  • Xanga Powered Sites FAQ

http://s.xanga.com/images/mainlogo.gifHey guys, just a heads up that we’re launching some new sites using the same technology that powers Xanga.  As the sites start to trickle out there, we’re getting some questions – so I thought a quick FAQ might help:

Why is Xanga launching new sites?

A lot of advertisers see Xanga as a general interest site, even though we have lots of different groups of people on here!  For example, we have tons of moms on the site… but advertisers that want to reach moms never think of Xanga (even though we have way more moms than a lot of sites they do advertise on).  So we’re looking into a mom-focused blogging community that’s just like Xanga, but using a different URL.  We’re looking into applying the same idea to a few other blogging communities too.

What other types of blogging communities are you looking to launch besides moms?

So far, we’ve launched a hiphop site (hoodstars.com) and a christian
one (revelife.com).  We’re also looking at a mom site (momaroo.com),
and considering a blog about relationships and dating (no name for that
one yet though – any ideas?).

Won’t these sites just send moms (or whoever) off of Xanga?

When doing research , we talked to a lot of our  moms – and they have no desire to move off of Xanga.  But if there’s a mom on another blogging community, they would like to be able to interact with them.  So that’s the idea we’re going with here.  You don’t have to leave Xanga to interact with any of these sites, or create accounts on any other sites.  You’ll be able to use your existing Xanga account to comment on any sites that uses Xanga technology.

How will these sites be different from Xanga?

The main difference is that there will be a group blog on the frontpage of
these sites.  Why a group blog?  Because big advertisers don’t like to
put their names next to content that’s not vetted (that’s why, for
example, we hand-select the blogs that get featured on the Xanga
    frontpage).  More on that later…

What does this mean for Xanga.com?

Mostly it means more money and resources for us to invest in Xanga.  All the sites will be using our Xanga Platform, so we’ll be able to invest in features and bug fixes across the entire suite of sites.  As for Xanga.com itself, we’ll continue to put our heart and souls into the site!  We love Xanga and the Xanga community…

How will this impact me, the average user on Xanga?

    Umm… not very much?

What if my question isn’t answered here?

Please comment below, and we’ll do our best to reply in the comments!

    Thanks,
    John

  • This is great, I look forward to checking out the new spots. how about one for people not living in the States?

  • hey I’m a mom and you didn’t ask my opinion : fake hurt :  So can I belong to both?  I know you said we can comment on both but can I have a blog over there and here?

  • this is a really great idea.

  • @momofjenmatt - yes, but it appears they use the same cookie so unless you use separate browsers you can’t be logged into both at the same time (someone correct me if i’m wrong but that was my experience).

  • Excellent John and Xangateam!!!  Thanks for some clarification.  Can we talk about providing some Xanga platform to those of us who already have websites?

  • ::Raising my hand::  What about teachers?   You’ve got a lot of teachers here.

  • sounds great!   will we be able to subscribe to users at the other sites and visa versa?

  • I’ve already done this and it’s great. I subscribed to someone on Revelife from my xanga site.

  • Cool beans.

I was wondering who momaroo was and why they were subbing to me earlier, LOL
Is it that obvious I am a mom?  Wait.. I should read my own blog once..

  • Sounds like a good idea, actually.  Better than you folks working on things that no one really uses :)

  • for dating and relationships – can you make it like a dear abby style but just call it dearxanga.com?

  • @momofjenmatt - Yah you can belong to both!  (And you’re right, I should’ve checked with you – you have mom in your username!)  But yah to address AMRLion’s comment, we do check to see if you’re signed into Xanga first I believe.

@edlives - We’re focusing for now on offering the platform to our own sites…

@CarmenDeBizet - We’ll look into teachers and any other site ideas that people mention!

  • I think it’s great that we can use the same account for those sites. I like the hoodstars.com.

  • Hrm, very interesting.  I (optimistically) look forward to seeing how this goes and where it goes.

  • I think its a really good idea, thank you.

But I can’t think of any good names.

  • @john - thanks john…when your ready to expand, I’m interested.

