Cut Tags
One of the big feature requests we’ve gotten have been for “cut tags”: an easy way to hide part of your entry behind a link.Say that you write a long post… or that you’d like to hide part of your posts from people reading in on the Subs page. Just click on the “More” button in the editor – it’s the button on the right, with a dotted red line cutting through some text.
Then when users come across your post on your blog (or on their subs page), they will see a link that says “more here”. When they click on that link, they’ll end up on your post.
To show you how it works, we’ve hidden an important video howto below this cut tag (if you don’t see a More Here… link below, you can click here to see it).
Just kidding! This feature is pretty
straightforward – just click that “more’ link if you’d like to use

LOL, almost got me too. Thankfully, I recognized that poster frame from the video!
This is a good feature. Can it be made to jump to an anchor in the post that is at the top of the cut portion? So you don’t have to scroll down to wherever the cut is, or scan a long post to see where the non-cut portion left off?
Finally! I really like this feature on other blogging sites, but now it’s on my FAVORITE blogging site.
Oh, and how will this work with RSS feeds? I have a lot of readers via Bloglines, etc. Will they, I hope, be required to visit my site to see ‘more’?

awesome feature, I’ve been using xanga for…about 3 years now, and I also have a LiveJournal that I neglect like crazy because I use my xanga so often, but I’ve always felt like the one thing LJ had over xanga was the cut tags – THANK YOU!!

@babiegrl8069 - Sure, just delete the text that says “cut tag”… if you don’t see it in your editor, try “edit html” mode.

Hey guys I tried out the Rich Text Default for the weblog edittor – whatever happened to the Word Count and Character count menus? I was just wondering if you guys could include them in the rich text default edittor as well because I think it would be very useful – at least I like it anyways because then I don’t have to use MS Word count how many words I am writing (typing) up lol…

Woah, that was the easiest cut tag I have ever had to deal with. Great Job!
This is probably the most annoying feature that has ever been added to Xanga. While I do think it’s great to be able to use it on the public sides of blogs so the page is shorter and cleaner, trying to read now in the online subs page has become an exercise in annoyance.
The point of the online sub page, and what made it REALLY great, was that we who were on dial up could read, without having to load EACH site at every post. We could read our whole list, not spend hours going to each individual site, waiting, waiting for it to load, before we could read what the post was, and discovering that it was not commentable, or something we might not have had a comment to make upon.
Not every site uses this. Thankfully. What a mess.
Xanga! have you thought about creating an application for Apple’s
iPhone that would allow users to post a Xanga blog on the go while
being able to post pictures right from your iPhone? I thought it would
be a great idea that all members would love because it is very hard to
try and add a post on Xanga without a computer. Thank you!

Is there a way to turn this off on my subs list? I would actually like to see the entire blog on my subs page. Sometimes I read it and then come back later to comment. But now….I feel obligated to comment right away because I went to the page. Phooey! The pressure!

but anyway: is there a way to see past featured weblogs? All the links that say things like “more” or “featured” take you to a page where things are ordered by the stars and recommends they got and such…but what I want to see is the entries that made it onto the xanga frontpage…cause once 5 entries make it up there after it, I’ve missed it…but I want to be able to see what I missed while I’ve been on vacation and such…

I’m having issues with the “invite a friend” feature. How do I send an invite to a friend that doesn’t have xanga that isn’t already in any of my address books? can’t i just send an invite by typing in some one’s email addy?

job. But once in a while, I’d like to keep my identity anonymous BUT
be able to post something I’d like LOTS of people to read. (Like I

I’d love 100s of comments as feedback to start a discussion.) Is there
any way to work that out without creating an anonymous Xanga? –

Here is something I would like to see happen at Xanga:
I would like to see less of the Truth Campaign.
I feel as though The Sunny Side of Truth is being crammed down my throat every time I see the Front Page and the FQ is being sponsored by Truth.
I think it would be great if there was a limit on how long a Truth FQ can stay, and also a limit on how often the FQ can be Truth-sponsored.
I realize Xanga is profitting from this, but at this point I feel some limits should be set on the exposure Truth gets on Xanga.com.

i’d also like to request: the ability to screen comments (like hide them from being seen except by the site owner).
i love the cut it keeps my graphics page nice and clean…
i like the suggestion that silentevocation has about the screened comments. there are some sites that have just started *last icon maker standing* contests and it would be awesome if they had that feature so we could post our entries without other people seeing them instead of sending them messages.

Hey X-Team. Got a question for ya…
Can you make a “END CUT TAG”? So say we want to hide just a small portion of the entry and have more continue on. That gives the option to the readers if they want to open up that “extra bit” tucked into the cut-tag feature. Otherwise, anything we want to save for the cut tage has to be put at the end and there might be something we want to tuck into the middle instead.
