  • New Private Page beta

Hey guys, this is John.  I wanted to ask you to try out a beta of our new private page!

What's so cool about the new private page?  It shows all your Feedback and Subs updates all in one place, so everything is at your fingertips.  It's a big part of our "back to basics" push to make blogging more fun!

There have been a number of other sites using this Feed type of interface recently, and I'd like to address this.  We're going to be careful not to clutter your feeds with crap like sheep and vampires.  We've always had a focus on content here at Xanga, and our feeds are designed to highlight that.  If one of your subs or friends updates, or if you get feedback on one of your posts... that's what we'll be focusing on.

We've found that this page takes a little getting used to.  Could I ask that you guys try it out for a week or so, and see how it feels?  At first even I was skeptical, but after a few days... I couldn't imagine going back.  We are hopeful you feel the same way!

We're still collecting feedback, so please let us know what you think as you try out the new private page!  And if you'd like to go back to the old private page for now, no problem - there's a link on the right side of the page (here it is too).

Let us know what you think!  Please keep in mind that this is an optional beta feature, and you can stay in the existing private system.  We're just collecting feedback right now... thanks!

  • I think it's pretty cool.

  • *plus* where's my background? And my custom header? Please guys, this is awful...I avoided switching to themes because I liked my page just the way it is...

  • Yes, please make this optional. I don't want it.

  • Hey Lady Jasmine... I just want to clarify that this is an optional beta, so hopefully you're able to click right back to the old system.  The link to do that is above, but just in case here it is: http://www.xanga.com/private/home.aspx?set=1

Thanks for your feedback.  We'll be making tweaks to this page as we collect feedback on this post...

  • I really like it.

  • SWEET!

    Suggestion:
-Instead of just the blog titles in the 'universal inbox', include a first paragraph of the blog too. It makes for a better summary or helps us decide if we REALLY want to read it or not :)

-Somehow add a feature that allows the privatization of all previous blogs. I have been using xanga for 4-5 years (since I was like 11 :D ), and I can't imagine editing the hundreds of blogs I have to switch them to 'private'.
I know I'm representing a small demographic (longtime xanga users who, now much wiser, would like to hide old embarrassing entries), but it is a significant and useful addition to xanga.

Thanks guys! <3 xanga forever :)

  • I realise that this is an optional beta at the *moment* but you guys are talking as if this is going to become the ONLY option in the future. It should be optional. period. Some of us will *never* want this.

  • I don't really care for it.  I've never liked the myspace and facebook look, and that's part of it.  I finally just switched over to themes and figured out a way to get my private page to look the same as my public page.  I'd like to keep it that way.
I agree with Lady_Jasmine, please keep it optional!

On another note, I'd love to be able to write posts and choose which groups I'd like to read it....Like being able to choose a certain protected group.  Not sure if that's possible, but that would be cool.

  • It's too wide. When i tried to create a weblog i at first couldn't find what i was suppose to click. I did like the fact that it had the most recent stuff like one of my friends making a new post or commenting on one of my posts in the middle. I thought that was awesome.

  • I prefer to be able to view my own posts, not other subscriptions.  I wish there's a button to click to bring up all private posts to so I do not have to dig dig dig them out to see if I'm ready to finish the post and turn it public.

  • Errrgh errgh, can you please change the subscriptions page back pleeeeease? Or make it optional? Please??

  • I could learn to live with it.
However, I think it's a bad idea to go with the trendy "news feed" look. I use Xanga as an escape for the clutter and insanity of myspace and facebook. If all of my friends were here on Xanga, it would be the only thing I'd use, because it's simple, it's not busy, and it allows you to do a significant amount of customizing without making your site impossible to navigate. I don't think it needs an overhaul like this new page at all. Like I said, I'm not going to leave Xanga if this new page becomes permanent, but from a long-time Xanga die-hard, it needs to be optional. Xanga is perfectly fine the way it is now.

  • Gross.  What is this, Facebook?  I might have to reconsider renewing my Premium this year.

  • Definitely make it optional, like themes.

  • Could the feeds be edited to allow for a background or anything like that?   It's a nice interface to see an overview of what people are doing without having to go over to their sites, but...it does resemble Facebook a bit.  If you could allow for customization that might make it less offensive to some.  Please don't put the bulletins that Myspace puts up though.  Those get annoying.

  • i don't like it..please say it's optional! lol

  • Hey guys.  We are definitely listening to your feedback, so keep it coming!

We can look into the possibility of background or color customization.  We could also
possibly consider some of the module customization that some of you
have mentioned.  I will talk with our team!

Meghann1965, I don't have a MySpace so I'm not sure what you mean about bulletins coming up on your private page.

  • The layout is terribly cluttered.  I prefer the simplicity of the old one, thanks.

Don't try so hard to be Facebook; make Facebook want to be you.

  • i think it's a little bit too crowded. everything is scrambled together like "mc breakfast". i like the idea though, keep me posted!

  • It's absolutely terrible. I clicked on the link to change it out of curiosity and nearly punched my computer monitor out of frustration from not being able to change back right away.

At the very least, please make that optional if you ever do implement it. Xanga's fine just the way it is.

  • Sounds great! I'm all for making things more convenient. :]

  • it's very convenient, especially in terms of updates. but how do we view ALL our blogs like before? i can't see my private/protected blogs. =

  • I LOVE the new subscription page, now I can see photos and other stuff people add to their blogs.

I think the new design is pretty good so far :)

  • How do I change it back? :[

  • i really like it.

  • OK I kinda like it.. the only thing that truly threw me off was where you viewed the private posts... but you can see those on the main page now.

I kind of like it. The only thing is.. perhaps if people don't like the cluttered look, have the sections be collapsible... so then we don't have to see the news feed if we really don't want to.

If you guys are going to have all the public, protected, private  blogs on the same page is there a way to have the different choices show up differently... like have the private blogs show up with an inset look  .. or something like that so you can know at a glance that you've chose private public or protected?

I think it would get a little getting used to... it does look like a mixture of facebook and myspace and xanaga... but they are the features of each site that I enjoy.  Personally I don't think it's extra complicated, it seems to be a little more user friendly even.

  • PS. it is a little white .. perhaps an option to change the background  would help tone the white down a bit.

  • nevermind...haha i didn't know there was a link [:

  • i absolutely hate it. I've had my xanga for 3 years and i like it the way it's always been. please make it an option. i can't stand this 'beta' page.

  • Can you say Facebook?

Really, that is what it reminds me of.  Sometimes I feel like Xanga is
trying to be like the popular site du jour.  I know you guys have to
compete but people who are at Xanga are here because they like Xanga.

  • damn.  lost my comment.

so... first major thing.... i HATE horizontal scrolling!!  so you have to fix that.  everything has to fit on one screen without forcing me to scroll.  end of story.  i'd give up ALL the new conveniences just to ensure that i didn't have to scroll horizontally for anything.

other than that, i don't hate the page... but it's a far cry from loving it too.  i like the dashboard concept... but i think "Universal Inbox" and "Recent Blogs" should swap because personally... i would want to see my own blog first.  the first thing i do when i come to xanga is write a new blog (unless i have a blogger's block) before looking at other blogs.

and i'd like the private page to look a little more like my public page... or at least give me the same background, fonts, colours, and what not.

the link to see all my tags also seems to have disappeared.... i'd totally want that back.

so right now... i think i'll stick with the original page.  but that's my two cents.

  • seems very complicated for me since EVERYTHING is on a page... I so-so like it, I feel like I'm on facebook.

  • Don't like it... please, if you're going to implement this, make it optional!!!

  • I could get use to it I guess.  Will I always be able to have my private page where I can change things on my site? I love  the fact that I can design my own site right now. I like the freedom to do my own thing.

  • Ok, I looked at it, and I hurried to click back.  I have a Facebook site.  It is fun to toss sheep and stuff; but I don't want another one.  I don't blog there, and like blogging here.  I like that many of my friends and family blog in Xanga land, too.  If you have them all change over, they will stop entering posts of news, and that is BAD ...this is how we keep in touch or "in the know"!  I also love being able to set up a background.  I change it with the sports season, and with the holidays just to set a fun tone.  I really don't want to lose this ability.

I promise I won't stay with Xanga if you don't allow me to keep my ability to custom design my site, and if you make all the blogs disappear to the side as if they shouldn't be bothered with.  My family members are going to stop entering their notes, too; if this design occurs.  Most of them don't have Facebook for that reason.  They've avoided MySpace 'cause of the spamming that happens there.  Xanga was the great place, and I have been in love with it.

Change is good, just don't kick out the features that make Xanga distinctive and...well - Xanga!  Like someone else said, don't try to be like Facebook, make them want to be like Xanga!

  • I don't care for it much- it reminds me of multiply. >_>;

I agree with the others in saying that Xanga's fine just the way it is, and to please make it optional if it is indeed implemented.

    Thanks. :)

  • If it's optional, then.. I love it. ^^

Suggestion: Can you make it so that it can be a separate page? (As opposed to having to change settings to view the page.) Thanks!!

It looks a bit cluttered, but the idea is great. thanks.

  • i like things the way they are.  i'm quite satisfied with what i have now.....    I'm still getting used to the adjustments that happened last time something was added.

  • I've only had it on about 5 seconds, but so far I don't like it. I'll
keep it on for a while, though, to give it a chance. I do agree with
Lady _Jasmine, though. When I go to the the weblog page, I really want to be able to see it the way I've set it up, with my layout, background, etc. I really like the way I have it looking, and I want it that way when I'm about to edit or whatever. That's really the most bothersome part. I could probably get used to the rest. Although, as users above have said, it's a bit cluttered. I know your point is to have everything on one page, but it's really hard to sort out visually. But again, maybe that's something I could adjust to and come to appreciate.

Good try, but not quite there.

  • Well done, I am impressed. It will make working in Xanga musch more a complete experience.

  • I love the new layout. Reminds me of Facebook.

  • I definitely like the private page the way it is already.  What is currently beta, if carried over as just optional would obviously not impact me, as I would opt out of this change.  I hope it never becomes that I would HAVE to be like the beta though - I don't like it at all.  It resembles the other sites that I do not prefer over xanga.

  • Keep it optional, PLEASE, please, please keep it optional.

  • the new option is great, it will be better if the column showing the sub in the sub page become wider

I believe the new homepage will serve me the best if it appear as a link on my original private home page
therefore I can check all the interaction with outside with one click
However, I still prefer to go to my old private home first
because I do not get used to the new page without my theme
and without showing my stuff, not enough home like
also the new page cannot show Chinese character in "Recent weblog"

Everything should be fine if I can choose where to go first and switch between them very quickly.

Finally, thank you for your efforts ^^

  • -v-;hihi*i luv xg`

  • Good plan, but can we make certain items not show up, such as photo updates?

  • Honestly, I don't like how it's just starting to look like Facebook/MySpace. A little suggestion though, instead of the UNIVERSAL INBOX showing who added a new entry or who gave me a comment [coz won't i see it all in my private/subs page anyway], why don't you guys just turn that into the actual SUBS box? Show a couple lines of their blogs, just like one of the suggestions I've read above, so we could see if we'd actually wanna read the whole thing or not. I think that would really help.

Honestly, I don't really need to know THAT much about my people I'm subscribed to... and I'm also not that interested in seeing what I've done [i.e. the public feed].

If you guys can consider that, it would be easier for me to adapt to this new homepage... I like it somewhat. If not, let's just go back to the old homepage. I can deal with that, I love it.

  • hellooooo!! well, i like it NOW. just because i added this new layout on my site and it deleted/erased/made all my other links invisible or something and i can't find them and thank goodness this private site is now here. BUT i still can't find the look and feel link. where is it? i might have missed it somewhere there..

i wanna change my layout to something else! waaah!!! help!!!!

that thing first, then i'll think about getting used to/ or blindly clicking through this new beta. ..i agree with the others, it looks cluttered though.... leave me a message or comment back on my site.. i might not be able to go through all the comments here to look for your reply..(goodness knows when)..

thanks!! hope you could help me.

  • lol it is hideous. it really looked too much like facebook. i really hope it stays optional.

  • ok, ok, i found it. but not from the new beta private page...

  • I would prefer my private page to look exactly like my public one, with the private stuff still private.  Wouldn't that be simpler?  It was hard work to get my private page close to the public one.  What I like the least is that the length of the sentences is not the same on public and private, so I have to go back and re-edit when I check it out on the public page.

I do not like the new set-up, and won't use it.  It is too cluttered and messy.  I like deciding what items of others blogs to see — the way it is on the private page now.

  • I don't know...I'm a little skeptical. It's ok, and I won't give up xanga if I have to live with it. But I'm still happy with my original layout from 2003! I've been here a long time, watched the teens come and go. Xanga is a much friendlier place than myspace or facebook...keep it that way, Some of us older folks aren't really computer literate and learning new things takes getting used to.
I don't need the fancy stuff, just somewhere where I am not bombarded by 50 teenagers wanting to be my friend or show me their dirty pics! EWWW!

  • gosh..really looks like facebook... you know there's some reason why i don't open my facebook that often: it's full of junk!!!!

again, it looks cluttered in a kinda organized way..

    >comments and blogs are together. why?! -don't need to arrange them together in a time line ppl..
    >where's the look and feel? am sorry but i still don't know where it is..
    >the pics of friends format so looks like facebook. pls bring the old one back.
    >i don' know what to say about the background and stuffs.. (cuz my layout is bizzare and makes all the private links invisible..) though i would loove to have my private site the same as my public site..
    > making it an option would be the best.. i couldn't make sense of the xanga themes already, even if i could edit it myself.. it's just too confusing.. and now this.. wah.

oh i just remembered, i have friends' lock. >.<
    so just rep here

  • "On another note, I'd love to be able to write posts and choose which groups I'd like to read it...Like being able to choose a certain protected group. Not sure if that's possible, but that would be cool."  -InGodzHndz

    YES PLEASE!!

  • Please... xanga is a blogging application. I don't need it to look like facebook. I appreciate your work, but the most important thing is to see what I write clearly, not seeing what others have done to their blogs.

  • I llike the old home page better. my subscriptions hardly ever update and I'm gonna get sick of seeing the same entries every time I want to come update my own.

plus, I use xanga because it's different than other sites. keep your originality. not all change is for the better.

  • Hello, I'm from Hong Kong.I'm using a mac and safari.I think this affect the result.I preset the encode is unicode, everytime i go to xanga i set it to chin. several months ago, xanga release "skin" function, i hv to change back to unicode to view "skinned site". sometimes.

so i didnt use any skins.
Now I found difficulties using the new private page. Some of my fds' weblog feedback(i dont know wt it called) cannot show chinese. no matter i turned the encode to traditional chinese or unicode.so i'll choose the pld private page.
but i appreciate the new page, makes me know more abt my fds.I seldom go to read my fds' blog actually.

  • what the hell is going on? why can't I find anywhere to send feedback? I want to let the xanga team know that I've been using xanga for years and I miss the simplicity. I'm abandoning my account and finding a blogging site that doesn't have all the ridiculous clutter. pulse? audio? video? I thought xanga was a WEBLOG community! now it no longer focuses on the blogs. I'm done here.

  • Personally I don't like it at all. I have remained loyal to Xanga for a reason and that reason is because it is different than all the 'other' blog places. I would rather see what my page looks like for my protected readers. My entire site is protected and i want to see what others see.

If this so called improvement is something that you are going to have everyone do, I have no idea what I am going to do then. I would like for you to keep it optional. It is just horrible.

  • I like the old way better. If you have to implement this new way, make it optional. The reason I joined Xanga was to escape from the likes of Facebook and Myspace.

  • Aye, for those of us who use Xanga just as a journal and don't subscribe or read other people's stuff, it's a bit annoying to click here and there to find our weblog entries. Here's another vote for keeping this an optional change. Thanks =)

  • I really don't like it. It was really cluttered. My current one is very simple, just like my page and that's what I really prefer. So I hope you guys decide that the homepage layout won't be a mandatory change for all. Please make it optional!

  • ................

  • It's too cluttered for my taste.  I'd prefer it the old way, where you have the entries in the middle and the tools on the side.  I guess it'd be nice to see all the things happening for other people, but that's what the separate menus are for, right?  : )

  • the new pages are great... I say just make it mandatory, the hell with all of these whining luddites.

  • I think that it is nice for me to see all the things in one page,it is wonderful and fantastic. However, I don't like blue very much. Are there any different colours to choose???

  • Sorry but I don't like this. You say we can switch back "for now."  Does this mean we won't have an option in the future?