  • @FairyBunnyPrincess - yup, you can subscribe, add friends, leave comments, even join blogrings (we’ll probably just call them “groups” on the other sites) on any of these sites – and vice versa… they’re basically all xanga sites.

  • sounds like a good idea.

  • This is so cool it makes me want to get pregnant just so I can participate.

  • Thank you for explaining.

  • Sounds like a great idea,   cant wait to see how this all plans in the next couple of weeks, months and years.

  • I was wondering about that.  Best of luck to you, folks!

  • you need one for jaded cynical folk…wait. nevermind this is fine

  • @marc - That sounds great.

crap! I misspelled vice versa after all- that’s the last time I trust the firefox spell check LOL

  • That’s fine by me. I’m a Xanga Mom, but that’s not the only thing I talk about! I gotta bitch about other stuff on here too. lol

  • wow, xanga’s really advancing!

  • I love this idea, and think it’s a great way of expanding Xanga without limiting anything that Xanga already does well. For relationships, what about thelotteryoflove.com? I see that’s not taken, ha. (Now watch, someone will snap it up…).

  • You must do what you must do to keep the business profitable. If this will help you do bring in the money while serving the community then it is a step forward. Maybe yo must consider opening it up so that any Xangan can create a specialised community blogging site….

  • It sounds to me like the blogrings will soon become obsolete. Maybe it is time to either get rid of groups, or to make groups a subgroup of the parent i.e. moms xanga will have all related groups there/migrated.

Next you might want to group by geography and location.

  • Oh, God, Nathan (of deflate and kike-saga fame) is going to love this.

    A good idea, though.

  • I like Revelife so much! =)

  • That sounds interesting!

  • The more the merrier…  one musyt never be still for too long… a new child is born

  • I really like that idea. :) good luck xanga team! you guys are wonderful!

  • Alright, you have my permission to proceed.

  • how can i access revelife and xanga at the same time? currently, i have to log OFF first, and then log ON to xanga or revelife separately can you combine them?

  • GREAT idea. keep up the amazing work

  • Cool, I think!!

But first, can you guys get the pop ups off, so that they are not blocking me from reading the blogs?? It is very annoying to have them pop up and stay there for three to four seconds, several times in a minute. I think it is essential that you iron out these inconveniences before tackling bigger issues. I was told, subscribing to premium for a year will take care of that issue…. well, it hasn’t!

  • Call it “Date 1, Date the Other”. I don’t know! I’m just making up names right off the bat! Here, use this Mini to help! You can call it “Forbidden Dating Blog”!

  • The mommie site sounds great, and I can’t wait to use it, but maybe you should make it more general, like a parents blogging site, so that you don’t alienate the daddies either.  We moms are awesome, but I’d love to hear single dads and family guy stories as well.

  • Hows about homeschoolers? That would be pretty flippin sweet.

  • ***i can’t find a way to send the xanga team (or john or any of y’all) a private message, so i guess i’ll ask here. all of a sudden i can’t leave comments to people on the *welcome wagon* to greet them and wish them happy xangaing. what’s up with that? the feeds aren’t rolling anymore. could you please inform?

  • Holy flippin codfish. This is cool. And I pretty much love this right now.

  • @disentangle - We are thinking about a separate site just for dads.  Everyone is on the same platform, so people can subscribe and leave comments on all the sites.

  • Cool! Here are a couple names I thought of for the singles site (I made sure they’re available)…

    connectvibe

    alivelounge

  • @dan - I don’t know…I just don’t think the guys would be up to joining a daddy blog, but maybe I should have more faith in them.  Has this actually been discussed with dad bloggers, or is it just an idea right now?  Maybe you should do a poll.  I’m only asking out of curiousity, not trying to give anyone a hard time :)

  • @pedrothepoet - Those names are very cool.  Or how about “vibelounge”?  Sexy…

  • @ZSA_MD - We don’t support ad popups at all.  Have you tried installing anti-spyware software?  It sounds like you might have been infected with some spyware…

@be_the_rain - I’ll look into it – thanks!  Btw, my site does receive private messages.  Or better yet, you can email us at our help desk – see the help link at the bottom of most pages!

