Publish Your Blogs to Facebook!
We’ve gotten a lot of requests from Xangans to find ways to help drive traffic to your Xanga sites! So we used the Facebook API to provide an easy way for you to update your Facebook News Feed when you post a blog.
There’s a checkbox in your editor now that lets you update your news feed:
At the same time, we know a lot of you like to keep your Xanga separate from RL, so there’s a complete and utter opt-out here:

Let us know how it works for you and have a great weekend!

awesome!
I don’t have a facebook and I don’t want one, I’m am perfectly happy with my Xanga account!
ahaha it’s my second time being first! lol
Cool!
ah! that’s cool!
cool
That’s cool, but I don’t think I’m gonna use it.
neat
Its great but this blog is sorta private and i really don’t want everyone seeing it.
Oh, dear. I’m personally never going to use this, but props to you guys for implementing it so that people who want to can.
doesn’t work with a future post….it posts it right away on there. I just tried it with a post that I have set to post on monday. Is there a way to make it work with future posts?
facebook is now RL?????? oh boy oh boy. =(
@Kristenmomof3 - ah thanks for that report… this feature actually doesn’t support future posts well – we’ll disable it on future posts for now and look into ways we might be able to support future posts in the – uh – future heh
@black_lie - haha, perhaps not the best use of “RL”… just trying to convey that some people think of their Xanga audience pretty differently than their FB audience
I don’t think I’ll use this feature, but that is awesome!
awesome:)
Awesome!
I’m pretty upset. When I posted a blog here, it automatically went to my Facebook without my permission. I keep them separate and this has me considering cancelling my Xanga account. We shouldn’t have to “opt out,” but instead should have the option of “opting in.”
Now I have to triple check my Facebook to make sure it didn’t show up there. Thanks for nothing.
I don’t have a facebook and I do not want the option to automatically post to Facebook. I am not going to have an Xanga either if you keep making these silly changes.I do not want anything to go to Facebook how do you opt out. Judi
very nice. i like that it’s selectable directly from my post-editor and will probably use it.
oh, and i got my beloved subs list back on my classic private homepage.
thanks, all.
phil
@jassmine - it’s settable on a post-by-post basis, and appears to default to the “do not post” state. so you should be ok.
The opt out is greatly appreciated. I like to be mostly anonymous here.
I somehow missed that it could be set on off. Thanks for giving us that option. I set mine on off. Thanks Complicated Light. Judi
I can’t believe we have to opt out! Feel free to help yourself to my Facebook without my permission! I’m appalled.
I’m so glad there is an out to this option.
I would consider this for some posts, but not all of them because some of my lecturers, old school friends etc are on facebook and I write things on xanga I don’t want anyone to just read, one reason why I have sign-in lock.
How about having the little box automatically unchecked and you have to check it to post to facebook in case you forget.
-Heidi
Going to give it a try ltr.
@black_lie - haha
@complicatedlight - no, it’s set to the “post” state by default.
i agree that it should default to “do not post” instead. the default is wrong =(
Is there a way we can control which of our FB friends can see these posts?
… i guess I’m in the minority, but anything that posts my public (not protected) posts to Facebook is a thumbs-up in my book.
thanks, guys!
@tulipsinspring - It doesn’t auto-post it to your Facebook feed. You have to be logged into Facebook and then you have to explicitly click a button to post it.
@dan - I was logged into Facebook. I had no idea that meant that Xanga would post there! I think it’s shockingly irresponsible for Xanga to put something like this on, with no warning, and make it automatic unless we opt out.
This already existed through Facebook posting RSS feeds… but I guess this lets you dictate which posts when.
@tulipsinspring - Even if you are logged in, you get promoted with another popup asking if you would like to post it to Facebook. There’s no way it will post it to your Facebook without explictly clicking publish on that popup.
@dan - I don’t share your confidence, especially for a feature that has a default of accessing a page I didn’t give it access to. I’m not impressed and resent the intrusion.
That would not be a very good idea. I’ll continue being anonymous thank you.
great feature! i love it, fantastic idea.
I’m QUITING XANGA.
I dont think I be using this feature.
nice option – very nice.