  • ok ge...但係會唔會係load個畫面會好慢ga?

  • oh no, I don't like it~~~~

  • Facebook and Xanga are two different things so let's keep it that way.  I like seeing my own stuff when I go to my home page; if I want to know what else has happened like with my subscriptions and feedback, I click on those links.  Plus, having to click on the links provides extra procrastination time

  • I find it one of my favorite things now about Xanga because I can get that quick summary  - new comments to my current or older blogs, subs new entries, etc.  I don't think ti's too cluttered at all.  It's a real time saver, and I appreciate that.

Thanks guys and keep up the great work!

  • i don't like it, please make it optional ASAP!!

  • the new private page ROCKS! i've been using it for about a month or so now and i can't imagine using the old one! keep on keepin' on Xanga Team! i can't wait to see what you'll give us next!!

  • I don't like it.  I WANT TO SEE MY BLOG ENTRIES ON MY HOME PAGE!!  I don't want to have to click to see my public view to see my blogs.  It's annoying.  I don't like clutter so this "new home page" is making my mind go crazy!  I paid for my service... I should have a choice in how my private home looks.  If it looks like this beta and you HAVE to have it, I'll probably will NOT renew my membership!  I definitely think it should be a choice to get this new homepage!  It's so frustrating.

  • i write a lot of private posts for myself to see and it feels really odd not to see them when i login to my private page.

with all the subscription stuff on display, my private page doesnt even look like a private page of mine at all.

can you imagine, having all your letters and work documents stuck on the walls of your foyer? so that you won't miss them when you come into the house? i'm sure you'd agree that these items should be put away in drawers or somewhere more discreet, instead of having them slammed right on your face. the same logic applies. i like how the subscription stuff is in a seperate page in the old page, and can be accessed with just a click whenever i want.

    PLEASE MAKE IT OPTIONAL.

i like the old page MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better.

  • I don't like the new private page.  There is way too much going on.  Do I really have to see all of that?  Will it be optional?  I really don't need or want all of that info.

  • Not sure I really care for it...looks too much like a CrapSpace page.

  • THAT'S JUST GREAT, NOW NO ONE IS GOING TO COME TO MY BLOG AND LOOK AT MY PICS. THE PRIVATE PAGE IDEA SUX!!

  • I really really dont like it at all. Change it back!!!

  • It looks and feels like too much of a complicated form. From a long time Xanga user(five or six years)- this website has been great so far, even with the little changes here and there that have annoyed me...but this one is going too far. I love Xanga for its simplicity.
If anything, make this feature optional when it's not beta anymore.

  • I've seen the private page, and from what I've seen and heard, it looks way too much like Facebook. Meaning that only people we invite can see our blogs. Well, what if we have friends, but they don't want to join Xanga?? So that means we're wasting our time building our blogs, and those people will have hardly anyone checking them out. Also, we don't want to resort to spam to get people to see our blogs, so PLEASE LEAVE XANGA ALONE!!

Thumbs down to the private page.

  • HATE IT!!!  I will NOT use it. I will go elsewhere if necessary. It's MY page and I choose how I want it to look!!!

  • I agree with 'CriminalElementSE', and he has a good point. If people can't get anyone to see their Xanga blogs when they go private, people will spam other Xanga members to get subscribers. Spam sucks like **** and there are people out there desperate enough to do so. I like the idea if it is optional, and it should stay that way.

  • What a shock to my senses this morning!  I think I could like certain aspects of it, like seeing the pictures in my subs threads.  In general though, I want my nice easy on the eyes blue background with my easily readable fonts.  I agree with other pp that it looks too cluttered.  It might be nice to be able to have each section be a widget so I could customize the page to my needs.  Also, the first thing I do when signing in is to update my own site before I visit my subs, so I would rather the page open to my own writings.

I am tempted to switch back right now, but I will try to go a few days to see if I can better articulate some further feedback.

  • I don't like it.  I'm very comfortable with my originial xanga and how it works.  Please leave the option of continuing to use it this way.  The Beta makes it seem to complicated.

    Thanks

    ~Snowhite

  • Using, thanks a lot.

  • I do not like it all. Please keep it optional. PLEASE!

  • So I'm going to have to agree with a lot of others, it looks a lot like Myspace (Facebook? not so much imo) and I feel that with all these changes, Xanga is caving in to peer pressure.

Anyhow, when I started using Xanga years ago it was because I wanted a place to write. It wasn't for all that fancy schmancy crap that Myspace and Facebook have. (I personally hate Facebook).

I like going to my private page and I can see it almost exactly how it appears to everyone else. When I get tired of it, that's when I know it's time to change the background, fonts, etc.

I haven't even moved to using themes on here because I like to create my own page! And that was one of the main things years ago that pulled me in. That I could custom design almost everything.

If this is going to be permanent, I hope it'll be an option, because although I'll give you props that it's "all-in-one-place," I just don't like the fact that it reminds me of Myspace.

I love the old Xanga, don't start following the losers.

  • not really cool~
    i'd prefer the old style!~~

  • The new module combined all the latest entries and posts by friends is impressive making us easier to catch up with friends movement. However the while/plain interface and layout of it is far below expectation as it imposed homogeneity without customization and personalization. I think being a private page, it's somehow like Our Home, that's what I treat mine. So I'd like it to be warm and stay intact with my style and feeling, i.e. with more flexibility in customization. So the motive in improving our experience in social networking is somewhat good, but on the other hand, I long for a more "me" styled page. Thank you very much for your effort!

  • I tried the other blog sites - and the reason I love Xanga is the simplicity in use. I'm an older dog and sometimes I don't want to learn new tricks. Simple is good. I appreciate that you are offering this as an OPTION, not a requirement. Thanks for all the good work. And for giving us new and improved options that we can OPT OUT of.

  •   Yuck!  I hope this is optional -- I want my old page back!

  • sorry but i don't like my new entries in others' feed..... is it possible to make it configurable so that people can't see my entries in feed?

  • i don't like !!
    Could i dele it ?

  • OMG`this is a disaster...i want to have my own designed unique xanga only

  • I know you guys put a lot of effort into it and it maybe great for some people , but I didn't care for it.  My blog is more about MY POSTS, not people's comments or their blogs and every little update they do, IMHO.  Please keep it optional.  ;o)

But I do like the subscriptions page, it's very nice to be able to see people's pics they put into their posts from my subs page!! :o D

  • The reason I stick with xanga instead of facebook or myspace is because xanga has always been simple.  The new subs page and the new private page seem much more cluttered with stuff I don't need or want.  You just keep adding more and more stuff that makes it take more time and work to keep up with my friends.  Why do you keep making it more complicated?  I was seriously thinking about going lifetime premium, but if you're just going to make this harder for regular people with jobs and lives to do, there's no way I'm sending you money!  Myspace and facebook are for kids who have way too much time on their hands...  This place could really be more mature and easy for grownups.

I really feel like your target audience is stupid kids... The featured articles and pictures are juvenice and the minis make things look trashy.

Do you know of a site where the target audience is grown ups?

  • I liked it almost as soon as I clicked on it. I'm very organizational and having all my important lists right there is immensely helpful. The Universal Inbox being front and center is great - the main reason I use Xanga is to chat with my friends. Plus, I really enjoy the new themes and having my old theme look every time I came on Xanga seemed a bit pointless (and a little annoying, since I can never find anything on the old one now).

Basically, I like it the new system as is and couldn't be happier with it...unless you later put in an option to move sections around, the way you can with modules on your site.

  • AT first I hated it .. but i'm getting used to i suppose. its not that bad.

  • Nope, I don't like it, AT ALL. I like the traditional thing that makes your homepage look (pretty much) just like your public page...with having all other pages (subs, inbox, etc) on other pages that clickable to view.

Something that would be nice to have though is the ability to block specific names from viewing just one post, in which it could be different names for each post (not just one list with all the same names for every post that becomes protected, or a list of blocked users). This would be useful for the post that is explaining a surprise for a specific person, or something along those lines...and it could also work for protected postings, in which you pick who you want to be able to read that protected post, and you could pick different names with each protected posting, rather than having just one list of names for ALL the protected postings.

I would REALLY LOVE this feature!!

  • Wow. I can already tell that I like this page much better. I love being able to see all my subscriptions, plus a snippet of their posts. Thanks!

  • its pretty kl !! :)
    i like it

  • I like it! Maybe you can have different color themes also? not really complicated, just like maybe different colors other than orange and blue.

I can't wait for your next updates to make xanga better =]

  • it sucks! bring the old one back!!

  • I'm sorry, but I really don't like it.  Not at all.  Please allow us the option of having our own old private page.  I don't use themes (prefer the antiquated 'Look & Feel', have everything set up to look the same as my skin, and don't want to have to give it all up to conform.  I'm sure it will be great for those who are into the MySpace thang, but I'm not one of those people.  Thanks, though.

  • yay! i like all the new thangs!!!

  • sorry, but i'm really not a fan of the new page.  i enjoy looking at my page the way i organized it - this just adds a lot more clutter, makes it harder to navigate, and when i look at my page, it cuts off my pictures (as well as adding a 160x600 on the side instead of the normal 728x90 i normally see on top).  i'm def. hoping this will remain an option.

  • The new interface looks very nice.

    just the way I like it;

Facebook had the same similiar system ( haha I guess that's where teh vampire refrence comes from? :D )

Until random splotted applications came into play; my notificatiosn wenet from 5 to 50 to 100 easily.

The content display is wonderful, Dash Xanga and Content Feedback combined together!.

Wonderful! : ) looking forward to it!

  • but an option to swtich inbetween would be very nice as once in a while; It's nice to have the old look : )

  • Acutally what would be nice is having two buttons, one that leads back to the orignal private page of your xanga and one beside it thats listed liek "Private" or something of similiar sort that leads you to the new private homepage?.

  • I hate it. Hate it

it too busy, cluttered, and annoying. I prefer the old way much more.

  • I'm thinking at first that I don't really like it.   But you guys must have really put a lot of work into trying out this new idea!   Thank you.     And I know changes can be startling at first.

The first thing I really missed was seeing my design.   I work really hard on it and to have to click over the public view just to enjoy it is a bummer.

Could you add that back in?   That's a biggy!

The next thing I missed was the easy navigation to be able to post a new entry.   I still don't see that and I've looked at the page a couple of times now.

I kind of like the universal box where you see recent activity - but I honestly felt it was not necessary as you can easily navigate to that using the left module info.

I DO like the sharper feedback log.  I can't think right now WHAT it was about it, but it seemed cleaner...

You know, the more I look at it, the more I like the Universal box.  I can see you can switch and see more things - but I really miss the easy posting I have been able to do, plus seeing my page, for the most part, as others see it while I work on it.

What about switching the Univ.  box with the recent weblogs mdule?    Might that be a feasible idea?    Or, and maybe this is wacky, having them share an even space side by side.   (Maybe too wacky?)

I like the Xanga News module better where it is on the new beta setup, that's nicer than at the top.

Boy there were so many differences, I know you worked hard on this.   We appreciate that!   Thank you!

  • It's just too much clutter for me. Gives me a headache just looking at it. I prefer to look at my own page as 'home' and click on the sidebar links to access other information.

  • a little confusing to navigate, but the concept of making it easier to see the comments on your page is a good idea

  • Hey....the one thing I noticed that I didn't really like is, I can only view like 10 of my suscriptions, and I have like 20. Is there a way to put all of them on? I mean it shows that they're shown but when I check, it doesn't have them on.

  • I do like the accessability, I don't like the facebook look.

  • Sure, I'll try it out and give you feedback. Hope it's great! =)

  • I'm a huge Xanga fan, BECAUSE you guys were different from the other blog hosts in the first place.  I do *not* want to go with the new beta version.  I own a world class fansite on xanga (grandfortuna) that has lifetime premium on it, and I chose xanga precisely for the features it had ~at the time~.  I think it's cool that you guys try to provide options and stuff, but PLEASE don't make this a permanent change down the road.  Thanx.

  • It looks a LOT like facebook and myspace... =/ And I already have those. The main reason I have a xanga, aside from the blog entries, is that it's different from myspace and facebook. So yeah...I definitely prefer the old private page.. I think making the new private page optional is the way to go :]

  • please make it more customizable. i don't like it - it's too wide so i can't see every column unless i scroll. just ugh.

  • With the old preview, you were able to see both public posts as well as ones in progress--ones you saved, but hadn't been posted for everyone to see.  I can't see that option here, just public preview option.  help!

  • I agree that it just looks a lot like facebook... I dont really like it sorry

  • I am not opposed to new things, but... I really, truly, hate this new interface! If I wanted to log onto Facebook, I would! I enjoy Xanga for a different reason! (although I do like the sheep and vampires on Facebook )
Please tell me that we will still be able to access our old home page!

  • just reading all the feed back also.. personally it might be more acceptable if it was customizable. I don't really like to have the news feed .. so if I could remove that from my own personal view then  it's be perfect.  I still don't know if I am in love with it yet.

  • Ok I been playing on it. (For the time wasted my boss should send you a bill)

I like it, it took a while to get used to it. Yes it is very "facebookish" but better. It needs to be, as xanga is a bloggers site, you have more stuff happening to keep track of than facebook.

Again I love it you guys did a very good job

  • It's really really terrible, and I don't know how to change it back. It's awful.

  • I got it back now. ^.^

  • Please, I beg you, do Not make this manditory.

  • I agree with Lady Jasmie.  If I wanted Facebook, I'd join facebook.  Sorry, but this just doesn't fly.

  • I could learn to live with it, but I'd prefer to have the background be the same as my public page.  It might be a good idea to keep this optional, as it does look a lot like the MySpace interface.  This could cause confusion or lawsuits.  Then again, I'm a "free" user, so I can put up with just about anything, short of the site disappearing for good.  I do love my xanga! :) - Corky

  • Hi John,

I have grown to like the old one but would use this one now and again, but if you bring it in. I think you should keep the old one as well. I am not so interested in Themes. I prefer my own creativity. Can we apply our own look and feel to the new home.

  • i know you guys will tune this up, but what a great idea and i love where this is going! beta's are wonderful because we get to see where xanga is improving! thank you for not making us wait forever until it was perfect. it's really good to grow with a company instead of having everything already in place.

  • What, is xanga turning into myspace now?

Please keep it optional FOREVER. I'm positive that I'll never want the change. I've been on xanga for like, forever, and it's fine the way it is.

  • WAY too cluttered.

  • Ahh, Xanga in conforming into the larger social networking sites. It has that MySpace and Facebook feel, but that doesn't hlep develop this.
As some people say, it seems too cluttered. Perhaps the modules can be rearranged/minimized/removed, like in Themes? Or maybe even have a customized private page? I know it sounds like Facebook, but it works.

  • I like it.

    And

    I like my old page.

Allow us to toggle between the two and you have a winner!

  • I don't like it....it's too cluttered.  I'd like my page to look like my themes, but still be my private page and set up the same way.  This Beta page is not attractive, at all - don't like it.

  • aaaaaa!  its so busy looking ((can you say facebook??))

I really dont like it, it actually made me anxious just looking at it.

Please dont change it, or if you must - make it an optional feature.

thankyou so much for asking for our input, it is much appriciated. :)

    ~Jen

  • sorry guys ... I agree with Lady Jasmine ... it isn't so great ... I prefer seeing my own customized page as the private page .... I joined under the old system and am still very fond of it ... so much so that I have not even switched to themes ...

... judging by the commentary people either love it or hate it ... if anything make it optional and keep both sides happy ....

  • Please keep this optional!

  • it's nice, but I wouldn't want it! it's too confusing. took me about 5 mins just to find my weblog :(   I actually llike seeing my blogs on the private side. if you can get the blogs to show on the same page as the rest and not have to click on something else to get to it, I'd think about using it!

  • i like the heading of each section, but it does seem a little impersonal (keepingour own theme/color scheme/picture on the private page would help). and i'd much rather have my own text as the focus of the page rather than "universal box" (which seems like a news feed equivalent from facebk). the upper left hand corner (where sub/msg/feedback/log are) seems completely random and tucked away. and add stuff icons are a plus. good effort, but you guys can do so much better!

  • The first thing I want to see when I log in is my blog page. Seeing happenings on my blog first then on to other people's. It is MY blog afterall. That's why I am using xanga and not multiply or other blog sites. This is turning trashy like other social networking sites.

Plus in this news feed page, I can't see my sitemeter and tracker.

