudos Guys! You always surprise us with something new every week. :)

  • Perhaps this is going against the flow here, but I’m not much of a fan for the constant additions. Minis are kinda cute, but still rather pointless. With stars, it seems like eprops are unnecessary. Don’t get me wrong, I like xanga. I just feel a bit overwhelmed at times.

  • @OrangeBabeMLE - Thanks for watching out for me Emily.

  • now i’ll just have to work harder for that TRUE badge!!

  • yay! *pokes true icon*
right now the people you select seem to be a bit arbitrary… but i daresay that will improve. maybe a democratic process will do the trick?

  • I’m honored that I’ve been recognized. It’s not that I’m desperate to be recognized or something, but I’ve been blogging a lot, and only very few people ever reads what I wrote about and most of those who get featured are blogs that have seriously no GREAT content whatsoever.
Anyway, thanks for the TRUE badge. Love it! :)

  • If I can’t get a True badge… can I get a Dare?

  • THX

    i’m proud of it.

  • Thanks for choosing me!

  • i just wanna ask… wasn’t i using some kind of new xanga dash a few days ago??? it wasn’t permanent or something??? cuz i really liked the new version…

  • Anyone else having problems with managing members on a blog ring that you are the Leader of?  I went into a blog ring tonight that I am a Leader of, and tried to remove some members, and found out that the “remove” option, no longer exists!  What’s up Xanga?  How can I get this option back??????

  • Interesting to know that there is a number …. that I am in an elite 5000. Out of millions of xangans. Honored, honored I am.

  • nvm… found out what i did wrong… could u set it so that if ppl tried out the new private homepage that they would be transported to the new one whne they put in ‘dash.xanga.com’???

  • Thank you Xanga Team for the fantastic work and for making me a True member. You’ve got yourself an in-coming LIFE member after I finish my studies and get a job  =)  4 years of Xanga ( and still counting) i can’t bear to leave you guys!

  • You’re welcome! Thanks! I never thought I’d get appreciated for using xanga… O_O I always used it because it helped me vent during time of crisis, and rant about anything that was on my mind.

I also met some very close friends through xanga, so honestly, I should be thanking you guys!!Thanks all around, I suppose! =PXanga 4eva!I feel so special.

  • It leaves the not trues in the cold hu? I

I  know people like’ fauquet’, who are there posting from the beginning, 2001 (premiun too), and he doesn’t have the true label. Why?

  • It seems rather pointless to me. Frankly, I don’t want one. I don’t consider myself any less a true member of Xanga, than anyone else, whether someone labels me as such or not.

  • I want one of those….please, please give me, give me…please

  • True xangans = true believer..

  • I’m amazed that my site is one of 4476 that has received a xanga true badge. How many people are on xanga altogether? Is there thousands or millions of sites? Wikipedia says that xanga is ranked 60th most visited site on the internet. Ohh its also telling me there are estimated 40 million users, that means you gave true to 4476/40,000,000 which means I’m in the top 0.01119% of xanga (If I am doing my maths properly). That makes me pretty special.

So you were actually considering giving us free lifetime for being special, hey? Too bad the lawyers talked you out of it, that would have been a nice gift. I’m from Australia so I need to work out the conversion rates to buy US$100 lifetime, so it will be more expensive for me in my currency.

    -Heidi

  • Hey cool I got one xD – And now to try and get featured!! (Hardly any non US users gets featured dam it!)

  • so how do you get chosen?  does making tons of themes count?  haha  j/k   just curious

  • Well damn the man…thank you very-much! True…Yes, I am a true Xangarelic and I am addicted to blogging. I think at your first convention you should have a room where all of us addicts can get together, stand up and say, My name is [insert blog name here] and I am a Xanga addict, hell, even the X-gods know it!!!

    HA!

    Thanks yo!

    Sail on… sail on!!!

  • <li>Will TRUE status ever be available to Friends Locked sites?
    yes.
<li>Will a site ever lose their TRUE status if they stop updating?
    yes.
<li>Will TRUE members get any benefits?
discount to premium? more storages space? free to backup their diary?

  • ohhhhh this sounds nice!!!!

  • Great idea!

  • This sounds like a great thing to try out. Yall are ten times better than myspace facebook n all that mess!

  • Ah dude Im one WOOP awesome!!

  • everyone that i personally brought to xanga has a TRUE badge!

but I have friends lock, because I would rather the lawyers that i work with not know my innermost thoughts.

  • Thank You! I do agree though… it shouldn’t be too easy to get.  But friends locked people who are TRUE in every other sense should get it.  Some people prefer their privacy…. but are very active.

  • i love you guys!