  • @disentangle - We’ll probably start these blogs on Xanga and if they’re popular… possibly upgrade them to their own site.

  • @john - That makes sense!

  • I hope you have a photography one lined up…  I’m about to underttake  making virtual lessons in photogrpahy  and photoshop..

  • oh how interesting to create various branches to xanga.

i didn’t like it at first but after reading the part where you guys are going to be INVESTING IN XANGA FEATURES that got me excited. so i can’t refuse that offer ;D

but please do keep that promise and add more features that other blog sites already have…………..

  • @Fio92 - Which features would you like to see?

  • I feel like we’re all going to separate ;[

    The links should be like:

    hoodstars.xanga.com/username
    momaroo.xanga.com/username
    revelife.xanga.com/username

    and so on..

What’s going to happen with themes? Are all those other sites going to have individual ones or will they be linked/connected from/to xanga??

  • @OwenHiggins - The photography one will definitely be my pick!! ;]

  • good idea. My friend told me about revelife last night but, i have yet to sign up

  • sounds good, can’t wait to check out all the new sites

  • @dan - I would love to see multiple protected lists, so that we can focus posts at friends, or family, or one group of friends rather than another…

  • So, is it possible for a video game Xanga community to come around in the future?

  • That’s cool. You should really do one for fiction writing. Short stories and poetry. Or maybe two separate ones. A lot of xangans write good stories and/or poetry but it rarely gets recognition here. People tend to be a lot more interested in the “rant” posts and the “diary”/”life story” posts.

  • Hey cool.. I checked and themes link ;] Alright!!

  • I feel like there are going to be a lot of xanga sites.. perhaps making it broad. Like.. Parents (would consists of mothers, fathers, etc), Dance (every style, not only hip hop), Music, Arts (Painting, Drawing, Designing, Photography), Health/Medical, etc…

  • Literature.. Science.. Martial Arts.. Religion.. Architecture.. Professors.. Pets..

    So many ideas!!

  • @TANGENA - Yah there are lots of possibilities!  For now we’re going to focus on areas where we have a lot of users and there’s a lot of advertiser interest.  Over time, we hope to expand into new areas too .

@Majin_Jekku - We’re really excited about a potential video game blog!  It’s not an area where we’re strong now, but we’re definitely considering it for later.

@TANGENA - All the sites on the Xanga platform are powered by themes .  As for the URLs, advertisers really prefer separate domains.  But hopefully with our smooth signin integration, you won’t even notice that you’re on a separate site!

  • @john - Wonderful!! I’m excited ;] I’m hoping for something in the arts and science field. I love taking pictures and dancing, and also anything science-related.

  • NICE!  I hate the hopping all over the place for groups and whatnot.
    I’m xangarophobic.

    FOFLMAO!

  • Hmmm..will have to check it out.  I did see someone from revelife the other day, and did not know what it was.

  • great thinking outside the box! this might be exactly what xanga needs to draw ppl back to it… tho i’m sure that wasn’t your main objective!

  • @dan - oh well i already sent my suggestions to i think john… but i’ll write it here as well

    here are my suggestions:
    1) quotes! i’ve find that the quotes around the comments with minis are awesome. so why not add it to the editor as well?
    2) i know you guys offer xanga snippets when you edit the theme under the weblog section but why not add the snippets where we get to customize what we want it under the “snippet” so people have to click on the entry (it benefits the user b/c the content is actually being read instead of being skimmed through in the main page or weblog page and more comments would come in for that particular entry). iono… maybe i’m getting influenced from all the livejournal blogs i read.
    3) mood setters! if the “currently watching/listening/playing” thing is up, why not show our moods? and allow us to customize it with our own mood sets? lol.
    4) this is rather a minor detail but lately when there is a title for the entry and the currently thing is up as well, the currently thing goes above the title (before, it used to go right beneath the title). can you guys switch it back?
    5) new smiley sets? >< or at least make the current ones smaller? iono…
    6) a table setter! and a scrollbar box setter! that would be so cool :D right now i’m just using all the HTML code i know to get those to work and it’s really bothersome… bleh.
    7) an “official” entry at the top of all the other entries so when visitors come in they could read maybe what the user intends their blog to be (instead of putting it as a custom module). and like maybe this entry should be in the “future” so that way it is ALWAYS at the top. maybe we can choose our own “future” date for that one entry?