One feature that I would really like is to be able to change the date and time of my entries. I've been waiting for that since ages ago. Maybe you guys could work on this for the next time. Back to basics means to improve the way we blog, and not adding more fanciful things that has nothing to do with blogging.

  • it's nice, but i'd prefer it to be optional. i have a public and private site, so having a "universal inbox" be the bulk of my homepage on my private site is kinda pointless.

  • Yeah, it's good if you don't already keep track of them on a separate tab/window.
Also, it'd be good if we can choose to use the old style or this new style later in the future when it's out of beta test..

  • 'Cause as others have said, if I wanted facebook, I would use facebook. Optional I beg of you!

  • I use both MySpace and Facebook to keep up with pals over at that those sites, but Xanga is my favorite because it is not like either of them.  I love the new Xanga Themes because it makes Xanga the most personable and easiest to customize.  And it was shame enough that the old private page could not match the public Theme page.  But this new Beta system seems to take the personalized part away from us entirely.  Yeah it's handy to have all the info on one page, but it just another page of information...it's not MY Xanga page, it's your Xanga page that you've created for each and everyone of us using a cookie cutter.  I know you guys worked really hard on this, and I feel bad that in looking through the comments so many of us don't like this change.  Find a way for us to make this page of information personal (ie similar to our Look-n-Feel/Theme/Skin etc) and I think more of us can embrace it.

  • Dear John:

I tried out the new home page just for today - and I have a suggestion - in the weblogs section could you guys also contain protected and private entries as well? Or else every time I go back to my public site I can't even edit it - I think that would really make things convenient as I have to go back and find it all over again. Is that a possible content revision?

    Yours, Thank You

    XINYU HU

  • Not bad, great work =)

  • by trying so painfully hard to become facebook, indeed you guys took a step backward. this experimental beta makes all private pages look identical, so what's the point of modifying our page design? you may consider incorporating some of its functions into the dashboard, though, i think dashboard users will enjoy this.

  • I like the old way better. I'm here to blog for me, and I like the way my page looks. I don't have anyone commenting, I don't have subscriptions. I just want to see my thoughts, and the new page doesn't really allow that, not to mention that it's cluttered and the I have my page set up is relaxing. I like the colors, I like the way it's set up. If you do implement this new private page, please make it optional.

  • hmm. it reeks of Facebook, but, I love Facebook too, so, yay. however, please don't change the essence of Xanga... after all, it is about content, as you say. but it's still a bit unsettling :(

  • oh i like it!! yay!

  • The page is wider than a 1024*768 resolution screen, gotta adjust that right.

  • the new page is awesome! i like the icons and the move from tabs to the selector module on the top left.

  • what? whatever happened to privacy........

  • oh holy crap.  please please i beg you never make this non-optional.  i want to see my page when i log in, not some facebook-wannabe list of what everyone else is doing.

  • yea, please KEEP this optional, i'd be very appreciative

  • I actually really like it. At first, I wanted my old private page back, but once i used the new one a few times , i started enjoying being able to see all of my feedback without having to go to a different link & now i love it ! thanks :)

  • Don't change it/get rid of the old page please! I HATE feeds. facebook UGH, then myspace had to add it, now xanga? DON'T DO IT, please.

  • I liked the old layout better for blogging but I could see how something like that could be useful for people who use the site differently--but please don't take away the old view, I like it fine the way it is.

  • is there anyway to get our old layouts for our blogs back? the way we custom made them?

  • I don't like it. I found it way more inconvenient because it's so cluttered, it's hard to find what I'm looking for. Too facebooky, myspacey. There's a reason I don't have a myspace page. I don't understand it and don't like it.

Maybe I'm just too old, but I like the simplicity of the old look. I like being able to see my posts when I log in. If I want to see what's new in my subscriptions, I'll click on the read subscriptions link. I fail to see what's so difficult or inconvenient about that. It's one click.

The new page has too much to look at. My eyes don't know where to go or what to focus on. If enough people want this (although I can't imagine who or why), please only make it an option. Please let the rest of us have what we like about Xanga as compared to facebook and myspace.

  • Not a fan, but I'm an old-school longtime user who's grumpy whenever xanga changes. As long as this remains optional, it's fine with me, since not all of us use xanga to connect with friends. :)

  • if there is a way to revert back to the original original where you can see your whole page and your leftside panel as well I would greatly appreciate it. It would be better to make this new homepage an optional thing because although it does seem to be pretty handy I prefer the oldschool-ish version and where there's one there may be many.

    thanks,
    nick.

  • i totally agree with Lady_Jasmine. please let us keep the old version if we want. i think the private page now is perfect.

  • OPTIONAL, PLEASE.

The whole reason I have a xanga is because it's not like every other crappy site. not trying to be rude, but uhh... the new homepage looks exactly like everything else I was trying to get away from...

  • i don't like it. if you're going to use this, please allow the option to choose the older feature. like the hershey's commercial. change is bad. and like pass_the_aura said, make facebook want to be you!

btw, if this is going to be optional, us users better be allowed to control what others are seeing in this new view feature.

  • i dun really like it. -_-"

  • I just clicked on it and I liked it immediately.  I will sure give it a try.  I would make it optional.

  • btw, i have a request. is it possible to allow commenters the ability to edit/delete their comments?

  • I'm not really impressed. It's not terrible--it wouldn't make me leave xanga, but I hope you leave it optional.

  • too much like myspace. it's cluttered.

perhaps you can offer something that allows users to select which parts of it they want?

  • When Myspace was popular, it seems that you were trying to copy them. Now it's Facebook.

If I wanted a Myspace or Facebook page, I would have gone with Myspace or Facebook. I like Xanga. Don't change too much.

  • It's really confusing to have everything all in the same feed like that.  Most of the time I just want to know who's updated; seeing who's added photos, who's commented, etc etc, is confusing to sift through when I just want to read blogs.

  • I update alot at night & the white background is murder in the dark. I like the new set-up ('cept the news feed), but I'd like to have maybe a black background with white lettering & borders.

Is there a way to do that without altering the public view?
I don't mean to be negative or insult attempts at innovation, but Xanga should be chill & personal, not so much a social network.

I really agree with Disunderstanded way up there. eProps.

  • Ack!  Wait a minute!  Is this what I'm going to see when I click on my website name in the top righthand corner???  And not my own blog with my banner and entries and stuff??  seeing my own blog entries all in one place, the way others see it, is the most important thing of all... did you guys take that away?  or am I just lost?

  • Okay... so I've decided I don't like this at all   I want to see my own site with its own colours and banner and the way I've set everything up... I set it up that way for ME, not for other people... whats the point if I can't see any of it?  My site is all black with white letters for a reason... easier for my eyes to focus on words and stuff... I have visual processing issues and seeing all the white with all the stuff everywhere is too hard on my eyes... I don't process all the words properly...

Also,  I go through my old blogs and read them a lot... I like to be able to see all five entries on the same page... and be able to go through them easily... right when I log in... I don't need any of the other stuff... basically I want to see all of MY stuff on my private page, not a feed of what everyone else is doing... and I know some people blog ONLY for themselves; wouldn't this new interface be annoying for them? please make this only optional or don't change it at all

  • I absolutely hate it! I like to be able to read my friends blogs all on the same page in a normal way. I don't like the fact that my friends blogs show up in a very thin box that's only about 5 words acoss. It's impossible to read!

  • hayy! i want you guys to make it so you can change your username instead of making a new site. that is your goal for 2008!

  • it's liveable. i could get used to it.
but overall, it feels cluttered and messy with all these boxes and headings.

I like the idea though of the universal inbox. very handy!
However, I would like a simpler version
maybe less 'news' in the universal inbox.
maybe take out the profile pictures of the people in the universal inbox.

and a thinner background behind the headings like "Recent Weblogs" and "Xanga News"
or take out the headings, and have a thin border around each section instead.

and it's a little wide for me also (as other users have noted)
my resolution is 1024 x 768, just so you know!

hope these suggestions are helpful. =) though those are just my own thoughts of how i'd like it. i don't know what others would think.

  • Awesome!

Something like Facebook without all the extra stuff to distract you.  Keep improving to keep up with myspace and facebook but keep it xanga simple and unique!

    Aloha!

  • uhm.. no.. i like xanga private homepage just the way it is when i first joined xanga in 2002.  i went through torture and tons of html help pages just to figure out how to make it just the way it is.  so please just like a couple of people that mentioned it above.. PLEASE make this an optional thing.  once again xanga is awesome just the way it is. simple and uncluttered =)

  • Personally, I'm not much of a fan. Cool for people who want it, but not for me. Keep it optional.

  • Honestly, I hate it. I hated the feeds system on other sites and I don't like it here either. I like it the way it's been since the beginning, where my home page is the past few things I've posted. As has been said already, it's impersonal, difficult to navigate, cluttered, etc.

  • i kinda agree with the others disagreement. it's a bit too cluttery. glad to hear that it's only optional. it's okay but im more of stick in the mud kinda gal. i like having things the way im used to ...

  • First impression is that it is unnecesarily cluttered, but I'll give it while and see if it grows on me. I was used to the old homepage, but have to admit that it, too, had its shortcomings.

  • sorry....i dun like it at all~~
but thanks for providing a choice to us!!

  • I am still loving it !

  • Are you trying to kill us?

  • it's good and easy to read!

  • I don't really care for the new page idea. The old one is less complicated and less cluttered (the 2 main reasons I'm on Xanga instead of MySpace in the first place.) I hope if it becomes the norm that we will be able to opt to keep the old style if we want it (like the old layout some of us still use.) Thanks for asking my opinion, and I hope it helps.

  • Most folk i know never log into they're facebooks because it is far too cluttered and confusing
And being amoung them, i can say i dislike the change

    Zain

  • It's way too cluttered and there's not enough space for everything. Trying to jam everything into such a small space... it's like a walmart. ><

The old Xanga layout was better than that. -___-

  • argh!

    HATE it.

    PLEASE let it be optional.

  • For some reason, I couldn't find how to modify my Custom Module on the new home page.

  • It's okay-looking, but too facebook-like for me. : I'm glad that the beta layout is optional, though.

  • i loved it... i thought it arranged everything in one place so i could quickly access it!

  • it looks very much like facebook. lol its a good idea, but it makes all the information appearing in a page which is a bit messy tbh. thanks for the continuous improvements anyway.

  • I'm not even going to try it because I really like the old xanga. I did try a new theme once, and I didn't like it at all. It was too confusing and hard to work for my tastes. I'm paying for premium xanga. I hope you keep the old xanga option. Thanks.

  • is it optional?
I am fine with the old one... and I love it.

  • I don't know what everyone is complaining about.  It seems MUCH more simplified to me.  I can immediately see who's commented on my posts, photos, etc.  Who's sent me messages and who's added an entry to their blogs without having to switch back and forth between different screens...

I personally think it's a great improvement and hope that you press forward.  I suppose you could make it optional for those who don't like it ... but please don't take the new version away!

  • I think i could get used to it, but one thing i really miss is the look and feel. It would be great if there are options to change the colors, the background and maybe an option were you can choose which modules you want to have on you private page and were you'd like to pace them.

I dont like pages were you cant make it look like you want to. This is what i've always liked on xanga. So maybe you could add this?

  • I do not like it one bit, please keep it optional. I have facebook and find it hard to navigate.

  • Great. Good job.

  • i hate it. i mean, i know you xanga people put a lot of work into it, but please make this optional :)

  • Hmm, I like the concept (and that it looks like the new theme system) but I'd like to be able to customize the layout so I can look at what I want to look at... (as in I like my posts front and center and I'd like the universal inbox as a right column...  And maybe being able to choose what actually goes into the inbox would be a good idea?

Oh and its pretty annoying that the inbox shows the "so and so added a new weblog entry" every stinking time they edit a previous entry!

    Thanks!
    Ben

  • While it is nice, it really doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling - which is why I like Xanga.  I have the Facebook account and the look is the same - nope, not my favorite.  Optional is good.

  • honestly,
i like the old one better.

  • could you make the new version of private page and subpage as optional.
tho' those new versions are great, i'd prefer the old one. =)

    thanks, good job anyways.

  • em, actually i mean, could you please keep the old versions as well
    x

  • Positives:

I'm working off a slow connection and not having to load all my picture-posts is nice.  Seeing comments and subscription updates up front is also nice, but there's a couple of things I'd like to see cleaned up (see below).  Changing from the private page to the public one is a lot easier, as the link is more up-front and visible.  Adding posts, pictures, video, etc is also more visible, which is another thing I liked.

    Negatives:

It's cluttered - that's the simplest way of putting it.  It's also too MySpace-ish, which detracts from the whole reason why I came to Xanga in the first place.  If there was a way to re-arrange the page (i.e. like the Themes) I'd definitely think about changing over.

    Overall:

It's okay, but make it optional.  On a scale of 1-10 (10 being high), I'd give it a high 6.  Given that it's a beta, I'd say there's a good deal of room to improve.  Being able to see my posts outside the public site is a big positive I have for the old version, as it aids proof-reading; being able to see feedback and updates from friends/subscriptions is a positive, as it's easier to see new stuff from others.  Like the themes, it's a good idea that needs to be developed, and having said that: I'll keep an eye on it.

  • Hate it. There should be an option to use it or not.

  • Pretty good as far as I can see.

  • It's disgusting. I want a personal blog that doesn't look like I'm reading the news and checking up on stocks. It seems all scrambled. I tend to order my Xanga things chronologically. If this is it, I most definitely won't go premium when it can fit in the budget.

  • hey John - I just need you guys to know one more thing that I think the new homepage could have: Xanga Webpage Editor, like the traditional one that will allow you to fix up codes on your Xanga and add up your own HTML codes...

The reason is because I can't find the page appearance editor thing...any help in that area?

    Yours, sincerely

    XINYU HU

  • 1) Just to be clear the public page should definitely be the original page. A lot of people put work into their own personal design. This is part of what distinguishes Xanga from Facebook.

    2) The newsfeed is a good idea, only if it is optional. The user should be able to choose one or the other as the preferred personal private page.

    3) Put a link or a tab on the original home page that allows the user to view the newsfeed page.

    4) Put a link or a tab on the newsfeed page that allows the user to easily view and work on the original homepage. (Not just a public preview, but the actual private page.)

Finally, Xanga adding new features that have proven popular on other sites like Facebook can be beneficial to Xanga users, but only if Xanga implements those features while retaining the distinguishing elements of Xanga. Otherwise, Xanga will be lose its distinctive experience. There is a Xanga visual experience and a Facebook visual experience, and while adding some of the popular interconnectivity elements could be highly useful, one of the compelling things about Xanga is the experience of having one's own home page.

  • I think that its very useful && verrry convenient. Right now, I have it set back at the old private home page, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you keep it as an option, because it is something that I would like to go back to once in a while.

Thanks! Keep up the good work!

    Sincerely, MicheleLacson

  • Regarding (3) and (4) in my previous comment, the current blog link on the beta newsfeed takes me to a washed out and truncated version of my original page. I want to be able to work on my original page in the environment (color, pictures, etc.) that it will be experienced in public, with all the links and features currently available on the original private page.

  • Um..and can I say I dont like the new subscription page either.

  • I really really don't like it...please make it optional!  i make my page look nice so that i can enjoy it, it's not for anyone else, and while i like the convenience that you're going for, i prefer the current settings.  +sylvia+

  • please make it optional....
can i switch back to the regular one? please tell me how to switch back to the previous version..
i love the old one and i hate this new one...
    for real
    thanks~

  • Hmmm ... I'm not sure I like it yet. The idea to a certain degree could be neat, but I don't know. I really like looking at my page the way I designed it to look, and I don't feel like I have any issues navigating with the pull down menus at the top of my page. I hope this remains an optional thing, or gets some serious tweaking.

  • It looks way too crowded.  And I agree with mjh905.  I write a LOT of private posts (I blog for others but I also use Xanga as like a "secret" journal thing) and would like to have those private entries at my fingertips / right in front of me.  Great idea for a button displaying private entries only (and protected only).  I've also been thinking it'd be handy to have a way to search your own blog, and not the entirety of Xanga, for words or phrases.

  • PLEASE make this optional !

  • First of all, like so many others have said, yes it looks too much like facebook, and yes it is too cluttered.  And of course, the page needs to appear in the same style, fonts, and background that our normal page appears (unlike facebook, where everybody's page has about the same layout and looks about the same).   After all, that's what we love about xanga- we can make it truly our own- we can be CREATIVE with it in whatever way we choose.