  • very interesting idea!

  • I agree with what Luvthewaves said (about the Friends Lock). It makes to feel bad that some people around me are wearing badges proudly and happily and mine is like, going through customs. daw. But I know (hope) you guys are working on it.

@katie0873 - IMPACT and the Mini credits – awesome suggestions. =]

  • i actually feel honored for having the little true thingie now.  i didn’t really understand what was going on with it at first.    now i feel valued!  thank you!

  • how many users are there in xanga?

  • hopefully one day i’ll get it

  • I really appreciate it, and I like the badge and all… but is there any way we can maybe choose to display it on our profile but not in every comment or something?  I think it’s kind of cool, but at the same time… I fear that it may hurt the feelings of about 90% of the people I regularly comment on who are not “true” (yet).  Just a thought, maybe something to work into the details you’re already looking at.

On a semi-related note, it would also be cool if we could display the “life” bade in our profile (or on the profile info module) without it showing up next to every comment.

Anyway, like I said, not that big of a deal.  I think it’s awesome and it will hopefully encourage a lot more quality content and participation

  • xanga is my first love, and after secretly flirting with you guys for so long, i feel like you just caught your first glimpse of me…whoa

~gasp~ now what do i do?!

  • thanks for choosing me

    & I think it’s a great idea!:D

  • So what was the criteria for the TRUE badge, I would love to see what statistics were involved!

  • I think it’s fun … and to be honest  it is disappointing to head over to a site and it hadn’t been updated in a year and someone just left the account open without getting to it.

thank’s for picking me to be a TURE member.. I love Xanga.. I use the rss feed for facebook and another one hahaha

  • yay for being a TRUE xangan! :)

but i am confused how come Shi (www.xanga.com/shi) and Radjbo (www.xanga.com/radjbo) aren’t true. They are long time actives here on Xanga. :(

  • like i’ve said a hundred times to y’all, and haven’t gotten a response, “can i have my TRUE ankle-monitor taken off?”

it’s not that i don’t appreciate being recognized for commenting and posting…that’s not it.

i just wondered if this TRUE thing has some other purpose also. (call me paranoid, lol) like, for example, xanga is checking on i.d.’s and making sure everyone is telling the truth about the identities and/or birthdates. you know, some legal meaning attached and perhaps it’s nice to think we’re being paid for blogging.

    sigh. :)

if i go *friendslock*, can i get it taken off then?

i don’t expect a reply. no one seems to be replying to my view on this, so…

    but hey, THANK YOU ANYWAY!!

  • YAYZ I AM TRUE TOO!! Thanks very muchly!  =^_^=

  • I was a little worried when I got the message saturday that I was selected. Don’t get me wrong, I’m honored, I just thought I’d done something wrong when Marc showed up on my footprints.

  • O_O
I was really surprised that I got a True badge
cuz I still remember there was a point and time when I didnt update AT ALL.
    :]
Funny how my boyfriend uses xanga alot too and he doesn’t even have True. >:]

    Thanks Xanga Team! <333
    Happy Early Valentine’s Day.

  • Sorry John, but like I’ve already told Chris on his ‘truefeed’ blog, after being left hanging in his comments and trying so hard to get feedback, I came to some pretty strong conclusions that the ‘true’ badge plant was a brilliant hack into xanga (reminiscent of myspace spybots and spambots that plant in as a friend and jam up the comments with ads) and blocked Chris from my subs.  I’ve already got LOCKED friends who have the true badge and they never even showed up on the truefeed comments in the first place, so I question the whole validity of what you guys are doing.  I have a locked site, and I shouldn’t have to apologize to the world for that or beg to earn a badge, even though I was doing that on Chris’s truefeed site.  I keep a front page up for passing public, but that’s it.  I don’t mean to sound harsh, but the rollout on this was so haphazard that I’m having a hard time with it.  I felt singled out for refusal based ONLY on one bit of criteria.  If I have to beg or ’work’ or become an exhibitionist just to get that badge, after automatically winding up on the first honor list in line for it without even asking for it, then that’s pretty poor sport.  I have a list of SOME of the xanga blogs I own on my front page, one of them is lifetime and 4 years old, and can prove through site trackers that I get traffic from over 60 countries on it, so I feel like I pretty much put xanga ‘out there’.  But if all you guys care about is whether the entire world can see us yap every day, this is just a pissing contest with the other blog hosts out there, not something you’re really rewarding us with.  Sorry, I got into a pretty bad mood over this one.