Cool dealio!
cm`
yet still no WYSIWYG for Safari
FB is my happy place. Xanga is my venting place. The two shall never meet.
好覺得好好呀!
@tulipsinspring - You’re really dumb. Before Xanga publishes anything on Facebook, it asks you to log on to Facebook, and after you log on it prompts you again if you want to publish anything on Facebook. If you had something published on on Facebook, then it’s your fault, not Xanga’s.
@manilajones - LOL you are SO persuasive calling me “dumb,” which, of course, is one of those insults that boomerangs right back and thus reflects only on you. Your zealous defense of Xanga in this instance might be more persuasive if you had any idea what you were talking about. That you don’t suggests you should keep your childish name-calling to a minimum.
I WAS logged onto Facebook already Einstein. Because I was unaware that Xanga planned to help itself to my Facebook account, I saw no reason to log off. So, as I have now said three times for your high intelligent-ness, it did not ask me to log onto Facebook because I was there already. I had to repeatedly block Xanga from accessing my Facebook page. That is what happened. I understand that your denial on the issue is so deep and intense that you simply cannot accept the reality of what happened, and that my now repeating for a FOURTH time the actual circumstances will do nothing to stop you from, once again, haughtily calling me names based on a version of events that did not occur.
If Xanga has twits like you advocating for this new plan for them, I am even less impressed than I was before. And I was deeply unimpressed before. Perhaps they intend to tolerate some moron abusing users who raise concerns on their blog about their handling of an issue, but I am not Xanga, and I will not tolerate it. You can slither back to whatever hole spawned you now — nobody asked for your ill-informed input Einstein.
@tulipsinspring - Nope. You’re pretty dumb. Xanga has never published anything on my Facebook wall because I know how to follow directions. As dan said, there are a few prompts that you have to go through before it publishes anything on your wall.
You’re pretty dumb. I’ve seen your comments on other blogs as well as my own. Thank goodness your site is on Friends Lock. We dont’ want whatever bullshit you write to be available for the general public to see.
Thanks for giving me a heart attack. Now I have to worry about my posts going to FB…That’s just great.
Good idea for the people whose blogs aren’t ‘private’, but the default should never have been set to post there.
@manilajones - Oh goody, the little boy returned to repeat his insult. That this new Facebook plan may have worked for you, little man, has nothing to do with what happened with me.
As to my intelligence, since I’m capable of carrying out a debate based on substance, without stamping my little foot and repeatedly shrieking “you’re dumb,” I’m feeling pretty confident in my vast intellectual superiority to you. But then, I think you must already know that, from your clearly defensive, personal attacks on an issue that (1) had nothing to do with you and (2) was based on a technical Xanga issue.
I did find your tantrum entertaining, so please don’t feel that your efforts were entirely wasted little one.
As for “seeing” my other comments, I can’t return the compliment. I’ve absolutely never noticed you. Perhaps this little tantrum was a cry for attention? May I recommend a hobby to fill your hours?
I’ll bet, if you stamp your little foot and shriek “dumb,” “dumb,” “dumb” loudly and often enough, everybody will be impressed with your subtle and sophisticated intellect. OK, well, maybe not …. LOL!
Thanks so much for your input little man. It means a great deal to me. Really. Giggling walking off ….
To Xanga — I’m curious. If I comment on a blog you post on a technical issue, is it Xanga policy to allow other users to be verbally abusive to me? While I’m perfectly capable of defending myself, I really am quite taken aback that you tolerate such things.
woot! kudos to you all
is my xanga the only broken one??? I don’t see it in my “extras” when posting -_- and how would it know to link it to my FB account??? — I never gave xanga my info for fb x_X
~ I can’t do future posts either ever since it came out lol
am i missing something???
@tulipsinspring - Do you really think you are “intellectually superior” to me? You know nothing about me. I don’t know how one would measure “intellectual superiority,” but I’d be more than willing to compare whatever credentials you would like.
I’m entertained that you went absolutely apeshit because I called you “dumb.”
so i’m loving the idea of tihs function, but for some reason it’s not showing up for me – i don’t see a checkbox in the editor, and nothing’s transferring. what do we have to do to link the two?