A few people have said things along the lines that Xanga needs to embrace its Xanga-ness, instead of trying to be like facebook and myspace, and I completely agree.  While xanga may seem similar to facebook and myspace, it really needs to embrace the features that make it unique, which are why all of us have chosen Xanga over myspace and facebook.

Xanga is a more personal community than either myspace or facebook, and I know that's definitely one of the things I like most about it.  On facebook, people post about their jobs and classes and relationship status and stuff, and communication remains extremely impersonal and on the surface.  On Xanga, you can know how someone is really doing that day, not just that semester.  And communication on Xanga tends to be much more in-depth and serious than it does on facebook.  Facebook serves a purpose of keeping someone only slightly in touch in a very impersonal way with usually hundreds of friends.  Xanga lets people be more in touch with just dozens of friends more closely.

Xanga is truly about blogging, not about surface communication, like myspace & facebook are.  Some people blog to keep in touch with friends and family, while others blog just for themselves, like a journal.  (It really wouldn't make sense to have a facebook page just for yourself though).  So when you've switched to a format that may be a bit more  convenient at times but lends itself to surface communication, people have balked at it, because we truly want to keep it more personal, with the focus being on blogging.

One thing you did in the last several months- creating the featured question "feature" has been fantastic.  It has prompted more blogging, even out of those who have "bloggers block."

Sorry for the long post, but please, keep the focus on the blogs and the personal relationships, not on the surface communication and impersonal relationships.

    Thanks!

  • Yeah, I'm not a fan either.  I really don't like it.  Sorry.

  • don't really like it

  • um, I'm NOT a fan. I've been using xanga since 2000 and I kinda like that it still looks exactly the same. Making the "read your subscriptions" button bigger would be easier on your readers than doing a total private-page redesign. Plus, I like having my page be my color. My periwinkle rocks and it's been the same for a LONG time, check it out!

PS- I still wish the super cool editor functions worked in safari on my old mac. They still only work in Firefox....

  • Judging by the responses here it would appear that this isn't your best 'improvement' to date ... I like my Xanga just the way it is.  Please keep this optional.  Or scrap the idea.  Ta.

  • I can't see how my site looks anymore for designing purpoes. It feels too cluttered--not "neat and clean" anymore.   I'm not crazy about it though I could learn my way around it if I needed to I guess.

  • Hmm...it has it's positives and negatives. I could go either way. It could be a lot better....at this point I'd rather stick with what I'm used to.

  • I like it! I like seeing the updates my friends have made right away: At the top, in the center. It's organized with white background and easy to read. Good idea! The icons at the top help too.

My only issue: The icon that looks like a journal was not that intuitive to me. I looked around for a while on how to post a new weblog. But I did find it.

  • TOO BUSY. I like my current (the old) private page!

  • I really hate the new version. If you implement it, please make it optional.

  • Thats Cool Hey Guys Please Please Come Check Out My RIHANNA FAN SITE its the best Lookin fansite On XANGA plz come support just trynna spread the word bout my site :) plz subcribe

  • I gave it a second look and I still hate it. It is a design nightmare to be completely honest. With the exception of the little "add stuff" icons, which are visually nice, it looks like it was created by geeks not designers.

I actually preferred Xanga back when you could see your private, protected and public posts all on the same page.

I see Xanga's strength in it's ability to let the user be the designer. The new design only reminds me why I don't use MySpace and Facebook. Too much crap on one page is too much stimulation for my brain.

I wish Xanga would aspire to be more like Apple than Microsoft...

  • I actually really like it. It beats going through my longggggg list of subscriptions and clicking each one for updates or looking at them page by page in the subscription log.
    And I like the layout.

  • i like the set up when i read the subscriptions. mainly because now i can see people's photos (if they didn't disable it). it's so much more fun to read my subscriptions now. as for everything else, i'd prefer keeping things my way.

  • John,

    can i have now?

    June

  • definitely make it optional.  i like my uncluttered xanga.  if i want to network i'll go to facebook.  if i'm forced to use this "new improved" xanga, believe me - i'll switch to lj.

but i like xanga!  i'm a longtime blogger!  so just make it optional!

  • Not to belabor the point, but you guys are pretty bad at arranging information visually.
I'm not digging the new homepage hub at all.

Instead of adding extra features, I'd like to see some of the classic Xanga interfaces changed a bit- like the "Edit" column on your "private" weblog view.
I feel that some of the sub-options could be assimilated into one page to make it look less repetitive and cluttered. Like the Video/Audio upload option, for example.

"Xanga Themes"  in the "Look and Feel" section simply need to go. It's a mess, and not user-friendly at ALL.

    Keep being awesome, dudes. :)

  • awww.. ugly layout sorry I don't like it U_U... I keep xanga beacause i can customize my page and make it my own diary.. I have facebook too,,, but xanga has something facebook doesn't have.. so please make things optional... and the classic xanga is always the best!

  • I've been reading all the comments on here and it seems a lot of people agreed with what I said... I want to see ONLY my own posts on my private page, not a bunch of other stuff having to do with other people.  You guys are going to address that problem and make this awful cluttered interface optional, right?  Or something?

  • STOP FUCKING WITH THE SITE.

I REPEAT: STOP FUCKING WITH THE GODDAMNED SITE.
    KTHX.

  • In some respects I like the fact it is all in one page instead of going back and forth between three or four things tolook at it and read then have to look at subs etc..........It could make peoples life easier and a little more enjoyable.

  • I know what my weblogs say; I don't need to see them right when I sign in. When I sign in, I wanna check out my footprints and what's goin' on with my friends.

    I like this new setup.

  • Oh, also, it's too large horizontally-wise for my 1024×768 screen. Fix that before making this permanent, please.

  • I sure wish there was some sort of access to my master list of tags from the private page...

  • i hate it! please do not change xanga!!!! i like the simple, old xanga! let us keep our old sites!

  • It looks like facebook's main feed page.

  • hi. i say stay with the orginal instead of trying to change to make it cool or whatever. i mean i don't want xanga to look like a second edition of facebook or something. it's fine the way it was. stand out and don't blend in with the others.

  • i'm not so down. (at all.) please don't make everyone switch. i won't like to come here anymore..and this is my first love, Xanga. please don't ruin it...

  • i don't like to use theme...

  • I hope that we can chose the Language in the own

    Private Page

  • I think the old one is better.

  • I hate it hate it hate it.

If I wanted myspace, I'd go there.  Give me the option to permanently select my old granny xanga please.

  • i really like this. it's better than automatically going to your xanga right after logging in.

  • i think making it optional is a good idea. then those who don't like it can choose to keep their original home page.

but i'm all for this new system. ^_^

  • I like the info it displays, but it's not very pretty...rather clinical and I suppose Facebook-esque. It's less of a "private" page and more of an "updates" page. Perhaps simplifying the current Private page so that it has a link to this as an Update page or some such would be more appropriate?

  • Most of the comments that I have read seem to be following the idea of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"  I have to agree with that sentiment, because quite frankly, the new page has the fingermails-on-the-blackboard effect on me.  If you do implement the new page format, keep it optional.

  • I don't like it, I prefer the old one...
... the original xanga is the best, very light, easy to use and customizable, this one is ugly, much heavier and harsh :( (
A very bad thing is that is so different from the public page, and I hate that...
Maybe you could make it optional for those users whom like the Facebook look... but PLEASE, just don't make it the only choice >_<
And even if you make it optional my personal suggestion is not to make it the default choice, I can't stand that new users would start trying it...
... I think the best about xanga was the old interface, without it xanga would be much more similar to Facebook and there will be no reason to choose xanga instead of Facebook = =||||
That's said from the bottom of my heart, THINK carefully about that, I think you could make unhappy many affectionate users and lose your own originality -_-
... maybe I wouldn't stop my now xanga, but I just would be doubtful about suggesting it to others...

  • Copying facebook much?? Why be a facebook when there is already a facebook?

  • i agree with all the other users who've said that if we wanted
facebook, we'd use facebook. i occasionally use facebook and myspace,
but xanga is my blog; the others are just because some friends don't
have xanga [silly people]. i want this page to STAY OPTIONAL,
because i really don't like it. or, for those of us who like the old
xanga, you could have this "new" page as an "updates" page to which we
can navigate from our private page [good idea, Jill_Pole].

i'm gonna stick with xanga through pretty much anything, but switching
to this new page will definitely have me using it less. just to make
sure i got my point across: I DON'T LIKE THE NEW PAGE.

  • Please, please do keep it optional. I'd also like my background back please...

  • i don't like it.  it's hard for me to find my private entries (i still haven't found them) and it's just too much---simple is better.  everything was neatly stacked to one side in the old layout.  and plus, i still got to keep my own theme and style and colors on my private homepage.

this new layout really is like another facebook--and personally, i think that takes away from the original purpose of xanga--content.

  • I have a suggestion.

I think it would be useful if there was a list of our entries somewhere.

  • Optional if you must.  This set up does not favor what I wish to see first.

  • ....how do we manage our past weblog entries with this new system? once i private them...i can't get to them unless they're recent. I don't have a xanga theme.

  • Hey John. Thanks for the info.. it sounds really cool!

cant wait for monday on the live question thigerr u did on friday!!

  • It's cluttered, and I don't like it.

It should remain optional.  I also think that the use of themes should be optional as well.  I've changed xanga names, and I was very disappointed that I can't do what I want with the page anymore...

    Just some thoughts.

    <33

  • hmm... should i ask to delete it or not??? well, i think it's ok... but i couldnt find the "look and feel" button..... with the new version so i went back

  • HATE IT.  Completely ugly.  Far far uglier than Myspace or Facebook -- and, worst of all, it doesnt take into account my color preferences or anything like that.

    Ugly.  Hideous.  Clumsy.  Horrible.

    Fix it.

  • It seems a bit messy.  Like you said, I think that Xanga users appreciate content more than all the other "stuff" that other sites have.  If we subscribe to other Xanga users, we already get a daily e-mail update on everyone's new entries right in our inbox.

I don't care if somebody else loaded up a new photo, etc.  I just want to read my friends' updates on their lives and I already get that through my Xanga digest.

Maybe if you incorporate SOME of the more convenient tabs into the original private homepage, that would be a nice new look.  The feed on everybody else's happenings is NOT appealing.  That should be on a sidebar, not smack in the center.

We Xanga users like personalizing our pages with colors, music, etc.  Please keep it that way.  It sets Xanga apart from all the other sites.

The other sites seem to be mainly for networking.  I don't feel right journaling/blogging on Facebook or MySpace.  They are WAY to messy looking and serve a different purpose.

  • I wouldn't say I hate it...there is a lot of cool things about the beta that you all added and as a CS major I know of the challenges and time you all put into it, however, a lot of us use Xanga as a way to communicate our thoughts and even display our personalities by being able to personalize our site. It is a safe haven for expressing ourselves...I respect facebook for what it is (a way to communicate with a lot of people), but it doesn't allow for personal touches or thoughts like xanga.

Thanks for considering our comments and also for making it optional. I like the feedback box and the updates on what friends add...helps to navigate and keep in touch better...but yeah still in love with the old xanga way! :)

  • I like it!  It makes it easier to do everything from one place.  Keep it optional for those that don't, but definitely keep it!

  • I don't really like this new private page at all. Seeing as that Xanga is more of a journal of sorts to me I don't want to look at other people's content when I go to my private page.

  • I prefer the old private page.  I like the personalization options.  The new page is too much like Facebook.  It reminds me of newspaper websites;  impersonal and over-saturated with data.  It is too cluttered.  The old page is more simple and I can make it look the way I want.  If this is fully implemented in the future, please keep it optional.  I would hate to think I might stop enjoying blogging here, but that just might happen if I can't have the freedom to make the page "mine", if you know what I mean.

  • I have to agree with the majority here... please, PLEASE keep this an optional feature. The idea of having to deal with that as a permanant feature is horrifying. I love xanga just the way it is, and I really don't want to see it turn into anything remotely like myspace or facebook... and this is dangerously close to that. I put a lot of hard work into customizing my personal space, and I'd like to see my hard work on my private page. I don't want some generic cluttered nightmare to replace it.

So please, for Xanga's sake... keep it optional. Long time Xangans wouldn't have stuck around if Xanga needed anything this drastic. We love it just the way it is.

  • I like it. Everything all in one place. It's more convenient.

  • Hey Xanga team,

I think it's a good idea but I have to agree with a few of the people here who commented saying it was cluttered cause it really IS! Try having the xanga news linked away from the page so that it'll look less messy; I'd go for a homepage look that can be digested by the user at one glance and not needed to be carefully analysed for hours so definitely try out simplifying or shortening some of them icons and texts.

    Good Luck!. Andrew.

  • The beta page looks like facebook.

I came to Xanga because it was a blog site, not another impersonal networking site. I understand that this is a beta, and it's optional--for now--but with all the changes that have come down, I'm really dissatisfied. It may be going to my own domain so that I can have control of my look and feel, completely.

I'd hate to leave Xanga, but that's what it's coming down to...

  • I adore it but i prefer a optional choice....

  • I'm fine with it as long as we get to theme-ify the private page, too, or to have it reflect the public view. What I liked about old Xanga was having just one look for the whole experience.

The new private page is still a bit cluttered, so I hope we get to choose which boxes we want to show, how wide the boxes are, etc. All in all, it's visually painful.

  • PLEASEEEE tell me how to change it back!! I prefer it the way it was!!! I clicked it out of curiousity and now i can't change it back!!

  • please make it optional...

  • = ="''
Worst theme that I have ever seen...

PLEASE....Make it Optional Not to follow....

Not EVERYONE wants to use your design...

  • Sounds great! I'm all for making things more convenient~!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Another thing: I don't use Xanga themes [I prefer to write my own code and post it using the old format, thanks]. Can't you just make this an optional feature like you made the look and feel thing? I prefer the old why--that's why I've been around for five years.

  • Sorry? I do not understand what the new private page is for. I can't even find my entries. I prefer the old private page, so I can exactly see what my xanga page is like.

  • Please don't try to turn xanga into something it's not. I know you have huge competitors in the myspace/facebook category, sites that get rich off the fact that they cater to attention-starved and attention-span depleted teenagers. But please, please, don't try turning xanga into another hi-tech, impersonal, unoriginal networking site.

  • love it! i havnet been on here for a while and now im back!

  • Is this something like Xanga Themes again? I don't quite get it.

I also absolutely detest themes as well as being confused about how to get the normal version of Xanga.
Normal way to go to your Look and Feel?

    help!

  • I did just check out the new page... it almost gave me a heart attack.

Hideous. Since when did xanga become so much about everybody else and so little about you? It's supposed to be a blog site, not a social networking site. I love xanga, have always loved it, love it and respect it more than any social networking site. Don't ruin that.

  • somehow I don't like it. but it's a pretty good idea.

    :)

  • The new beta page is absolutely annoying. I hope there will be an option to use the old private page if you chose to go on with this. It's too wide and extremely different from the public page. I don't get that. There is just too much info, links whatnot all over the screen. It's too busy. The left side modules are definitely much better. Having everything on one page doesn't always mean better. Is this your attempt at being like Facebook? The feeds thing isn't that cool. It is actually very annoying. LESS IS MORE.

  • It really isn't going back to basics. It's much more complicated, and very cluttered.

  • 1. I don't like having a horizontal scroll bar. For a well-established name like Xanga, horizontal scroll bars should not be anywhere in sight.
    2. I think the new page looks to cluttered and messy. It seems like it was just thrown together for the sake of having it. The location of things aren't very organized.

Would I use it? Probably not. I'm still using the old Xanga private page from back in 2006 or so. I prefer the simplicity of things.  Maybe if it were to be reorganized some to make things intuitive, then I might. I also suggest allowing us to customize how it looks. Hence why I'm still using the old private page.

    Just my 2 cents.

  • hmm, I admire what you're trying to do with the new page, but I really do prefer my simpler/plainer format and being able to view my own webjournal/entries when I log in - I think subscriptions and friends' activities and all that are great, but it'd be nicer to have a second page/link out for those things, instead of making that my home page...

  • It does indeed look a little bit like Facebook, which is a little bit of a turnoff for me. I do like the updated blogs portion of it.

  • Definitely NOT a fan at all. Like others above have mentioned this should be an optional thing. The page doesn't even look like xanga anymore. :(

  • I love this! Thanks for a great private page! It is much easier to work with!