    others:
i think it would be a good idea if the weblog archives is a different module from the calendar. also, in order to make the calendar more active i think you guys should BOLD the dates that an entry was written on so it’ll be more clearer to the viewer exactly which entry they want to read from the past (that is if they use the calendar as their source of reading old entries).

i think you guys should cascade all the “replied” comments to the original comment. that way, it’s more organized and easier to find :)

  • momaroo?  o_O ok.  made me laugh.  not sure why.  but it did.

nothing wrong with changing things up and offering options.
but considering i’ve been such a blogging hound lately [NOT] i’ll just stick around here if it’s okay with you.

  • Huh.  Well, that explains the recommend I saw a friend make of a post on revelife.

  • @indigolady - That sounds like a great idea.

  • @disentangle - tis taken already. It’s hard finding a name these days! In fact pedrothepoet was the only name left for me to choose from so I got stuck with it   ;)

  • I don’t really like this idea. Seems like the other site can hide something to get a cookie or advertisement on your computer. You know like “you are posting, would you like to download the google toolbar too?” kind of thing. It’ll make me stay away.

  • I was thinking that alivelounge would be too long of a name for a site but then I realized it has as many letters as livejournal or thefacebook. Just a thought.. :)

  • I’m no expert, but why not make these sites like sub-domains to which people who are already Xanga members can transfer? That way, if you self-identify with one of these groups, it makes it easier for other people to find you, not just advertisers. And what happens if you’ve paid for a lifetime membership, but find yourself wishing to be part of this “Brave New World” of blogs?

I think the problem lies in having multiple interests though. Like if you made a group for writers and a group for Pagans, I might have a problem choosing. On the other hand, it’s not at all likely that you would consider making new sites for non-Christians of any kind. I mean, you pretty much state your bias by having one of your first new sites for Christians.

No… I like Xanga just the way it is, with everyone incorporated into the whole and forced to “get along” with one another like any real world community. Separating people by interest may allow others to find them based on that one interest more easily, but we are all mutli-faceted beings. No one is just a hip-hop fan, a Christian, a mom… We have many interests. And in Xanga, we can express them as the mood strikes. These other avenues seem much too narrow to me, restrictive. I don’t understand the appeal. It seems as if by narrowing people’s focus to specific interests, it would become necessary to have multiple blogs to express all the nitty gritty of who you are.

  • I am pretty confused at how it works out :O

  • will xanga ever be open and extensible like blogger or wordpress or type pad? i’d love to add seesmic video comments and be able to blog using an external editor that writes directly to xanga (xmlrpc)

    thanks

  • It sounds like a good idea but one question that would pop up into my mind is for say a mom was signed up at momaroo.com and a user tried to search for that person at xanga.com will you be able to find that user?

Glad to hear more advertisers are going to use Xanga, as I know that the advertisements help Xanga grow to its full potential.

  • wow what an interesting proposition! had no idea this was going on behind the scenes

  • I would call a relationship site something like “duo” or maybe “thechat” but that’s why I don’t do marketing

  • so  -how can i stay signed in to both my xanga and my revelife site simultaneously – so i can jump from one to another w/o having to sign in/out?

  • I think this is a good idea.  Particularly the mommy-blogs site.  Though, I’m not a mommy-blogger myself.

  • Hi visit my website some time :D !

  • Thank you Xanga for always keeping up with the needs of the blogging community! I believe that will be a helpful resource for the SEO groups too. I will tell my friend who owns one about your plans so they can utilize the other Xanga communities for their developments too. Afterall, improvement is not a one-way process! Keep it up!

  • thanks for the info.