@AMYxJADE - Ah you might be using an older version of the editor. Try changing the Edit Mode to “Rich Text – default” in the settings page?
@manilajones - LOL OK sad little man. Now when you stamp your foot for your tantrum, lead with the right one, NOT the left, because that is apparently most effective. And do be sure to clench your fists too. My two-year-old niece does it, and it’s quite effective, so do use her for a role model.
“Apeshit?” I’m actually responding to somebody whose debate tactics involve calling opponents “dumb” and who uses the word “apeshit.” LOL!!!!!!! Shame on me for wasting my time on such drivel.
It’s clear that you are pursuing some odd personal vendetta little man, and do rant away. Since you need the last word, you go for it!!!! I’ve had my chuckle, so now you puff out your little chest and deliver that last zinger. If Xanga puts up with your nonsense, that’s their issue, not mine. Far be it from me to stop you from making a complete idiot of yourself. Thanks again for the laugh!
@sean - Gonna be working on it soon! Too many things to do, too little time
@tulipsinspring - You keep saying that my “debate” tactics are childish. What are we debating here? There’s no issue to debate! I didn’t comment here to “debate” the morality of the Xanga app on Facebook. I merely wanted to point out that you’re complaining about a problem that doesn’t exist.
Trust me. You really don’t want to get into a “debate” with me on “intellectual” issues. If anything, you seem like a poor “debater” because you seem like the type to let your emotions get the best of you.
@manilajones - LOL and he goes for the last word!!! I knew it LOL!!!!!!
noooo wtf? is wrong with you haha some sites are private!!!!
brilliant idea, but not one i’ll use!
My opt our option won’t stay changed…I hate the idea of posting to facebook and when i changed my settings, the box was still checked!
You DO know that fbook can just buy like 5,000,000 people to come here and lie and say they want this to happen…. right? lol, I know some of you went to state school but realize 10,000,000 frenchmen can be bought.
@janet - oh WOW THANKS!! IT WORKED!!!!!
:D:D seriously for the longest time i was like wat r ppl talkin about future postings?? and then now FB posting?? lol ~ thought i was losing my mind for a bit lolol THANKS AGAIN! XOXOXOXO!
i’ve tried but i dint see any changes in my facebook
Somethings are meant to be kept private. I wish that you had put up
some sort of notification about this new feature before automatically
implementing it. As some other people on here have expressed, I’d
never wish for my Facebook account to be linked to my Xanga account or
vice versa because this is a private place for me, not for the entire
world. This should have been something for users to opt into rather
than something we have to opt out of.
Great feature! I like that it’s post-by-post so we can control what we publish to FB.
You guys come up with great stuff!
@IfonEarth - I’m never going to use it, either. My Xanga is sacred. I would never want people I know actually knowing about the things I write about. EVER.
@AnonymousBlonde - EXACTLY. When I saw it checked by default, I nearly had a heart attack! I thought maybe I hadn’t noticed it on my other entries and that it had been posted to my Facebook. My Xanga is VERY personal to me. I would never in a million years want even the title of one of my blogs posted to my Facebook. EVER. And yes, it should have been something for us to opt into, not out of. I totally agree!
@MidnightExotica - Same thing happened to me. I tripled checked my Facebook just to be sure that nothing had transferred without my knowledge.
Too bad I just deactivated my account x]
Are you ever going to bring back the option to “buy” Lifetime with credits? I wanted to know if I should keep saving my credits in case the option should ever become available again or if I should use them up.
Did people not realize that they can have all there xanga posts listed on facebook as notes? I have been doing that for a long time, just have to set up the link on facebook.
DEAR GOD NO.
thanks for the opt out method.
so does this mean that the link will go to the actual xanga post?
I’d actually rather have the ability to post selected xanga entries as notes. the feed option on fb doesn’t allow for that – when you turn it on, all your previous entries are posted.
Facebook is evil, burn it, keep Xanga pure
I don’t have a facebook, but I’m sure the people who do will find this feature useful, as well as convenient.
o
good
cool!~
eh, will go opt out of it now. i don’t do facebook.