  • Count me in as one of the people who isn't terribly impressed with the new home page.  I dislike a lot of visual clutter, and this new page has clutter out the wazoo.  I like to be able to check what my last post was, see if I have any comments on it, and then head to check visitors or subscriptions.  I don't need a lot of what's appearing on this new beta page.

By all means continue experimenting and finding ways to improve Xanga, but please keep this new page optional if it's to be used at all.

  • Dissssssssssssssssssssssgussssssssting!

I like my site just as it is...

  • OH MY GOD

NOW JUST CLICKING TO LOOK AT IS HAS CHANGED MY WHOLE SITE - I HATE IT - NEXT TIME I WILL NEVER CLICK ANY LINK YOU POST TO LOOK

    CHANGE IT BACK PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I hate it - Change to this and I wont bother!

  • k...... heart attack over (feels like iriot - lol) As you can tell - I hate the new beta version

  • WAY too much. i love my old xanga

  • Ick! I couldn't find anything I wanted. Please keep it optional! I like my Xanga the way it is!

  • sorry i must say i don't like it at all, please make it optional lol

  • the desgin is very bad~ I can't even edit my previous blog!!

    not user-friendly~

I prefer the old private page!!

  • I don't think it's good...
I want to see my header and background and everything...
Wouldn't it be gr8 to just let it be what it is??

  • Um No offense there...
But I like the old one better,
so plz make it optional like the xanga theme.
    Thank you =]

  • Hi John, I never leave comments here and thanks for your effort on pulling xanga to a better service. Anyway, I am so sorry to tell you that the new page is ABSOLUTELY NOT suitable for me. As I saw some other user prefer it is a optional function, I  prefer optional, too. Thanks a lot^^

  • That's cool, I'll try it out. I liked the "sheep and vampires" thing. I'm starting to dislike facebook more and more. :D

    Thanks, Andrew

  • that's great!!

  • Convenient?  Perhaps from some aspects.  In other ways this is just making things more complicated.  I would highly recommend you make this new styling optional for those people who will actually enjoy this.  I'm not, and manys others will not either.  Otherwise, I'd seriously be packing my bags out of xangaland.

  • I love the new private home page.  I only have one thing that I'd like to point out.  It'd be great if you can erase my subscription's blog entry history from my private homepage if the person I subscribed to decided to set his or her entry as private.  I feel like a butt-head clicking on an entry on my Universal Inbox that is not meant for me to read.  Thanks.

  • i hate it i want it to look the way i want it to look.

  • Xanga, you're good enough on your own. I agree with the others who said it--if I wanted another crappy blog site, I'd be on another crappy blog site. You don't need to emulate these "social networking" things to get ahead. Your uniqueness is why the smart people love you and why the stupid people can't comprehend our love.

Still, I realize you've got to do something, like that's your job, but please don't get carried away, all right? I'm somebody who still hates the new Editor and only uses it because I can't update "Currently . . ." in the old one. I won't even start on my hate for the new theme editor, but the Minis are cool. I just recently got on that bandwagon and they are cool. I love you, Xanga

  • Yeah I don't like it either. Looks like a hybrid of facecrud & mymess.  I have both of those as well to connect with college friends. I never post blogs there just because I hate the layout of those pages. I like the simple & efficient usability of xanga. I'm glad it's just a beta page.
Please don't make it permanent. I'm sure it might be useful for those migrating from myspace or facebook, but for longtime users of xanga it a definite no.

If you were to add something useful that the other sites have, it would be the connectability factor they have by posting the schools attended etc. Just don't adopt their look.

  • I have a facebook and a myspace because most of my friends don't have xangas but I prefer xanga. I liked the old way and I like the new themes but I don't like this new thing. It's bland and boring looking like facebook.

Please, please if you keep this look, please keep it optional. Thanks

  • Hey, me again. Was just thinking: why not put all your effort and talent (which you obviously have) into features that you already *know* users really want. For example: multiple protected lists for premium users, the ability to protect your photoblog (I hate that you can see that when all the rest of my site is totally privatized) , the ability to search your own site etc etc..

These are all features that users have been begging for for years now...why not get them working before starting on something new that isn't really necessary...

  • Lets see uhh, the clutter and it looking kinda bunched together, we can get used to. I've been on xanga for about....3 yrs i think but i've been gone for a looooong while. I love how its reeeally organized and how everything is at your fingertips but its crazy on the eyes which makes it crazy on the brain. After a few mins of adjusting you kinda get a headache; especially with that lilly white background. If we can adjust and modify this page (definitely at least a bk ground) then you might have solved a really big problem. Most ppl dont WANT to get used to the new controls, but they CAN. I just started back today about a minute ago so I'll comment on any other things that bug me, but for now i love it. I've always appreciated Facebook's set up, just STAY AWAY FROM THOSE DAMN APPS!! The vampires the ninjas, everything!! Cuz there just stupid. Next thing, it wouldn't have to be cluttered if u guys elongated it vertically. Also just remember that you dont have to make Xanga the ultimate blog. People like it for certain reasons, ppl like facebook, ppl like MySpace, and High5 for certain reasons. We like xanga cuz its personal, and simple to interact with. I like the new feel cuz i can be MYSELF, just a little more organized, but i hate the new look cuz "its not ME". I have a facebook account, but i use it to electronically connect with ppl i already know (like 3 of my hopefully life long friends that i've met on Xanga) but on xanga i get to know ppl and be part of something. And overall i want to meet ppl as ME and get to know them as who THEY are; and their page is the very first step....you cant take that away from us cuz Xanga wont be the same.

  • Wait a minute....do visitors still see our site the way we set it up in the past...cuz if they do then there is no problem. If we (the user) only see our sites like this during set up but its still viewed the same then tell everyone stop crying. But if eeeverything is going to be viewed the new way then see my comment above.  Xanga rulz and i'm happy to be back.

  • i absolutly love it

  • I really don't care for it too much.  Will we be able to use the old version instead?  It just seems like too much clutter for me and I really liked the old subscriptions page.

  • This is definitely much more user friendly than the other dashboard.  I really enjoy it!!!

  • I hate it. I use my site for blogging, and I like instant access to both what I posted and the feedback resulting from it. I can get my subscription updates in my daily Digest, and if I want to do it immediately it's not that hard. I'm not sure what I'd do if this becomes mandatory. I might change to Blogspot or something.

  • This needs to be optional.  I really already have a facebook, and this is unfortunately attempting the same thing and falling short.  I don't really like it at all.  I guess it's alright for putting everything on the same page, but I don't like it when compared to what I already have.

  • Keep it optional.  I don't like it at all.

  • i would prefer the older un-facebook version.
hopefully you guys can make this optional ^^

  • I give you all credit for always trying hard with Xanga.  But it seems that most every day, something is different.  We don't want Facebook.  We like Xanga.  I do not like this new feature, nor the new sub page!

  • I'm not sure I understand it since I don't have a Facebook, and I do like Xanga just the way it is.  Hope it remains optional.

  • Ugh, ugh, ugh. No. It's ugly, cluttered, and hard to navigate. What's wrong with the current layout anyway?

  • I don't like it at all.

  • Yeah, I definitely liked the 'old' homepage better.
Looks are a big deal, and this beta kind of makes it look like facebook or myspace. The reason why I still use xanga is because it's always kind of stayed the same, and not been as hyped up as all of the other websites. So why make it look like them?

  • It SUCKS!!!! Please don't force it on us!

    dan

  • The look isn't astounding but I like the functionality of how everything is grouped into one place. One thing that is neglected that I miss on this private site is Xanga Dash.

I also don't get the Your Site <Generating Image> thing. Maybe that function isn't complete yet bud it looks interesting.

Love the buttons on the top bar where we can get directly to where we want without having to load page after page to get there the long way! Also like the Weblog, Photo, etc. Buttons with pictures. Adds even quicker access for those of us who like big buttons.

Keep it up guys. I miss the Dash though! Would love to see the auto-Updating (or at least a link to it) of Dash on this page!

  • I don't like it. Like others said, it's too cluttered and I like to be able to see what my entry looks like to others. It's really simple now, and the new page looks too complicated. DON'T CHANGE IT XANGA!

  • not a big fan.

i personally have my xanga completely private- only visible to my sister.  it's more like a journal just for myself.  so i kinda like how it is now- kinda all about me.

soooo... if you're considering doing a complete changeover, try to incorporate a way that people like me can keep it centered on ourselves.  it's nice how i can just log on and it's like i opened up to my latest diary entry and can add a new one.  no fuss.

  • yea please make this feature optional, i want my own background. and same for the subscription page. I like the old style better. please make these features optional, not just for beta, but forever.

if i want the facebook look, i would go facebook. plus, i hate facebook

  • Hi John, I think it would be very nice, but I have one exception and that is Ilike to design my own "look and feel," and there does not seem a way to make it apply to the ne subs page.

  • sky=C+

    知道我係邊個A?

  • No offense, but I don't like it.  Too cluttered, too boilerplate.  I liked it the way it was.

  • why private page is different from public review?  design of private page is not what I want, and why i can only listen to my backgrond music in private page but can't in public review?

  • I HATE it!  It is too confusing and takes away all my personalization. :o P Please go back to the original!

  • I don't really care for it. I prefer the old system. I hope you keep the new system optional. By the way, I have been posting here at Xanga since 2002...and in age I am an "older" user...if that makes any difference in your consideration...

  • I came here because I could make the changes that face book and others don't opt to have (unless you know HTML)- even as nice as Multiply is-the ease of making the site look the way I want to, is why I stay here. Please- don't make me regret that!

  • I have to say that it's good and bad.  I like being able to see the updates of my friends, but I want my blog to be prominent, not in a little box on the side.  It would be nice to have a module on the side with the new updates from subs, so I don't have to go to another page to see who has updated.  Maybe put just the first sentence or so.  Like you have now, just not right in the middle.  I also like being able to adjust the colors, put in a background.  I don't care for the white.  I does remind me a lot of Facebook and MySpace.  I left both of them, because they aren't geared towards blogging and have too much junk on the private pages.  Very confusing!  I do like the buttons at the top to add blogs, pics and such.

  • I really like xanga the way it is now - it is not hard to see if any of my subscriptions have made a new entry anyway - I get an e-mail if they do.  I also get an e-mail if I get a comment.  That works just fine for me!!  I do NOT like myspace or facebook, so I definitely don't think you want to try to be like them.  I'm not really sure I see the point, anyway - is it hard to see new posts as things stand now?  Maybe I am missing something.  I don't see any need for this change, and I don't really like it, so please (as others have said) keep it optional!  Thanks for asking!

  • Ack! I took a look and IMMEDIATELY wanted my old page back! Please keep it optional! While others may like it, I really, really, REALLY detested it! I have a facebook, and I rarely use it. I have always liked Xanga best. I'm fairly adaptable, but too many changes, too quickly and just for the heck of it, well, it seems pointless to me to mess up a good thing.

  • It's a useful page, but I don't think it should be the default private page. For example it's almost impossible to edit old entries when this starts as my default private page because I have to be signed in to edit a page, but when I am signed in it goes to this new private page, and the only option on the drop down menu is to have a public preview. How about having this as an optional link to go to, like 'Private Browser rather then whenever I sign in, it goes to this?

If you do plan on having this as the default private page, don't take away the link to the old private page on the right hand side.

    -Heidi

  • :: in a nutshell ~
:: xanga's focus on the blogging is great. and i like to personalize my background.
:: MySpace pages can look cool and has become a nice music network. yet there's too much spam.
:: Facebook has some nice photos, music & movie features integrated, yet it's too closed off to anyone else. and it looks so boring - not personalizable except with the little dumb sheep tossing features (which are however a bit fun, heh)

    :: the details ~
:: i do like, for myself to see anyway, this new page's view
:: for someone coming to my page however, i do like the focus on the blog - how my site has always looked. in otherwords, of course the whole point here is to rant and this be where people come to read it
:: on myspace, i go to my site and it looks to me like it does to anyone else who visits it. it's cool to go to your site and see it like someone else does - with your blog (& pics/vids & junk) and other people's comments on your blog. with myspace, however, it's as if there is no blog - it's secondary, you have to look for it, if you even care.
:: but then, on myspace, when i click "home" it leads me to a "behind the scenes" view of my site (like you've done with this new layout).
:: the main benefit with that is some of the things we might want to keep for ourselves, like (private) messages to or from someone or comments on photos, or to keep track of who wants to join a blog. maintenance stuff.
:: we and our visitors may or may not want to see everything available on our site "all at once". facebook makes it to where you can click features open to view more. yet there's often too much and redundancy on the page. i prefer to focus everyone's atttention on my (visually personalized) blog, then pics and music up front, yet secondary to the blog. though i know people are going to want to see themselves on our front page also - for the networking (who gave eprops/comments).
:: what i have liked about myspace is the music network that it has become. thus a controllable music player is cool - one i can add to and visitors can turn off. i now have a dead one on my xanga cause it was too tedious to manage yet another site (mp3profiles.com), passwords etc!
:: my main xanga friend (doomsayer2001) has encouraged me to join the music site MOG, which is tempting, yet:
      1) i already have a myspace, facebook and xanga (i've been following my kids around from blog to blog - X to MS to FB)
      2) i'd rather have everything (including all my friends) integrated into one site
:: what i have liked about facebook is the integration of iLike and the movie features. facebook was supposed to be all about photos, thus the name, yet someone might not be able to tell that now. it seems it's more of a private networking site.
:: speaking of private, i like for just anyone to stop by or be able to find my site. yet i like the option of blocking too. though facebook is growing, it still seems too closed or private.
:: however for parents with younger kids, a privacy, filtering or limiting feature has become important.
:: i like the fact that xanga is a blog formost
:: the only good thing about blogging or making comments (notes i think they're called) on facebook is that a notice is sent to your email then you can go comment on that person's "note". this is similar to xanga. however i like the focus on the blog on the mainpage of my xanga. i think i also prefer xanga's subscription update emails.

:: ok, i think i've spent enough time on this
:: thanx, by the way xanga for what you do

  • Ok, I don't know if you'll see this with all of these comments, lol, but here are the reasons I don't like this:

    1. I can't find my private blogs.  You know, some people do still treat Xanga like a journal and keep everything private.  With this new page they won't be able to see their entries.

    2. I'm getting updates in the universal inbox from people I'm not subbed to. Sure, I'm friends with them but if I wanted updates I would have subbed to them.

2.A.  Which brings up something else.  Is there anyway I can just decline someone's friendship offer without giving them a reason?

    3. I want my home page to be the one I designed.  I made it for me, for me to look at. Sure, it's a simple layout but I like it.

    4. Where's "look and feel?"  With this new system will it be mandatory that we have to use themes? Will we no longer be able to code our sites?

Overall, this looks too much like Myspace and maybe facebook, but I haven't really looked into facebook that much so I really don't know about them.  I like Xanga because it's about blogging, not social networking.  You can already network, however Xanga is mainly for blogging and writers.  However, if you're looking for a way to make more money and compete better with the other social networking sites, this is one way to do it.

I do appreciate what you do for us and all of the hard work that goes into running Xanga.  This is just my opinion.

  • I don't like it. Part of the reason I put so much look into my look and feel is so that I can view my page, with the new one, I can't see it. Plus, it takes away the reason for people to need to go to their friend's pages, if you can read it and comment from the one page.

    Please, please make this optional.

  • If I wanted a facebook, I'd get one.

  • A suggestion?

    Make it optional.

That way you please the old timers like me and potential new bloggers.

    Best of both worlds.

  • Um, this could be me being blind, but make sure theres a link to the look and feel. The idea of possibly having the same them as someone else kind of makes my heart sink. This is xanga. We're writers. Individuality, remember? Let's not loose sight of the important stuff here.

  • And by them, I meant theme. Sorry for that typo.

  • Nice idea. But, I like Xanga... The new page looks too much like an attempt to be Facebook. It's nice, but not my thing. :)

  • It's not so great with all the messy links. Making the icons smaller can possibly get rid of the "clusteredness" that people mention. I also think Xanga can be a bit more original, instead of ripping the facebook layout, no?

  • thumbs down:)

  • not bad ! keep going man.

  • I think we should be able to choose easily between the 'old page' layout and the new one.  Can this option be made available?

  • No, I don't like it!! I want my background back. I will consider switch off my perimum if you don't make it optional!