  • How big does a demographic need to be before it can get its own site (here on Xanga)?

  • More money and resources to invest in Xanga – that’s fine by me.

  • i made a revelife account using the same name as my xanga account…that’s not going to screw it up is it? i would have for five plus years of xanga entries to get lost…

  • I’m so excited about the relationship site!  My entire xanga is dedicated to my (long-distance) relationship, and I’m excited to meet other people like me through this new venue.  It can sometimes be tough to connect with people through blogrings and such (mainly because you have to sort through so many to find the really good ones).

I tried thinking of names, but I’m not creative, so no promises on them being good!  And I’m not computer-savvy, so I have no idea if they’re already taken or not but:

love4u, anotherlevel, lovedance, crazylovin, date/relate/love, meetingofhearts, meetmyheart, heartline, makeitwork

and that’s all I have for now!

  • For your dating site — up4dates.com

  • how could we subscribe thoses users of the specific group to our xanga accounts?

  • @Karu_Black - Just to clarify… we’re talking about another Xanga owned and operated site.  We have no plans to have signin integration with outside sites that might do dodgy things with our cookie!!

@harmony0stars - Our bias is where our users and where the advertisers are!  I personally am not Christian, but there are a ton of Christian users… as well as advertisers who’d like to reach them.  If the same is true for Pagan users, we are definitely interested .

One more thing – the idea here definitely isn’t to separate our users!  Because all the sites can talk to each other, the idea is to bring users together… if I want to comment on a Momaroo.com site from my Xanga.com account, I can do that seamlessly.  That’s the vision at least… we will proceed very very carefully!

    @TheTytanic - That’s a great question.  I don’t think so?  Well be hashing that out soon…

@pamilvr - We’ve optimized the experience for now for people who have accounts on just one of the sites (it sure is hard to maintain two sites!).  We’ll definitely revisit over the next week or two as we get more feedback.

@JChardonnet - We are starting off with our biggest audiences and topics, and seeing how that goes.  If it goes well, we’ll add more – both audiences/topics where we are strong, and ones where we see a lot of potential!  If you have any ideas for categories, we’d love to hear ‘em .

@Jami86e - Nope, it’s not gonna screw it up.  Lots of us here at Xanga HQ have the same username on both sites!

  • I’d like to see you do a group blog. Xanga users can stay logged in but they can contribute to a community blog. One person sets it up, sets who can contribute and those that have permission can come to the community blog and make posts..

    Does that make sence?

  • @john - Ah, okay thanks John. The main question I ask this as because if it wasn’t possible it may turn people off it get the confused why there are so many sites that resemble Xanga and yet it makes it so hard to figure out where a certain user is located.

  • @TheTytanic - Great point… we’ll definitely be on the lookout for that one.  Thanks!

  • Excellent work! Now we can all look forward to more sites with that distinctive Xanga logo.

  • Fantastic work, Xanga staff!  Keep it up!!!

  • @pedrothepoet - AH!  Too bad…I like pedrothepoet. It conveys a lot with so little words.

  • @cheer4kelly - Appreciate it. Once again, Xanga rocks over any other social-networking and blogging site because they listen to their users.

  • This is a great idea.

    ….

And a teacher one would be fantastic.

  • xanga roleplay rocks!

  • @john - The thing is, there is a bias just in the Xanga blogrings alone. You have individual listings for Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, and Judaism. It’s very nice that you include Buddhism among them as worthy of a separate heading, but everything else gets lumped into “other” or “Spirituality.” How would you even know if you had the number of Pagan Xangans to support a separate, but equal, sub-xanga? Paganism is the fastest growing religion in the world today. If you want to measure the number of Pagan Xangans, at the very least you should change the way your blogrings are set up.Your best bet would be to design a questionnaire just asking your bloggers what their affiliations are and if they’d be interested in new Xanga sites. I am friends with Christian Xangans as well as Pagan, but the number of both in my subscriptions is pretty equal.