I dunno if I personally am comfortable using this feature yet, but it’s a great way to get traffic to one’s xanga! great idea =)
it’s a sweet feature to have available, but i don’t think it’s necessary for the screen to pop up every time we post. perhaps it could be an extra often on the blog editor. im afraid of my posts getting accidently linked :[
I am too relieved there is an opt out option. I was set into waves of terror before i checked it all out.
So is opting out just setting my boxes to always be unchecked unless chosen otherwise by me?
ahhhh!!!! if this accidentally has already published anything to facebook or ever malfunctions and anyone from my personal life finds my site, i’m totally screwed. is there any way, other than unchecking the box, to make sure this doesn’t happen?
how do you get it off?
I do not like it
I DID NOT SIGN UP FOR FACEBOOK! I have been intentionally staying AWAY from Facebook. Can’t I use Xanga without being transferred to other websites against my will????
Although this is really cool — I was wondering have you guys thought about linking pulses to our fb status &/or vice versa???
I have my twitter and fb linked up but it would be so kick ass if it would update all 3 through fb!!!
oh yeah my mobile pulse still isnt working
@janet - Thank you. I was wondering and runnnig through comments to see if anyone else had asked. Amyxjade had. Thank you for offering the suggestion. I finally found the box.
@gunshot_lovely - My settings aren’t staying either… I’m not a member of Facebook, but I still don’t want this option checked by default.

Completely opted out. Don’t have facebook; don’t want facebook; can’t standfacebook. Are you getting the idea that I don’t like facebook. Thanks for theopt out.
HOW COME.!?…
YOU ALL WILL DIE U TOO XANGA TEAM HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA RUB MY FUCKING NUTS BITCHES
Hi
Good morning all my Xangan friends!I am your own Sadaboy from India–to be precise from its southwest corner vermiform appendix State Kerala.(sunny beaches, golden sunshine, coconut frond-thatched cottages, boiled rice with fish curry)
congratulations to my dear all-understanding XangaTeam for connecting me to Facebook!I have many a suggestion for improving this mundane life in a hot of different ways.and Facebook commands a wider reading too ,so I hope to have a million more freinds that way!!
love you all!(Kisses)Do visit my blogsite also (http://www.xanga.com/sadaboy)Thank you!!!
dr sada/sadaboy(TESOL Expert)
Thanks for the new feature, I may just give it a try.
Thanks!
Now, I don’t have to copy and paste.
All I have to do is check the box!
Great!
First, I would like to thank the team for implementing this feature. My blog isn’t a personal one and I am always looking to drive traffic to my Xanga blog. This is an awesome idea and I am looking forward to participating.
For people freaking out about the option to link your FB account, remember, it’s an option. Relax, you don’t have to use the feature if you don’t want to.
NO FACEBOOK! I DO WANT WANT YOUR FREACKIN FACEBOOK. STAY OUTTA MY FACE WITH YOUR NO GOOD FACEBOOK SITE. STOP TRYING TO CONNECT ME. AND DO IT NOW. NO FACEBOOK.
hi
oh thank you :>
STOP SENDING ME TO YOUR UGLY FACEBOOK! I DO DO WANT TO GO TO FACEBOOK. SO STOP SENDING THERE!
That’s neat. Since Facebook has better security/blocking (they have to “OK” new subscribers and when they block they can’t see the blocked and the blocked can’t see the blocker anywhere on facebook)…..I’d like to be able to make my protected posts on Xanga available to my Facebook readers.
Wouldn’t that be good?
Seriously, I think this just killed xanga for me. I’ve been devotedly using Xanga for years, and I think you finally created something bad enough to drive me away. YOU AUTOMATICALLY CHANGED MY DEFAULT TO LINK MY XANGA POSTS TO MY FACEBOOK? Seriously?? I didn’t even notice until I posted an entry. I shouldn’t have had to ‘opt out’ beforehand. I am always logged onto facebook, because I have wireless internet and I check the “remember me” option (though now I’m definitely turning it off), and it was really irresponsible of Xanga to change my default like that without my consent. Doesn’t anyone else feel like it’s an invasion of privacy that Xanga can connect to your facebook at all just because you’re logged into both sites at the same time?