  • i am definitely glad you'll be talking to the team about customization. it does seem very impersonal as other ppl mentioned. that's my main hang-up with it so far. i have no clue what the ppl who mentioned it being too wide meant... then again i have a wide screen, so maybe its ok for me because of that? i like the fact that there are easily visible links to everything (like posting pics and blog entries, as well as veiwing feedback and editing my profile.) i think once a customization feature is added, i will be more than happy to use this new layout option. (yes, i am one of the few who realize that this new look is optional... )

  • At first, I really did not like the page.  I have, however, come to like it. It is very clean looking and not so cluttered. It has everything I need in a very accessible place.  And it looks pretty too, that's always a plus! :)   I do think it'd be nice to have it be an option for those who enjoy the customization they created for their page.  I do agree with a previous comment that it would be very nice to be able to privitize more than one entry at a time.

  • It is a bit cluttered. Feels claustrophobic! Could get used to it, but not crazy about it. Too much information for those of us who want a simple private view, especially one that focuses on your own personal blog. This new view seems to focus on everything else except your personal blog. To sum it up, it's TMI, too much info!

  • it's so cluttered and annoying. it looks like facebook, when it turned into stalkbook. leave xanga the way it is.

  • I dislike it... please make it optional. I can't really navigate it.

  • Looks good to me - I am ready to try it!!

  • I think you guys are doing a good job. I've never commented to you. I've had a Xanga since sophomore year in high school (now freshman in college) and I don't think I'll ever not have a Xanga. You guys are the best. People who want simplicity need to choose Xanga. Simplicity and ease of use have kept me posting. I used to post every day, and it's fallen to less than a month. Currently, I guess I do about once a week. You guys have never pissed me off enough to make me delete this thing, which can't be said for MySpace. In fact, you guys have never pissed me off....you're always just there, so stable and careless.

I don't lean one way or the other on the new "private page" shit. Since everyone has left this site for MySpace and FaceBook, I only have 3 subscriptions now, one of which only posts about once a month. So the new private page is pointless for me. I just really love how you guys sought this feedback, responded well, and made this thing optional. They say you can't please everyone, but you guys come pretty damn close.

  • gay.

  • boo i like xanga the way it is

  • my first impressions was that I don't like the new format, I still prefer the old one (I'm old fashion), I guess it'll take me some times to get used to the new one if it does become compulsory.

  • I do not like it at all. Xanga is so perfect as it is. I can make my page look like me -- the way I want it.

  • please make this optional.

  • it looks so cool, i think its this great! : D

  • please just make it optional....xanga is special cause it is vastly different from all the other cookie cutter sites!!!

i love my xanga because it isnt as cluttered and redundant and lets just say it stupid as facebook and myspace!

so please dont ruin the awesomeness that is xanga!

  • There are no words to express how much I *do not* like this format.  I want the page I created, not an ugly, disfunctional poly-glot with no personality. Dump the idea.

  • Eh...it's ok.  What I don't like is an archive section...where I can go back and look at previous days or years entries.

  • I liked it when my own posts were the first thing I saw.  It is, after all, a blog.  Also, the colour scheme is way too much like facebook.  It's disconcerting and makes me feel like I stumbled on the wrong site by accident.
The different feeds are cluttered.  When I'm not posting an entry, what I want to look at are my subscriptions to my friends' posts and I like seeing the entire entry.  Back to the drawing board, please.

  • *pukes*
I get enough of that on Facebook.  I say forget it.  If people want it THAT badly, make it optional.  As far as I'm concerned, it's not worth it.  Gag!

  • I personally am not that fond of it. I will like to personalize my blog and if I use this beta version I doubt it will be "unique" anymore. It's good for those who doesn't really want to maintain thier pages but not good for those who wants to make it different. Leave it optional. You might get more users, but you will definately keep the old users by keeping the old version.

Just my opinion, nothing personal to the Xanga Team. Btw, you're doing a great job!

  • I like it!

  • It's way too cluttered and busy.  And I have a hard time managing my own entries if I can't see my entries prominently on the page, like it is on the old page.  For me, the emphasis should be on my entries, and being able to read my entries and edit them in one click.  Being able to know what my friends wrote or feedback they gave me should take a back seat.  I pay a subscription to fiest and foremost manage and publish my entries, not to have Xanga tell me what everyone else did.

  • This had better be optional!  i like seeing my page... if I want a bunch of links and information I'll go to my Facebook site instead.

Looks like most people agree with me... We like to see our sites... bloggers are creative people who like to see their creations in front of them and not a bunch of information.  Remember who you are catering to nd switch yourself to your right brain for a while and tell me you like this.

If it ends up as  mandatory thing I will really be regretting buying Lifetime from you!!!

STOP TRYING TO BE LIKE THE OTHERS... WE ARE HERE BECAUSE WE LIKE IT AND WANT TO BE HERE.  FACEBOOK WILL FADE AS MYSPACE ALREADY HAS, XANGA HAS STOOD THE TEST OF TIME ALREADY... RELAX!!!

  • i honestly hate the idea cause i can't view my other posts that are on private. i'm not using xanga themes either since the original xanga layout is the best. please keep these optional for eternity.

  • @starberri92 - YUCK! Where did my background go? I like xanga the way it is this is so ugly  keep the old stuff if u bring out the new let ppl choose.

  • a little busy

  • While it may not be pretty I love the functionality of it.  I hate having to check every page of my subscriptions to see if there are changes, so I love the new setup.

  • Is there a way to combine the two - the new page but with the customization of our old ones?  Mix the functionality with the individual creativity?

  • i love it =) but the only thing is the recent weblog box over on the left shows all my weblog entries [protected/private/pulic], but when i click to view them all it just shows me only my public. =(

  • I understand the original.  Make the other optional.  I thought I was stuck with the new page until after 3 days I found the link back.

  • Cluttered was my first thought.  I'm old and old fashioned I guess.  I don't like the "look" of the new features.  Thanks for keeping the original for us fogies.

  • Looks awesome to me! Fresh interesing. Awesome!

  • I'm sorry, but I don't think I could ever get used to that after the simplicity I've experienced with what is still on the home page of xanga.  Plus, I already miss the old read your subscriptions page layout that's been replaced :S

  • you should really consider making it optional.
what's the point in having two different looking pages?
it's too confusing, i miss the way Xanga used to be!

  • The icons are nice.  I would go with that.  But without being able to see it in the context of the way my home site is designed, it's hard to ascertain.  The way it is, it looks more cluttered.  I like the way my current site look has just what I want and need.  No cluttering.  Also, please don't make this a change from XP to Vista sort of thing.  Why change things around so drastically.  Like XP to Vista, Vista seems like there is more clicking involved to get to the same place in XP.  I hope you can truly make the new Xanga simpler.  Otherwise, from another developer/QA, I would return this for more instrospective.

  • I this it's well-designed. But honestly, when I come to Xanga, I just want to see my blog. I think this new page can be a useful tool, but I don't want to look at it right away. I want to have to click somthing to get there.

Thanks for always working to make the site better.

  • not bad but in terms of its convenience but overall i have to say i prefer my own page...:)

  • any chance of making access to looking up and posting of already downloaded pictures more folder based with mini thumbnail previews?  it's very hard to find and post a picture in an entry if i uploaded it a few months ago to my album.

  • For a private home page I like the beta better than what I have, but I'm new to Xanga, and I never really got "used to" the original one.  HOWEVER... if it dinks with the way my public view looks, with my theme and all that, I'm with a lot of the other people who left comments...  I worked pretty hard to get it to look just the way it looks, and I really like it just as it is.  Also, I'm new here, so I'll just join the community and back the Xanga old timers, and just say leave it be.  To me... six of one, half a dozen of the other.  I'm not sure why you'd want to change anything.  If it aint broke, don't fix it.

If it matters, I left Myspace and Facebook for Yahoo 360.  Yahoo 360 is calm, quiet, uncomplicated, but not easy to personalize and frankly, boring.  Then I found Xanga.  I like Xanga much, much better than any of the others.  It's neat and tidy, it's easy to make it personal, to the point, but customizable.  It doesn't "feel" as juvenile as the others, and since I'm not 15 that means something to me.

    My 2.

  • I don't really care for it. I like the design I've come up for my Xanga and I never have a problem navigating. Please make this an optional thing, I might stop using Xanga if it becomes permanent.

  • I think I will stick to my personal page as long as it is optional.  I can get used to the other, if needed.  I just learned how to do triples, so am happy with my new backgrounds.  I am looking forward to what customizations you will try for the new page.  Appreciate you trying to please us here.  :)

Someone wonders if we are narcistic wanting to always view our own pages. Maybe ;) , but I know I catch my typos better when seen as others do.  I do not always remember the spell check.  Now THAT is a great feature.

    Thanks for your hard work.

  • i lake it but i got rend of it by actuate

  • i don't like the layout at all.  i think the layout undermines the whole experience of writing by diminishing it's importance.  in my opinion, the entry should take center stage. and if you decide to put in a feed, make it a side bar.  this thing is redundant, clutters the page, and is a total information overload.

the feed does add a little something extra to blogging, but its benefits do not outweigh the cost.

  • Not liking it much, sorry.  Simple is better, the new page layout is definately not simple.

  • Is is AWEFUL!!! And impossible to navigate. I hate it. Please make it optional.

  • It seems difficult to navigate and loses the 'personal' of the old style. I really didn't care for it.

THANK YOU however for ALL the things you get so right and for working as hard as you people do to make this fun and useful for all of us

  • I have to say, I hate it, too.

I absolutely HATE facebook and its beyond frustrating to me that MySpace is starting to lean that way and now Xanga!  This is my BLOG if I wanted it to be MySpace or Facebook, I'd go there instead!

Technically, its a lovely piece of work, but not what I want my xanga to be!

  • Xanga's ignorance about what thier customers actually want is truly breathtaking.

  • Cool and neat. I like everything in one place!

  • Yeah...I don't think I'll be keeping the new version.  I want to be able to review *my* posts when I'm logged into Xanga, not a list of my friends' post titles - when I'm ready to move on to reading subscriptions, I will go to the appropriate page.  I like it that way.  As for stats, I can already see those on my private home page already, and thanks to the handy little number in (bold parentheses), I know if I have new messages or friend requests.

  • After looking through it and finding everything I have to say that I really like it. I like that you can see everyone's updates on one page. That saves clicking on blogrings individually. It's sort of like your friend's page on LJ which I like. It simply saves time when you can see all updates together. This private page should be optional though since the other way seems to work just fine as well.

  • I like it, but I think it should be possible to choose what stories to show and not in the 'show all' thingy. Like, a scheme where you could cross off if you didn't want to see any stories from a certain person, or didn't want your friends' picture uploads to show up?

  • I haven't tried it and don't intend to.  I HATE changes!     Keep things as they are!

  • @Lady_Jasmine -

I agree that it's cluttered and impossible to navigate. Make it simple and clean, that's all it should be.

  • tis quite annoying i like the old way better...this one looks just like myspace...and i HATE there welcome page with a passion.

  • I hated it at first, but I really honestly feel I could get used to it.  It's a huge improvement.

  • I think it's great, except I want to be able to have my own layout on my page

  • I like it! Well done!

  • I like the way it's always been, this is confusing and there is way too may things to click it makes my head spin. I like the old page so that I can keep my own themes and view my recent blog posts instead of my friends' activity.

  • Why can't I use the old layouts in my custome module?? Why is that all of a sudden a premium feature?? I miss the old xanga.

  • All right already... It is not as bad as I originally thought. I actually like the universal inbox. It is very handy!

    dan

  • It really does remind me too much of Facebook.
Not that I have anything against Facebook; I just don't want my Facebook and my Xanga mixing.

    Optional, please.

  • I have two premium Xanga's and have been around for more than a few years. I personally do not like it. The way it is now is easy, uncluttered, and functional. Please do not change it. I have tried other blogs and have remained with only Xanga because I like it the way it is now!!

Why did you add the universal inbox, where it shows every one of your subscriptions on the private page? We can get that via e-mail so to me its unnecessary and adds clutter I do not want. I liked that we could have our private page look the way 'we' want it to look like without all that other jazzed up stuff. Personally, you guys, though you are doing a terrific job, you do not need to do this. If you keep it optional I will never, ever use it. If you switch it to a global change I can not say that I will keep two premium accounts with Xanga. New things are always difficult to switch to I understand that. But this switch isn't a good one in my opinion.

What is cool though is that you are asking for feedback from us. Very cool. Keep up the good work but please do not let this become more than an optional choice.. please?

  • I like the new format for the most part, but I can't work out how do you edit old blogs from it.  Had to go back to old format.

  • I have Protected and Private posts so this format won't work for me at all!  I would like to be able to switch to the new format, however, to check on recent activity.  PLEASE make it optional and not the default private page!

  • I  tried it out again, I think it's starting to grow on me.  *sheepish grin*

  • but can you make a space for the suhock "stalker" box?  It catches some visitors that xanga doesn't.
    http://suhock.net/xanga/xasm.html

  • I took one look and went back to the old one.  I didn't see a posting calendar on the new one.  That is one feature I would be lost without, since I so frequently have to refer back to old posts, especially the memoir episodes, and don't always have links to them.

  • I don't like the layout and it is hard to adapt.  Give us more introdutions, please.

  • Well  dude , it's very useful that it indicates all stuff that yourself or your firends just update or their status , but it  a little bit boring that the style is so blank.
Anyway, for the user who lazy to check blog or want to check out pals' updated status without too much clicking, it is the best choice.

  • I think I like the old one better.....

  • I hope this will be always optional. When I decided to blog, the one thing I wanted was simplicity. I didn't want to spend a lot of time on making it "snazzy". I wanted to keep it simple. I like my Xanga just the way it is , mainly text focused and with my choice of colors, etc. I agree with others who see no need to change.

  • I'm also not a fan of this view either. I like it the way it is right now and I think it should continue to be an option. Especially since so many of us that commented here don't really care for it. It does look a lot like Facebook and the way Myspace is set up. If I wanted that I would just use their journals. I like Xanga for being unique and doing it's own thing, not looking like Facebook or something else similar. Please let this be an option!!

  • I didn't like it. It's too much like myspace...I like how the xanga subs field is now, because you can actually read the blog without clicking on a link. However, I do like the comment section- and the left side  module, but  I agree with everyone who said  that everything does seem cluttered and bunched in together....I know this is beta, but I do agree that this should be made optional-like the new themes look.  The old way does not need fixing. :) What I like about Xana is that it's not myspace.

  • The new thing reminds me too much of facebook and myspace. I have each, and none of them are connected with my xanga.

    For a reason.

  • The positive and the negative: I like that we have a way to see what our xanga friends are doing with the new feed...

however, I prefer having our own posts central to the private site rather than seeing what other people are doing.

It would be better to place the feed in a side module (perhaps expandable even) and then all posts could be central. As it stands, our posts our reduced to a few words in a title and shunted off to the side with no relation to how they look on the public site.

One thing that was irreplaceable in the old format was that one could see how his or her post more or less looked in the context of his or her own site and if something didn't look quite right or there was an error, spotting and changing would be a simple click. Now to actually see what the posts look like I would have to go all the way to my public profile, look at it there, and then return to my private profile to make the neccesary change.

Perhaps if the modules and the background of the new private page could be derived from the look on the public page it would be an improvement

The merit of Xanga has always been the centrality of the blog post and that centrality should never give way.

  • Good morning, John!  OK, I've given this new format a fair trial, and I have to admit that I am starting to like it...a lot!  It keeps me from missing stuff, and I like the way it takes me right to someone's photoblog when they post a new pic.

I hope you keep the option of going to the old Private Page, though.

  • I don't know if this has been mentioned since I haven't read all of the nearly 500 posts, but I can't seem to find any way to actual control my site with the beta home page. I can't even find simple options such as the privacy settings.

  • Ok nevermind. I found it. Sorry.

  • i actually kinda like it. yeah, i feel like a traitor or something but i'm bad about commenting so i find this helps.... but i agree some color would be nice.....

  • is there any way to view the content of the 'old homepage' while looking at the 'new homepage'?  I could not figure it out.  if you make that clear then i am ok with it.

  • I cannot describe how much I HATE the new format.

So I'll just leave it at that. PLEASE do not force the new format on us. I have two pages and the older one stayed the way it was. As SOON as I figured out how to put the newer one back on the old format, I did. I would rather cancel BOTH pages than have to deal with the new format. PLEASE don't make us use it!

  • It's nice to have everything in one place, but on the whole, I agree with others here that the layout is simply too cluttered. It needs better organization and more focus.

  • the new page sucks.

even if you decide to shit on those of us who like the old version by moving to the new, would you at least keep the old version as an option? and get rid of minis while you're at it.

  • As a general rule I like it.