I’m blogging about this issue BTW, if you’d care to stop by for a read and a look at my figures and references. I’m not upset about this, but I think the disparity of representation in the blogrings is an issue that is long overdue for address. Let alone this potential new division of blogs in Xanga.

  • @harmony0stars - Ah interesting feedback. Those blogrings categories were similar to the old Yahoo directory structure.  I can definitely see how some of their category structures might be out of date or considered biased.

If we could do it again, we would probably make blogrings/groups taggable… that way users could define their own categories.  We will hopefully migrate to that model over the next year or so, which will hopefully address issues of timeliness and bias.

Thanks for your feedback!  I also saw your post on your own site on the subject – interesting stuff .

  • Lol, make a site for exhibitionists, get all those who like to put pics of themselves in the buff  together.

  • I hope it all works out for you. I’m a mom… I’ll have to look into this momaroo thing…

  • it’s great that the other sites recognize our xanga ID.

  • Aww this is a wonderful idea.  ^_^  I do have a question about Revelife, though; has this concept been applied to that site or was I just confused on that?  I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the latter because of my computer = broken, so I’m just wondering.

I just can’t believe all the awesome work you guys have been implementing lately.  Keep up the good work and keep ‘em coming!

  • @harmony0stars - I’m totally with you on this one!  I myself am Wiccan, and I think it would be totally awesome to have a sub-Xanga site like the mum-site idea, but for Pagans.  :]

Of course, I suppose then everybody would want their own sub-site, and it would get into the issue of when to stop because people are foregoing the main Xanga site all together, but I’m sure a lot of people on Xanga would appreciate http://proudlypagan.xanga.com, am I right?  XD

  • you guys are very clever

  • Sounds like a great Idea. Interacting with other bloggers should be fun :D .

  • I under stand the finances and target groups. Just how far do you intend to go. I am opposed to the possibllities. Are you next going to target groups of different educational back grounds, and then by the college they attended, whether that school was gay friendly, by their majors. This could prove  disasterous. There are no all white schools because that would be prejudice, but there are all black which of course is not prejudice for some reason. In my estimation you are going to discourage users with too much personal info.

  • great stuff =P

  • Names for the relationship site…. betterorworse.com?

OK… so I have a request/idea. Friends Lock is awesome… it helps us choose exactly who gets to see us… but.. when we wish to participate in any sort of challenge, like a Kween’s Challenge or Featured Grownups… we have to take Friends Lock completely down, so that the other challenge people can read our entry, which leaves the whole of our site unprotected….

Couldn’t you guys (and gals) make another button, in the editor, down by “private, protected, public” that is something like, “Friends Lock off for this entry only”…???? that way that ONE entry would be open, but everything else would stay  hidden? I think its a great idea and would really save us some time.

I personally have to go in there and take Friends Lock down, then wait a couple days (while praying no one I hate finds me there) and then remember to put Friends Lock back up.

    Just an idea.

  • Wouldn’t it be similar to the existing Xanga Blogrings?

To my understanding, those sites are just like the Xanga Blogrings with nicer interface/outlook!

Good work though.  I wish that the profit you made could enable you to continue to develope the original Xanga site!

  • on my webcam i cabt get on my chat room

  • Umm…I need some help…I just made another xanga and it isn’t working, so a made yet another.  But for some reason I can’t delete the old one…it’s VWxStorytime if that’s any help.  Could you delete it for me?  I’d really appreciate it.

    Arigato! ^^

  • i am so going to try to find time to check out the Christian and the Mom sites! got any plans to launch a site for creative writing? i’d be all over that one, as well! =) thanks guys and gals!

    WE LOVE YOU, TOO!!!!!!!

  • Can you take time out from these money making schemes long enough to help me fix a simple problem on my site made not so simple by how you have designed things thus far?

  • um them momaroo people tried to add me and I have NO interest in joining them. The teen moms already have blogrings and interact there. I guess it’s a good idea if you are into that type of thing

  • This isn’t a sign of a slow decline of Xanga, is it?

  • Great information, thank you very much!!

  • Sounds interesting…but we need a classic rock blog community! >:)

  • is there a site for single seniors looking for serious relationships s.o.s.