I guess I’m just a member of the small minority that doesn’t like every aspect of my life stalked through facebook or otherwise. So yeah, thanks for nothing. I’m done.
k
I would be THRILLED to no end if you would take this feature OFF Xanga. It’s annoying!
i like it, but will be selective about what i post on facebook.
Wow! This an interesting site! I love it already!
Nice opportunuity.I have a facebook and a lot of friends there.I am a member of the Open Mind Forum and I joined the grop of open Mind Forum on Facebook…exciting and great!
Also ,the visitors on our website are in augmentation : http://defendersearth.onlc.fr
I am so glad for your help, Xanga and xangan.
love you all! ^^
The opt out is working fine. I wish you would of made it opt in though. Thank you for allowing a opt out sorry I did not read it the first time around. Judi
How do I connect it to my Facebook account?
Oh, and my weblog editor doesn’t have that under extras :[]
option out! =]
I think this dialogue box is too small to notice.
Because I’ve used up a lot of time finding this setting , but just a single-lined words with a ticking box.
A la annoying.
Keep up the good work guys!
OK, I’m sold… and using it.
However, posts sent via email do not activate the Facebook link. I have to edit the post through Xanga.com for the link to show up in Facebook.
Please fix. Thank you.
I worried that it was something I couldn’t change and am really happy that it is. I write for me and my pals here and have a separate entity there…anyway, thank you so much for making the Post to Facebook thing a checkbox. I was getting sort of murderous about having to deny crossposting.
You know I really like this feature, and I’ve been sharing my posts on facebook for a while, but is it possible to get a no thumbnail option?
i have a facebook, it’s separate from my xanga for a reason….now i have to clicj an annoying box everytime i i make a private post.
It’s nice, but I don’t like to mix them together.
This is my work blog — and when i try to post it to our work’s Facebook page, it instead goes right to my PERSONAL account. How can i change this?!
Thanks!
lol i have facebook and its incredibly annoying
This is the coolest option EVER! I love this. Xanga is my blogging site, but facebook is the place I socialize – so now it gives me the ability to link the two. GREAT! Thanks!!
it started off well…. but then now when i try to publish my latest post it says ‘ application response error’…. why is that??
anyone knows why?
i always get the application error know how i fix that?
I have problem in connecting Xanga to my Facebook… showing there ‘response failed’? How should i solve the problem?
Application response error! why?
i haven’t this bag in my xanga?how can i get it?
It should never have happened. Most people on here want to keep their Xanga and Facebook (if they have it) very seperate, i certainly did, luckily i found the “opt out” option… if you ask me there should have been the reverse; an “opt in” option, and i doubt it would have been popular! They are very different sites.
I hope you listen. Thankyou.
I can’t get my xanga entry to show the facebook updating feed I tried countless times to change the setting and nothing ever appears when i make a new entry?
I’d LOVE to try this feature out but it’s not working. I click the check box and then save, a message appears saying “connecting to facebook. please wait.” and nothing ever happens. It’s just stuck. I’ve got a good internet connection. Why isn’t this working? Please assist.
(help?!!?) I don’t have that button in my editor. I’ve checked and unchecked the my settings, but no dice. What step(s) am I missing/skipping here?
I’ve just spent an hour trying to figure out how to get rid of this. What a miserable idea!!! I didn’t sign out of my Facebook because I didn’t know you were going to send my blog there, you almost gave me a heart attack. I hit cancel and don’t see it posted but I really don’t know where you post it. Stay off my other sites, you are out of line making this a default.
please take away this function and don’t let it to be default on every entry. i fire my boss on xanga every night but one mistake with your function i am a dead man, as my boss is on my facebook list.
smart move alot of people have facebooks
It doesn’t automatically post to your facebook page people! You have to click the box “Publish this entry to your Facebook profile” for it to go onto your facebook wall. I love this feature! Thank you Xanga! The opt-out feature is for those that just aren’t interested at all, so instead of complaining, just opt-out. There are plenty of us out here who love this feature.