  • I was quite surprise that I got picked as well

  • Wow…didnt know true was being limited to so few…now i do feel honored…thanks

  • I have mixed feelings about being left out also. I’ve been on Xanga since 2003 and became a Life member a couple of years later.  I’ve been posting consistently since I changed the blog’s focus.  My blog may have limited interest as per the consensus of Xanga but my purpose for blogging was never meant to appeal to the masses. I paid for Life and it’s not easy to jump ship to Blogger or Typepad, etc. and so I stay on Xanga. Until recently it was difficult for nonXangans to leave comments and the majority of my limited audience do not want to register just to leave comments and/or message me. I have only had one request in my 4 1/2  Xanga years and that was to change my username without having to delete my current premium Life account and start over but alas that request was not answered. Although, I feel slighted by the True label, it has always been your perogative and your business.

  • that would be sweet to get benefits with it though! :D otherwise it might as well be pointless :P

  • That’s pretty cool actually.  I don’t always post every day, but I try to contribute to discussions on featured content and check out what everybody has to say.  And hey, today I posted in response to the most recent featured content HERE

  • I think thats a great idea for people who have Xanga abut can’t afford to be a Xanga LifeTime member, but who update and post comments and things like that.  So thanks for thinking of us Xangaers(LOL) and Thanks for keep this site as great as its always been!

  • Sounds cool!  I like being to earn things from xanga. From minis to a True badge, it’s exciting.

  • sweet! I like this idea!

  • i will not be renewing my premium on march 9th. especially i’ve not received any responses from my requests for what this is all about. not that that’s going to stop the xanga wheel from turning, haha. but i’m a little offput by noone responding. i sent an email to your business office also.

i had enjoyed xanga up until this *true* thing.

    sadly,

    lea

  • @Be_The_Rain - We’re adding an optout that hides your badge.  We’ll be posting about it shortly; you can use that to hide your badge, or let me know if you want it removed completely and I can make sure you’re no longer in the True system!

Sorry for the delay in responding today, we’ve been prepping these changes to the True program all day and I haven’t had a chance to go through these comments yet.

    John

  • how cool is that!
    ~Skyla

  • I wanna be true when I grow up… :)

  • @katie0873 - I like the mini idea.

  • love it
    i feel super honored
    ( : awright

  • I don’t think I have this famous “true” badge but then I don’t care to be in any of the clicks and that is what this looks like.

  • THIS is a cool idea!

  • True XANGA, True friend to me :)

  • damn, i bet my other site would qualify if i didnt have to have it locked. but i write my journaling on there, so no way can i make it public.

  • This is great! And yeah, happy heart’s day Xanga team!

  • Thanks for making me a True Member.. I love Xanga since 2004 :) I try to update as much as I can.

  • Thank you Xanga! Now I know all that time I spent procrastinating… er writing on Xanga paid off! LOL. Thanks also for creating a great platform on which we can find a good community.

  • i think this is a very cool idea! it makes me want to use xanga more to earn such a cool thing :]

  • This new way of recognizing those that contribute to the site seems to be a good one, especially for those whose sites are open to the public. But there are also many sites in which their content prevents them from being open to the general public. i do hope that you will also reward those sites whose owners are active in giving comments to others and is faithful in blogging often.

  • Sounds like a fun idea. I don’t expect to get one of these badges seeing as that all I do is update everyday but never comment…at least not anymore. Alas the woes of a lone blogger floating in a sea of friends who went the way of facebook.

  • I’m glad to have this TRUE badge

and this concept is quite good also!!

  • Ah, now I understand how I got mine. Thank you all very much for the honor. I love Xanga and I’ve enjoyed it immensely. I enjoy helping out when I can, to make this a better place for all of us. I would do it without a True badge, to be honest. Because it was my first blog home and the one I take the most seriously.

Thanks again, John and everyone else at Xanga. You guys rock. I really do feel special now.

  • <3 thanks for the treat!

  • I can’t wait to see what the official end requirements are.  I used to post nearly every day for 2-3 years, but started to get bored because there wasn’t much of an incentive to keep posting so regularly.  This might change things around.

  • I have been here since 2001! I have been faithful to Xanga. I deserve a True badge!

  • True, True blue…. :)

  • LOL  I have been w/ Xanga since 4/05 and I guess i’m not “true” yet.  LOL

  • I love you guys! You guys are amongst the best – very well done and keep up the great work Xanga!

    XINYU HU

  • Thats a really cool idea, subscribe to my site, i havent been on for a long time, but im always updating

  • Thanks for the the TRUE badge, guys! :)

  • aww cool! this makes me want to have one! lol
    can I be one?

  • thats neat, i saw someone else or a couple of people write this but i wanted to say it again because i agree that it shouldn’t be too inclusive or easy to get into.

  • i want to have a TRUE !!! =]