  • is there a site for single seniors looking for serious relationships s.o.s.

  • I think this is a great idea and I’m sure it will positively impact Xanga as a whole.

  • (sorry if this has been asked) But will you be adding others? I don’t belong to any of the new sites youre adding. Might I sugest Jrock? Or Japan? Or Asia for that matter.

  • A Hispanic Group Community. I really wish you guys can create it.

  • omg.. i didn’t know xanga is expanding that quickly… a hip hop site?? coool!!

  • That’s an interesting idea!

  • SOMEONE HACKED MY SITE! my username was Crankk_lyts. I have several sub-pages, and they were all hacked! someone shut down all the main sub-pages, and deleted all the stuff that I had made from the lesser sub-pages. is there any possible way for me to get them back?

    my email is Gabrielle.Hinson@yahoo.com

please, please please email me if there’s something you can do.

  • i have two questions:

will xanga ever use getsatisfaction to track support issues?  it”s very frustrating trying to get help. there’s no obivious place to get help and it seems there is no place to see if the same problem has a resolution.

the other thing i want to ask is: will xanga ever support xmlrpc?  i’m very close to moving to a more robust blogging platform like wordpress simply because it’s more flexible and extensible. i want to be able to post to my blog from external editors and to have more control over my site.  i’ve been blogging here since 2000 and i’m not the happiest camper with the projects that xanga has chosen like xanga powered sites.  how about stuff that makes serious bloggers more likely to use xanga?

in other words xanga is quickly turning into the AOL of blogging systems.  we start here but once we get the hang of it we move on….i’d really like to help stop that migration.

  • I’m totally going to set up a Hoodstars account.

  • howdy!  I want do give xanga credits as a gift to my wife.  How might I do that?

    Cowboy

  • Sounds dandy, but I have no intentions of leaving Xanga for a group-specific Xanga clone.

  • And while I’m thinking about it, make an Asian one!

Or some way so that us non-Asian-reading children of the world can skip over them while browsing blogrings.

  • Where are the footprints is that something you no longer have?

  • television/media blog ?

  • Thank you for the welcome that you gave me. i am happy to be part of xanga family

  • Dear Xanga

I’ve probably got about a hundred things that i’ve never posted (PRIVATE not PUBLIC) items and I’d like to be able to look through them without clicking through years of content on Xanga dash.

Can you, perhaps, address this issue? Maybe allow the Xanga Dash to show only published or unpublished items?

  • How about a rock site? Something like http://www.buzznet.com would be cool.

  • This sounds good. I won’t be joining any of them though.

I have one problem, however. Revelife in particular is monopolizing the Featured Post section. Perhaps a more well-rounded feature section would serve xanga better.

    Just my opinion.

And no, this is not some ploy to see my name on the featured list.

  • Hey Guys!
I think you guys are doing wonderful things with Xanga. I have a bit of a question, is there any way you can stop AIM bots from IMing me after I post a new post? I’ve been contacted by an salmon screen name several times now after posting on Xanga.

  • this is pretty cool. it’s basically giving more opportunities to people.

  • There are going to be exciting times ahead,  be interesting to see whether it all works out.

  • HEY!!  Xanga isn’t just a MOM’s site!

  • @john - I would LOVE to see blog website using the xanga platform for an art or craft community, especially since DIY & handmade stuff is so huge now!

One of the most useful things about xanga is the mobility of Themes and how slick and clean and flexible it is for showing my work. You’d probably have to amp up the photo manager a bit, though.

  • now xanga themes could not support “mybloglog”…i used to have it in my blog and now it couldnt put in anymore!!!

  • I’m somewhat confused by these new things.  I am subscribed to xanga.com/momaroo…is that not the same as what’s going to happen at momaroo.com?  It’ll be a separate entity?  ‘Cause when I tried to ‘join’ revelife.com it wanted me to set up a whole new xanga-type account.  I don’t want to have to blog on more than one xanga, I want my main xanga, but I’d like to be able to interact and be subscribed to those other things as well.  I like what’s happening at xanga.com/momaroo…where multiple folks are bloggin on all kinds of subjects, and it’s easy to keep track of when reading my subscriptions.  Am I not on the right wavelength with you guys on this or what?  Hehe.

