Preview: Upcoming App w/ Photo Effects, Faster Uploads, Easier Sharing
Usage of our Xanga Mobile App has been exploding as our smartphone users have really embraced the new app.
We've been busy upgrading the app as quickly as we can, adding loads of new features and bug fixes! The new version will be available within a week or two on both Apple and Android platforms.
In the meantime, we wanted to give you guys a preview of what's coming soon:
Photo Filters and Effects
Now you can edit your photos right in the app:
Faster Upload Options for Big Photos
Photo upload options make it a lot easier to share photos over a slow connection:
First Few Photos from Weblog Entries Now Shown in Feeds
People have been uploading lots of pics, so we wanted to better highlight them in your feed:
We also added a number of other features:
- Faster Browsing - the app now remembers your last place in any feed when you click in and out of it to view individual posts
- Easier Sharing - you'll see a new share button on the bottom of each comment page, letting you email or SMS a link to friends and family
- User Search - a quick way to jump to a specific user who might not be on your subscriptions list
… along with a bunch of other little fixes and enhancements.
We'll write another post to let you know when the new version is available, but keep your eyes peeled for new updates on your phone!

This is really great!!! Great job xanga team!
The only problems I have with the app are 1. I don't get all the blog posts on here. My ui on my computer is updated and on mobile its not. And 2. The text box is wonky.
a chat feature would be good.....

What about option of posting photos that are already on blog? Do we have to delete the pic on photo blog, then upload same pic to have it in written blog? Love the other features!!!
Cool. I definitely like the feature that remembers where you left off.
Less scrolling is good. I would also like something where I can easily get to the bottom of a post to see the comments, rather than having to scroll through a very long blog.

Here's something I just found out:When you comment on Gawker, if someone replies to your comment you can choose to reject it.When can we have that option?

Hey, I was wondering how can I change my profile picture?
I hate to beat a dead horse, but when is the kindle fire app going to become available?
Btw, I tried to make a "> <" face in a post, first via the xanga app, and then the usual webpage, but both times it didn't allow the second bracket, and read it as html or something and hid it. It didn't used to do that, I don't think. It's not really an issue, but I thought I'd let you know. Thanks!
@charlottesmiles - click "view profile" from your public page(www.xanga.com/charlottesmiles) and then you should see an "edit profile pics" link somewhere. From there you can change your pic.

Ever since you updated this app it stopped working on my iPhone 4S. It works on my iPad insofar as I can run the app but I can't log in! It keeps "username" in gray letters when I try to login and I can't click the sign in button. Very disappointed.
@MisplacedMoments - The same thing happened to me. All you need to do is delete the app and re-install it. Dumb, but works.

Not sure where else to put this, but I've found a bug (or at least something highly annoying that I'd like to see fixed) in the iPhone app (not sure if it happens on any other devices, but I can find out if need be). Every time there is a video in a post, it AUTOMATICALLY opens a browser and redirects to youtube, without ever asking me. I don't use headphones with my phone, and sometimes I'm using my phone in situations where audio shouldn't come blaring out of my phone for all the world to hear. And when I get back into the xanga app, I have to be faster than the speed of light to click to the next post, or it opens a browser window AGAIN. Annoying, right? So maybe a little popup asking me if I want to load the video, or something to fix this would be highly beneficial.