I LOVE the universal inbox. It makes it easy to keep up. One thing that bothers me though is that it doesn't show that a Protected Post is up. Am I doing something wrong??

  • I love it! So much easier. Please don't take my new easy Xanga away!

  • the current private home now has everything i need- a private view of my bog, links to edit and create, and a link that goes towards my subscriptions.

i'm very much missing the xanga of 2005- now there's just a bunch of crap i don't need: if i want photos in my blog, i'll post them directly into my blog. as was said by some of my fellows, xanga is not a social networking site, which is precisely why i love it. let us be able to keep it that way if we want to, guys.

  • oh, and by "now", i mean the original version. simplicity is zen.

  • "We're going to be careful not to clutter your feeds with crap like sheep and vampires.."

    hahahaha!!!

  • Sorry Xanga, I'm not liking it...

  • I'm not liking it. I know Xanga is trying to be all new and fresh and whatnot...but...ick.
I've been here since 2003 and the recent changes are the only time I can say that I feel like Xanga has missed the mark. I had a MySpace and a Facebook account and hated them. Please make all this nonsense optional - some of us are here still because we like the way things have been, not the way MySpace and Facebook are.

  • it's confusing and very cluttered.  the addition of blog details is distracting.  the left hand column has too much data

  • Facebook and MySpace are popular because they do what they do, and they do it well. Those of us who still use Xanga mostly use it because we prefer the style and the feel of our own pages, without the hassle of creating our own blogs. So maybe some people prefer the Facebook/MySpace feel, but give us an option to retain the old feel of Xanga, if nothing but to satiate nostalgia.

  • There is no link to edit my private readers on this format. I had to switch back to edit those. Other than that Its better and I like it!

  • It's cool! The add stuff at the top...

that would make a great firefox add on/toolbar for other browsers...

    <3

  • I recall a rendition of this where the entry was more evident (right now the tiny image on the left isn't showing anything. If the new themes are required for that use then I am going to be out of luck there as a user.)  I thought it was in the right hand side last time and larger. In any event this is not content friendly. There is too much redundancy with the sub browser and lots of wasted space. Instead of simplified, it looks cold and still cluttered oddly. It promotes a quick forget attitude and that may or may not be helpful to some, but as a tool for communication and for the empowerment of people in general, it is not a plus. The old "if we do not learn from history we are doomed to repeat it " comes to mind. The blog has lost a bit of is conscience. Yes, it's due to user laziness the public page is a click away, and that is more work and less user friendly.

Messages get mixed with posts and other things because there is nothing to set them apart.  Side note on messages: A real improvement would be the delete function on messages working well. As is it is a huge time waster to delete things as it often takes several deletions to clear a message thread.

I like the new icons for adding things. Cute!

Another improvement side note would be to enable some sort of podcasting with videos. I do not know if that is an option but it is the main reason I do not post my videos here. If I could submit them to iTunes through Xanga I wouldn't have to use Blip.tv.

I wonder why Xanga is trying to beat Facebook instead of acting in a symbiotic way with it.  Flogblog might let blogs be double posted there and if vids could be shared that would be awesome too.  The only reasons I go there are because people who've been stalked out of Xanga go there for privacy and I can play scrabble with them (that's one addicting app because you actually can interact with people and DO something), there is more privacy involved (hahahaha if you don't count the government) and people from other blog places are there as well.  Also, if we could edit what appears in our universal feed like there that would be very useful.

The winner of the social net game will be the one that is most inclusive and amenable to other social nets to really allow for communities to build and collaborations to happen across venues. (To actually accomplish things with people will win as it has the intrinsic punch and the extrinsic nods. No place does that anymore . . .yet.) I think it would be excellent for Xanga as once people realize they can get anywhere from here, they will like it here best. As it is, it's getting pretty small townish. The private page brings that to the fore even more. How cool would it be if all the blogs I sub to were in the feed and not just xangan ones? That would be awesome. It would not only take the place of bookmark organizers like delicious (and give Google reader a run too), it would cause me to spend more time here and link to here more often. Of course some sort of color difference in line would be cool for that as it would be excellent right now to differentiate between things in the feed.

So far, this appears to be a fix for something that wasn't broken while other things not working to great functionality aren't being addressed.

I would so love for Xanga to become something that doesn't scare other people off. So far it does for many. The open comments have helped some though. Still, I am more likely to get a message about a post from here through other venues from outsiders than I am through Xanga itself.  When I ask about it, they just do not feel comfortable here. They feel like they're intruding.  Exclusivity is a double edged sword, but as things are going it is tending to slice for more inclusion.

I still do not want to move from Xanga. I still think it is the best and the easiest to use, but that can change as functionality, communication and use become more confused, limiting or worky.

  • ^That being said. I do appreciate the constant work for improvement. I know it doesn't sound like it, but I really do.

  • I like it!  Keep it!

  • I spent five minutes trying to figure out how to write a new post.  Clearly the new private page is not user friendly.  I ended up clicking back to the old private page because I knew how to create a post on that page.

  • I can tolerate this. I actually like being able to see all my subscriptions and feeds. That's pretty neat, but the difficult part is navigating. Not very user friendly since everything is hidden within menus.

Another thing, where is the menu that allows me to edit my own Xanga skin? All I see is for me to choose a theme. Did I miss it somewhere in all this clutter?

  • MAKE IT OPTIONAL!!

  • How would you edit the 'look and feel' to your page? I couldn't find it any where.

  • I really like the new private page. Everything is much more organized and right there. Thanks.

  • i don't understand...:(

  • it kinda looks like the new myspace private interface, which sucks, because i spent so much god damn time to fix it up to look cool. now all i see is the damn interface. IT SUCKS! why not improve on making the side panels better.. like you can be able to move it around and it shows more details instead of all the useless boxes that you have to scroll through.

maybe better mini boxes, or you can just give minis without leaving a comment. or could eliminate useless functions.

PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THIS LOOK LIKE FREAKING FACEBOOK/MYSPACE! it's boring as hell when they both look alike.. i love xanga coz it's just so different.

  • It seems that I can't return to the old one*

  • It's too ugly and difficult to use

and I think the old one is better

  • I dislike it. Even if the feeds are more content-focused, it still smacks of myspace and facebook. I'm a stickler for the old layout.

  • This is SO UGLY. Why would I want my page to look
like this after I spend hours changing and perfecting
my page. This is NOT cool at all.

  • I prefer the old private page, its easier to use and suits better to our personality, once we've made it according to ourself. I agree with ScorpioParadise,  i would join myspace and facebook if i had wanted a  homepage that looks like that.

  • if you're going to keep it, you should consider making the thing more easy to navigate.  Hard to make things public/private with postings and also to read your page as well as others.

  • I got on Facebook, and it made me sick.  The repeated intrusions on my space were most annoying.  If you change Xanga to even remotely resemble Facebook, I will have to shop for another blog, and I would feel a bit cheated, after having invested 100 dollars for a lifetime premium, thinking I what I saw was what I got.

    Love, Padooker

  • May want to put some text under your new icons stating what each icon is for.  I was pretty confused when I first saw the page cause there really wasn't a notification on the page on the changes, ect... It's in small print!  It took me a while to figure out how to post things.

  • this is soooo beyond confusing for beginners.. i had a xanga years ago and just never had the time for the computer at the time, but i come back tonight and was surprised and happy to see the new thing going on, but when i clicked it to change to the new xanga i was soooo confused.. i couldnt figure out for the life of me how to get a a default picture up..  its nice but make it a little more beginner friendly

  • i like it=] it's very facility.

  • I dont like it either.

Give us our old private home thingy back!

  • How do I edit the look and feel of the page using this new private mode??

  • I agree with most other users. Please make this new change optional.

  • Its too confusing and cluttered. I think I'll stick to the old version. But I still love u Xanga guys!

  • I do not care for it at all!  I took a lot of time to design my page and I want to see that.  I still cannot figure out Themes ~ opened another site to practice on, have spent way too much time and find it really unwieldy ~ can't even figure out how to get the header the way I want it and just gave up.  So I'm sticking with the tried and true that I understand.  Actually, I think the new page is rather ugly ~ where is the personality in that?  Please do NOT make it mandatory ~ I would be very disappointed.

  • I HATE it!!!  Please make so that at least we can choose if we want it.  I think it sucks and I want my page the way I have it.

  • Don't really like it.
    Please make it optional.

  • This new page is complete and utter garbage.

  • Tag cloud, please.  Also, a means of displaying a cloud from the public page would be nice.  But for the private home page, the top tags cloud is indespensible for quick categorical searches.

  • I'm not really big on the new layout. I liked being able to see my own posts, esp the protected/private ones. I think there should be a tab that allows me to see that. It's clean though, so that's good. But I think there's too much going on. It's something that I could get used to, but I'd rather just stick to the old view.

  • I hate it. I have Facebook already, and I choose to use Xanga much more often.  The last time I posted on Facebook is in September, because I don't like the way that site is run.

I also agree with Lady Jasmine, make it optional and I like personalizing my page with the header and colors I want.  Not stark white.

  • I prefer Xanga the way it is and personally do not like the new look. Please make this optional. It is cluttered enough that my first response was that if this is a mandatory change, I will stop using Xanga.

  • Neopets did something similar about a year ago, redoing everything and changing the focus of their site. I up and left after having been a part of their community for over five years. That means I started when I was 11 and was was with them until I was 17. Don't think that I and a bunch of other people won't do the same thing to Xanga.

I will not try it out for a couple of weeks because I can't do the shit that I want to do with it. I like to see my page as everyone else is going to see it because that way, I know when I've had the same song playing for too long or when I posted something that sounds really stupid at four am the night before.

Do whatever you want, but make it optional.

Don't begin to tell me that this new page is content-based. It's not. It's about the messages and the subscriptions and shit, not MY content and not what I'm concerned about posting, really. If I wanted a site that told me on my front page in big letters when I got a new message, I'd re-establish myself on Myspace.

Don't try to be like the popular sites. You're not competing with Myspace and Facebook, you're getting a lot of the people who hate them.

I never complained about themes because those didn't effect me, but I'm complaining about this because, as Lady Jasmine said, you're talking as if you plan on making this mandatory at some point in the future. That unnerves me.

  • I don't spend all of that time customizing my site so that I won't see it every time I log in.

You know, back in '05, when I started Highschool, Xanga was not blocked to our school computers. Myspace was blocked as a "personal networking site" and so was Facebook when that stepped into popularity. I'm not a social person, so that didn't bother me at all.

Sure enough, in my senior year, Xanga is blocked. Why? "Personal networking site"

Seeing the title of my weblogs and not the actual entry is totally NOT content based. It's actually quite the opposite. So is seeing a white screen when I spent so much time colorizing my page to be what I like.

Make it optional. There are people who apprarently use Xanga to be social but for those of us who care more about our posts than our subscriptions make it optional.

  • In response to Pyro, I was also a Neopets person and I pulled out same time, same reason! I'd been on since 5th grade and it broke my heart to leave, but it was okay because I still had Xanga and they make all of their dumber new features completely optional.

  • I don't like it -- I don't like just having snipets of everything people have done. I much prefer having the subscriptions page, so it's all there and I can read everything without having to click twenty times. If you're going to change the opening page, why make it look MORE like what our xanga actually looks like? When I switched to themes it always bugged me because I forgot what my page looks like.

  • Not diggin' it at all, I prefer to see my own stuff first because the first thing I do is post a new blog, and I rarely wander around looking at anything else. I REALLY hope this remains an OPTION. Your hardwork is ALWAYS appreciated though, we should all realize that it's not easy to please everyone.

    :]

  • I really hate it!  It's cluttered and hard to find anything on.  I'd MUCH rather the old page!  If anything you should give a choice between the two and not force us all to go to the new page.  the new page looks too much like MySpace to me.

  • It took me *ages* to find the link to switch it back.  Please, guys, never make this the only choice, it's horrific.  That's twice in fewer than twenty four hours Xanga changes have made me want to punch the screen in horror, and I really, really love my laptop, so it takes a lot for that to happen.

  • I dont like it. I like the old way.

  • I HATE IT!!!! I WANT PEOPLE TO SEE WHAT I WANT THEM TO SEE NOT HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THE FREAKING LAYOUTS THAT YOU HAVE!!! I LIKE BEING ABLE TO CHOOSE WHAT I WANT IT TO LOOK LIKE!!! MY OLD PRIVATE HOME IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE NEW ONE!!! PLEASE LET IT BE OPTIONAL!!!! PLEASE!!!!

  • I detest it

come on stop trying to be like all the other dumb sites

I personally use xanga because it is not like myspace and facebook. I loathe those two sites with a burning passion.

Please keep it optional because I love my xanga!

  • I like how everything is in one place. I like the way it's organized. I think it could be better though if the user could personalize a simple color scheme for it.

Keep up the good work, you guys! Xanga still has the best community on the web.

  • I hate it.  It's not intuitive.  I can't even figure out how to post a blog.  back to basics means intuitive-use should be the first primary goal.

  • Hey, it's great that you guys are trying out new things. But at the moment I still like the older layout more. :)

  • I rather the old page where I could read all my subs on one page.

  • i like it alot better !

it makes xanga more interesting and unique. and cool looking.

    good job xanga..you did good

  • I tried this feature out for a week or two, and I personally dislike it. I don't like the fact that I can't see my blog right when I log in, I don't like how hard it is to view the private entries I've made, I don't like having to see all the "pulses" people have posted -- I just want to read their blogs when I choose to (via the subscriptions link), and not any time else!

I think this was a good idea in theory, but...I'm sorry, I just don't like it!

  • Seriously? It's... wierd! and really awful. Sorry, it just is!!!!!

  • I'd rather just have my theme carry over to my private page. . .

  • I think its great as a personal home page but... how in the world do you get to the "look and feel" page? I just cannot find it... so I have to switch back to the old home page just to edit the html. Thanks.

    Jason

  • There's no look and feel?

  • How do I change it back? :( I miss old Xanga

  • Xanga dash sucks as does this new interface. Stop it with your reinventing of the wheel.  And for future reference, don't force the new interface on your users and inconvenience them to switching back to the original. Instead, leave it alone and let them decide to try the new interface.

Other notes, credits and minis are stupid. So were the sprite-head basketball things. And the whisper option. Also the pop ups and sidebar ads are annoying. I'll live with the sidebar ads I suppose. You guys need the funding, so I guess it must come from somewhere.

Maybe I'm just old school, but I just liked plain ol' eprops, user-choice featured content, and fewer (much fewer) bells and whistles. Oh and back in the day it was much easier to search for a user. All one needed to do was just type part of the xanga handle and they'd get a list of similar users to browse through until they found their match.

Seriously. What is the point of the minis???

  • Instead of me just offering criticism and no solutions, here's an idea.

Quit pissing off your users and start rewarding them.
For instance: the pyramid scheme. It works pretty well. Reward your users for referrals. For every referral they get a month of premium. You know. Something cool like that. This benefits everyone.

What else? Here's an idea for advertisement. You know those stupid surveys that advertising agencies ask people to fill out, and they pay you? Feature one a month. Ask users to fill it out, and if they do - premium. or you can use this new credit system to do something similar. If someone earns enough credits they can go to premium.

Or here's one that might appeal to an older crowd. Let us buy a spot on featured content. We can earn credits and cash them in for a spot on the home page.

Seriously. Make US work for you. Make US happy. Give kids something to do with their blog other than gripe about school and how sucky your new interface is. Let's do something constructive.

  • Simple is cool. I like the old way by far.

  • There's too many words around. Feels messy.

  • There is nothing about this that is "back to basics" or "making blogging more fun".  This is a push to make Xanga no longer a weblog site and into a Facebook/Myspace social site.  I joined Xanga 4 years ago because it was a simple blogging site where I could journal and write and be myself without having to worry about what everyone else thought.  I don't have any subscriptions and I don't want any!  There's nothing in my inbox, my feedback log is a string of zeros, I have no blogrings, and that's how I want it.  But that is all that is showing on this new page, my blog is barely one teensy tiny little box on the side of this vast expanse of white nothing.  I don't want to add stuff or subscribe to other's blogs, and I don't want to stare at white.  I got my site set up the way I wanted it and I'd like to see what I did!  Not just in the public preview page, but on MY page.  Gee what a strange request... I want MY page to show MY settings.   If I wanted to belong to a social networking site, I would have joined one of those.  If you can't make this go away, at least make it optional please.

  • I'd prefer the old private xanga, but keep it optional for others. Thanks though...