  • @yourheadispunk - No need to create a new account!  You can subscribe and comment to Momaroo from your Xanga site .  In fact, because you were subbed to xanga.com/momaroo… you’re already subbed to the Momaroo.com blog (it’s the exact same blog, just at a new location).

  • this sounds great!  how about one geared at educational issues (teachers, homeschoolers, learning challenges, etc.)  or  one soley for the purpose of sharing creative writing.   i know there are already a lot of blogrings out there for both of these, but it was an idea.

  • this is awesome!! i LOVE the idea of the expansions i`m all for the relationship site too!

  • XANGA ROCKS!

  • haha im sending my mom to momaroo camp!

  • I think you need and ArtsXanga!!!  Architecture, visual arts, crafts, drawing, fashion, filming, music, painting, photography, poetry! all the art’s you can think of!!! =) just and idea.

  • Out of curiosity, is there a list of all the Xanga-powered sites other than this blog entry? If not, is it possible to put one somewhere?

  • XANGA,i love uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu;DDDDDDDd

  • Where’s the WeddingBee love? That site is huge and xanga powered :)

  • I love the new sites.

I enjoy the different aspects of the 3 I currently view/use

    Momaroo, Xanga and Revelife

    Great work guys

    x

  • Can I transfer my whole site over to hoodstars. or another xanga powered site instead of xanga.com?

  • I’m wondering if there’s any way to connect my Xanga account to my Revelife account. I have the same username on both sites, it would be nice if it was all integrated seamlessly (or even not so seamlessly, I suppose, if it meant I wouldn’t have to switch between sites). I like that I have the separate space on Revelife to post about my “Christian life”, so I don’t have it all mixed in with my regular Xanga, but it would be nice if it was more integrated together. Are there any plans to do anything like that in the future? Thanks!

  • traveling and foodie sites, please!

  • I’m a teacher here on Xanga, and before that I was just a blogger. I converted my personal blog to a teacher blog because of the awesome communities/blogrings. So correct me if I’m wrong but what you’re saying is that these are just group blogs? I don’t understand this concept. When we post to post Xangas are we posting to Xanga or to the group blog…

Let me elaborate a bit…is this like posting to an LiveJournal community? [yes, hiss, meowr, scratch at LJ - I use it too]
Are there moderators within the blog? Or maintainers?

What’s going to happen to the blog rings? Are they going to disappear? That’s what it sounds like is happening. I’m sort of not happy with this change because blog rings are like interests I think, but a group blog is so definite. You belong into it or you don’t. And I don’t know about other users but I don’t dig labels. Will we be able to view these other group blogs if we’re not part of them?

Why is it that everytime I’m away from Xanga for a short amount of time something drastically changes?

~doritoritta who is a bit miffed

  • I think it’d be wonderful to launch a site for those who love to cook/bake and such; it’d be a great way for people to post/exchange recipes and comment on yummy creations made in the kitchen. :) But then again, I suppose a blogring would work just as well, heh. ;)

  • yes will there be a site for 50 plus seniors dating .i`ve asked this question before, but to no avail come on tell me the truth am i toooooooooo old for this site should i move on?????haven`t had but one email, and tha was about a young lady who was on some kinda mystical trip that i warned about being at risk of being taken advantage of. no love connection or party invite WHOA IS ME..>>>>>>

  • Just letting you  know that I absolutely DETEST the “new” home page style, and I have given it use for several weeks. My opinion of it has actually gone down rather than up in that time.

I prefer to do my own HTML editing, I like my old site design and none of the themes are worth really changing to, not when what I have works so well.

But I digress. If one day I can no longer go back to the “old” home page and have access there, I  will be most disappointed, as will MANY other current Xanga users.

  • I think this was a great idea!!!

  • Same with me, i really thanks for this and i already subscribe to this. thanks alot.
