Done: Site Down for Hardware Upgrade
All Done:
We’ll be taking down the site on Friday starting at 6:30pm EST for about 15 minutes to finish our hardware upgrades.This is the final downtime related to the big hardware upgrade that we’ve been working on for the past few weeks. We’ll post more details and photos after we get some sleep!

Are the times you use eastern or central? Last night it said it’d be back up by 8:15 EST and at 8:25 Central time, it still wasn’t back up.

I love Xanga photos! I remember the last server move being pretty cool.
Whatever you’ve done, it isn’t fixed. I still get the “server connection error” page that I blogged about a week ago on every-other-page that I try to load. In fact, I got it just now, trying to get to this page from my universal inbox, if that helps you find it in the server logs.

Since the upgrade, I am told that I have no more photo storage. However, my Storage States say 13 percent of 10 GB and 1 per cent of 1 GB. I have a lifetime membership. Help.
PS: I love Xanga.
we finally finished moving our data center after 2 failed attempts, many sleepless nights, grumpy wives and family, angst and sweat. i know it’s not easy and i thank you for your efforts and congratulate you on a sometimes thankless job well done.

Well, it is Sat. the 9th at 5:25pm and when trying to post the last of 8 pictures, it says it won’t upload there are server problems. Really hate this because it is a Mother’s Day post!! what is going on??? this has been going on for over an hour!!
Even my comment didn’t post here about my problem uploading the last of 8 pics for a post. So I just sent an email. Hopefully something will get thru somewhere!

Yes, whatever you did, it ain’t fixed, as a matter of fact, at least for some of us, it’s worse. I also cannot load pictures, and that is what my blog is all about… Many people have been telling me to switch to different service, and these latest problems aren’t helping your case. I will gladly pay you 15,000 xanga credits if you can make these fixes this week, otherwise I’m afraid, in the words of Darth Vader, “You have failed me for the last time”.

I have also been unable to upload pictures for a few days, and finding it very frustrating! Pictures are a major feature of my blog, and being unable to upload really cramps my style! First I got a message that I had reached my limit when I have only uploaded 2% of my limit for this month and 1% of my total limit. I was directed to a page telling me that I would have to pay more to increase my storage. Now I am getting a message that the server is not available. Any idea about when this problem will be resolved??

I have been trying to upload my photos ALL WEEKEND and it keeps saying server down- what’s the problem!?!? Is it going to be fixed at some point!? I paid for premium so I could upload as much as I want and now I haven’t been able to for days!

I can now upload photos one at a time, but only one at a time, and some photos don’t upload at all even after several tries.

I emailed xanga for help yesterday, but am now coming here to contribute or make my voice be heard. I too cannot upload pictures – I thought it might just last throughout yesterday, but still haven’t been able to today – keeps saying the server is down. Is this going to be fixed soon?
@givenaglimpse - This started (for me) last Saturday. I open this new site….was able to upload and post 5 photos…..and now just get the same old message; “Server is currently unavailable. Please try again later.”

@ManicWolf - WOW, it’s been going on for 5 days for you?? Oh no. You opened up one of the new sites, you say? I did too. I also got friend requests and I think a message saying they subscribed to my blog which is totally wierd to me. Wonder if it has something to do with those.
It is not just the picture problem for me. My modules are frozen, I can’t delete anything in them or delete any module, or move them. Most of them are waaaaaaaaaay at the bottom even past the page. This is very frustating and would be nice to know if anybody is trying to work on these problems. Just please let us know!!!

Before the upgrades, previous tags were listed on the entry editor page, and now they are no longer there. I have no way of knowing what tags are already on the entry and have to type them in again, which results in duplication. Is there any way to restore the view of tags already on an entry?
gah! What did you do?! Nothing works! about 90% of the links I’ve tried clicking have given me error codes! I can’t even get my my own page, public OR private! merrr… help!

is anyone else complaining of problems since the last down time? sometimes when i click on a link to another xangan or to blog, all i see is the list of headers- the formating is gone and i have to click on the link again to get to the real site. this is happening with more frequency lately. is it you or is it me?
@jerjonji - Dear Jeri,
I came over here after experiencing same problems this morning. Only seems to be on the themed blogs, so must be something wrong with scripting. A quick refresh seems to correct the problem. All of Xanga seems “slower” since the upgrade, as well, even with a fast connection. Whenever a large website like Xanga performs an upgrade, there will be glitches and ‘bugs’ for a while.
It would be nice for them to post an update outlining the present problems (after they wake up, of course) on this blog. I’m sure one is upcoming.
FYI: I’m planning a “Xanga history” blog entry, showing the progression of Xanga since 2000. I’ve got a couple of pages of “tidbits” I’ve gathered from links supplied by the Internet Archive site. One of these is a message from John in 2000 complaining about server problems when the site really started to take off. I found it pretty prescient.

Dunno where to put this, but here’s a suggestion… actually something that NEEDS to be fixed. There are way too many browsers (google chrome & safari for instance) where you can’t bold in your entry because there isn’t a rich-text editor. Please fix this, it’s B.S. that I can’t bold my entries if I want to, but I can bold comments… STUPID
Since your upgrade, my smilies have quit working and now I can’t access skin editor at all. Is there something that can be done?
i have a question about my xanga account. whenever i click on “public view” why does it show all my private and protected postings? it was never like that before. i don’t know where else to contact the xanga team to notify them of this. so hopefully posting it on here well help.