  • I prefer it the old way. Can you just make it optional? I might get around to changing someday, but I don't like change forced on me. I kind of like having all my info on the same page as my blog posts.

  • it looks interesting but i had GREAT difficulty in trying to look at old private entries.. There is no calendar or link to go back and look at older entries unless you're on public view.. but then what if the entries are private...
    -adieu, stace

    i prefer the old layout

  • I found it too hard to change themes.  I lost my latest post somehow. I think it is hidden somewhere.  Too much clutter.

  • I really like the "old" one better.  I think Xanga is more for real blogging and Myspace and Facebook are for...well...I don't really know maybe playing around but I wouldn't post Blog entries on Myspace or Facebook.  I really like Xanga the way it is. Thanks.

  • DON'T LIKE IT...it looks boring..and cluttered.

  • i dont like it at allll

because whenever i try to make my public profile the way i want it doesnt work!

    helppppp :(

  • I hate it, I have a Facebook, I don't want another!

  • I used it for a few days and went back to the old one because I could not figure out how to goback and edit a post back in 2004.

  • My screen's at the proper resolution for the new page, so having to horizontally scroll wasn't a problem for me.

I like all the features on the new page, but I'm very comfortable with the old format so I'd like the option to stick with it and switch at any time.
"Everything should be fine if I can choose where to go first and switch between them very quickly." -redrabbit1

I would like the ability to change colors and background images like I do with the old format.  I would also like to have collapsible and moveable modules with the different features inside.  Then I might switch to the new one.

  • Nice! I like it!

  • i'm starting to use it^^

  • i think the old one is better, btw, i find there's no way to reach the old one in the new private page and it makes me confused!

  • I DONT NOT LIKE THE NEW PRIVATE LAYOUT!!

I DONT NOT LIKE THE NEW PRIVATE LAYOUT!!

I DONT NOT LIKE THE NEW PRIVATE LAYOUT!!

I DONT NOT LIKE THE NEW PRIVATE LAYOUT!!

Further more, it seems we have no control who can subscribe us... can add a new function in which we could click out the subscribers who I dont like??

  • it seems to be convenient to review most of the things but it can't let me preview my public site effect, I don't like it so much, I will continue to use the old version instead.

  • I hate this new home page -- I want to go to my private home when I click on my own name -- not to that overly cluttered page with horrible pop-up menus.  I don't want to focus on "content at Xanga" -- EEEEEEEEK!  Make it stop.

I would like to be able to customize where that link takes me, thanks.

  • I'm not too crazy about the new private page.  Also, I am not able to see my Anti-Stalker (suhock.net) module on the new page...and, as much as I like the new Footprints, it doesn't catch all visitors!

I agree with the others, please keep the new page as optional!

  • I don't want it... its too cluttered. I like it nice and simple. Easy layout easy on the eyes. Simple, clean, yet chic please keep it the way it was.

  • i prefer the old one. i noticed it's missing the calendar feature where you can pick a date way in the past to look at your old blogs... that way i don't have to go, next > next > next > next...
also, i couldn't find the link to request for my entries to be archived. either that or i didn't look hard enough.

  • I must be odd, I love the new home page. But then i pick new things up real fast, and have always enjoyed doing it.

Make the new page the default on all new xangas and keep it an option on the old ones. Old xanga will slowly wither on the vine as people slowly get used to it.

  • @juiru -

It is still there, at the bottom of your blog. Click "view all weblogs" you will see the calender

  • Pardon me, but I despise all of the changes Xanga keeps making and trying to force on users. Stop it already or I'm going to hang out somewhere else.

    can it be optional?? please??

  • Tried it, hated it. I read my subs right off the SIRs page, rarely popping into their sites which leaves footprints and makes me feel the need to comment. I agree, it's a bit "busy" for me too. I'll stick with the old one.....not to show my age or anything, but if it ain't broke why always fix it?

  • Wow! Hard to believe the madness is only one month away, Cat wait till the games begin, I am also counting on making a little extra cash on the side betting on them, the last 2 years have been good to me and I have made a little extra at wagerweb.com March Madness hope I make it a lucky 3 this year

  • i like it. i don't enjoy the tons of links on the left hand side of my home-page. too much scrolling...

  • hey its way to wide optional please=]

  • how to return the old one ? I want to move out of the premium page @home

  • I think it's good

  • I really dont like it...this new xanga is too confusing, seriously...do what everyone is asking and please dont be like Myspace or Facebook...>.>...

  • cool
    but it's too wide

  • I tried it for a while, but today when I had to clicked buttons erroneously to find my Look & Feel page (I clicked on Settings), I switched back..

I also liked my old private view because I can see what it looks like in public view (without having to go on public page) and click the edit button immediately.

Please do keep it optional.. forever..

  • It's quite cool~I'll try to get use to it!

  • but I like to use my old private view better coz everything is much clearer and I can see my public/protected blogs easily.....the new one just seems too be a bit confusing...

  • I hate it. Bring back the simplicity of xanga.

  • i think its fine...it would be neat if the background and font settings

we set up for the public preview would also control the private page,

that way it has more of a personal touch.

  • Too Crowded, too much information flying at me at once.  Too damned EmptySpace.  I am here at Xanga precisely because I don't like EmptySpace so for the love of Xanga....please stop trying to copy them!

  • I started out with the new version as that seems to be the default for new users.  Then I found the old version.  The emphasis is completely different, from the old site which emphasized my blog, the the new one which emphasized clutter (I guess... I am not sure what exactly the "improvements" are).  I am trying to figure out how to set my default to the old style, but cannot figure out how.

  • its look cool -)

  • I like the new home page...but I found that I was missing post from my friends who post them as private....am I missing something?

  • Not a fan of it.

Thanks for making it optional. :)

  • I didn't see where my page was on this "new frontpage." I can't even work on my site if I don't see what it looks like, now. I'd like to be able to see my last post to know when the last time I'd logged in was... truly, thoguh your work is very appreciated I believe you should give an option for people like me, who are concerned with it being content-based and perhaps leave the new garbage as an option for those of us who should truly be on MySpace or Facebook, not Xanga, and are only concerned with keeping in touch with friends.

  • I don't like it.

  • Well that was really stupid.

Why would I want my private page to be blank with my entries in a sidebar?

  • i think its abosolutly terrible. i love my page the way it is, and if i was ever forced to use the new format, i would never use xanga again.

  • IS THER ANY WAY TO MAKE IT EASIER TO SWITCH TO THEMES AND OLD XANGA Cause I like THE OLD XANGA IN THE SENSE I CAN ADD MY OWN PERSONAL TOUCHES TO IT!!! But The themes are nice too... I DON WANT IT TO BE PERMANENT THAT I CAN NOT SWITCH BACK.. And it is complicated...

I GOT STUCK IN THEMES.. AND COULD NOT GET MY PLAYLIST OFF THE TOP CAUSE IT CLASHED WITH THE THEME AND IT WAS LIKE THE LOOK AND FEEL SECTION DISAPPEARED AND I COULD NOT DO NOTHING ABOUT IT!!!!!!!

I like it but if somehow it could be made easier to swtich back and forth.... for more versitality and option!!!????

  • I don't like it. I use themes and then put stuff on my private page that's just for me to see. With this I can't see those things so I switched back. Please keep this optional so those of us that don't like it don't have to use it.

  • I said it once before, but I'd like to say it again...

It sucks.  Please, please, please... if you keep this crap, make it optional!!!

  • I will be honest and say that I hate the new look. It's cluttered and it's like Xanga is trying to be the next myspace/facebook/livejournal/WHATEVER all in one.

I was okay with what we had before. But for the first time, I was actually stumped on how to add a new weblog entry.

I prefer simplicity, like other people before me have already stated. You should at least provide an option we can check off that disables the new private page and keeps the old one instead. The link is okay, but it's annoying to be clicking it every time.

This isn't convenient. All these new additions are actually pushing me away from Xanga. And I know I'm speaking for more people than just myself.

  • hate it

  • this is VERY frustrating. Please make it optional and remove it ASAP. I dont like the way it complicates me and those "detailed" widows is SLOW AS HELL.

  • i can probably dig it. initially it looked like sensory overload, but upon closer inspection it's everything i wanted to see. just don't overdo it (e.g. feature spotlight).

  • I honestly HATE the new version. I wanted to go to the Look and Feel to make some changes but I couldn't find it anywhere, instead I would need to go to Setting-->Help-->Look and feel-->click on the link in the "Answer" section. Based on the Help/FAQ I thought there was something wrong with the HTML codes I had in the setting, which made the Look and Feel link disappeared, but I guess I just didn't know where to look for... In the original simple version, the Look and Feel link is just right there on the left hand side, super easy and simple.

  • I though I was at my Facebook account, which I very rarely visit.  Too cluttered, too impersonal.  Please make this optional.  I enjoy my page exactly how I have it, and really do not enjoy the plain look and almost clinical feel to the beta page.

  • im not sure how i feel about it yet....its REALLY different from the xanga that i love. i just dont want to be forced to use it. maybe i eventually will, but i dont wanna show up on xanga next week and be like, damn i can only use this.

and i agree with a lot of the other posted comments, yall are trying really hard to be facebook. im sure it because its popular, but facebook is starting to suck since it sold out and i get stupid application requests every day. xanga hasnt changed for the worse, ever. thats why i blog here.

but this layout is hard to get used to, and i dont wanna be forced to use it. that is the kind of thing that would make me have to find a new site to blog on.

  • Maybe it's just me, but it feels like everything is trying to become something "new" when the "old" is perfectly fine.

I don't mind the new page since it's optional, but I'm never going to use it.  Xanga's fine the way it is- simplicity is elegance.  (What's up with the whole Minis thing as well?  I nearly raged out loud when I saw that crap.)  Xanga ISN'T Facebook, MySpace, or LiveJournal, and I hope this is as far as it goes in trying to be like them.

  • Hi, John, Like you said, it took a little getting used to but I really like the new set up since everything is at my fingertips (comments, new posts, adding a post, etc).  However, I agree that I don't need to know every time someone has uploaded a picture.  One other suggestion is to have the "private" posts appear on the same page with the regular posts so I don't have to click to another page to read private blogs

And thank you very much for the "reply" feature that Xanga has added recently, I really like that.

  • I really think we should have the option to change all of the links and make them go back to our old home instead.
I don't like the layout of the new home much, but I might use it occasionally.

  • Please make this optional. I really dislike it. Its not convenient at all. Its confusing and theres too much everywhere. I don't like it. Honestly every time it comes up it makes me angry. PLEASE MAKE OPTIONAL.

  • i absolutely hate it. too confusing and took away a lot of xanga's simplicity that made it so easy to use.

  • I much prefer having the ability to access my subscriptions as it was before.  I just switched back to the old school style.

  • I tried it out, and I have one question though... if I wanted to edit my page, how do I get to the "Look and Feel" feature?  I was searching and could not locate it.

    Thanks.

  • i personally don't like the "universal inbox" thing, i'd rather just see my subscriptions or own entries. it's also a little cluttered and as someone mentioned, looks a lot like facebook on a cosmetic level.

another vote for "make it optional" please!

  • i do not like it and do not want it !!!!!

  • for me, I don't really like the new one...

  • Well, I do like the fact that it is an optional beta, but that's as far as it goes.  It was not immediately obvious how to post a new blog entry which is ridiculous because A) that's why I'm here B) I don't have to figure out how to do things the old way and C) I really do not wish to expend a ton of energy trying to figure out how to navigate someone else's idea of "It looks cool so that must mean it works."

  • HORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIBLE> please change it back

  • hate it.

  • hey, i just got a new xanga here and i am quite confused with something.. how come my friends can't subscribe to me? i mean when they try to subscribe me, it says that my page was not found. can u help me?? like can u try and subscribe to me and u will know wt's happeneing. THX

  • ok I love it except..... I want to be able to have a cool homepage b/c I like personalizing things and I can't do that with this page.

  • I'm having the same problem it seems most ppl are yes its in beta form and its optional and there are some things I really like , like showing all the activity from my subs in one place, but things aren't so great like why can NO ONE find look and feel, I was really starting to think I was losing my mind but coming here actually made me feel better, just knowing other ppl have similiar reasons to not like it also. not a horrible idea just needs some work (BTW  Where is the Look and feel??) or do you have to switch between the two homepages just to tweak your blog enough that it looks how you want and then again to see all the activity. like I said not a bad idea but Definitely keep working. and an answer about Look and Feel would be much appreciated.

  • Please leave my Xanga alone!    I am informed by a reader that I have acquired something called a tracking crush and I don't want it.    Also how do I delete the 45+ messages that have appeared like some sort of goblin?

I have enjoyed Xanga for several years, but you are ruining it.

    Ava South

  • GHEY! The more things change, the more they suck!

  • I hate it! [I also hate the themes and can't figure out how to get my site to look better - the themes are the most annoying, but thats not this topic...] It looks like one of those stupid facebook sites! I agree with lady_jasmine entirely!

  • =] hope it's a choice!

  • i don't like it at all.  it feels very cold and impersonal, like myspace and facebook.  i would like it, however, if...

-you could link to it like you link to subs, etc.  in the original format so that it was another option, not the only option and you clicked to get to it.-you incorporated the function of what is here into the same look (background, etc) from the original.

  • No thanks, I like being able to personalize it. I tried it before and it was horrible. Its so... blah

  • how do i get mine on the old one?

  • It's great! It's so much more sophisticated!

  • I don't like it.  Please stop becoming Facebook, we already have one of those.  All I want is a place to share my thoughts, not a 'social network.'

  • i hated it

i liked the old one it is more like home to me

  • i gave it a fair shot, sir.

i still prefer the old way. screw social networking; take us back to the start--what xanga really is--a blog site.

  • Where is the link for Look & Feel? Are you, Xanga, trying to make all members to use the Xanga themes so that there will be no customized Xanga sits?

  • And I really don't like that when I try to go back to my private home page it takes me automatically to that....that's not what I call optional. Sometimes I have to get all the way out and come back to get back to my original homepage....that's a headache.

  • i dont like it. its confusing because im a noob. x_x

  • everything's too spread out..

and how it is back to "basics" if everything is cluttered on one page??

  • It really is far too wide, particularly for those of us with widescreen monitors. I really hate the feed, personally; the subs and feedback links are there for a reason, you don't need that stuff cluttering up your homepage. When you try to make everything "readily" available on one page, it just makes for more complicated navigation. At any rate, it should definitely always remain optional.

  • I added a theme on this new version and hate it and want the old look back...how can i do that??

  • I'm sorry, but I'm going to be adding to the list of complaints that seems to be piling up -

Not interested in the Welcome Wagon, thanks -- if I wanted to feel like a stalker, I'd use google.

And I'm definitely not interested in not being able to change my private page back to how it used to look. You know, the nice, tidy, uncluttered version. The one that should definitely be available as an option.

Seriously. This is just ugly. And how is it supposed to make it more convenient for anyone, especially if someone who's been on xanga for five years can't figure out how to navigate it?  I'm not at all impressed by xanga's changes. It may not have vampires or sheep, but at least Facebook hasn't started to look tacky. :

  • @Lady_Jasmine - YOU'RE taking this as if this is the only option there will be. It takes a lot of effort and time to make a great site like this, so stop whining. If you really hate it that much, just don't use Xanga, but appreciate what they're trying to do, which is make people happy and try something new.

  • Really, it just takes time to adjust to. I guess it is  okay, but I have to admit, I liked the old one better only because it was easier finding things. If you and your team want to keep this kind of format, though, then I suggest just making the site optional or able to switch back and forth easily. Other than that, I have nothing else to say; sorry, but I really don't like how many people are just slamming your great, new idea, as I expressed in my reply to Lady_Jasmine's comments.

Congratz and keep it up! I'd love to see more. = )

  • @angelwhite99 - Um - I posted that comment days ago, I've been in touch with the Team about my concerns since, and my complaints were voiced in a lot softer and slightly less abusive tone than a lot of the other people here who've expressed dislike over the new concept. Plus, I'm also not the only one who posted twice in this entry. Why just pick on me? I understand what xanga's trying to do, but everyone's allowed an opinion, I happen to side with the dissenters on this one is all.

  • @Lady_Jasmine - Well, I don't want to stir up one of those useless controversies between us, even though I kinda already started it, but most other peoples' comments that I've read have actually given advice, which is what the team asked for. I'm sorry that I only picked on you, but I really didn't have the nerve to just tell other people the same thing. From reading your comments, they really didn't seem "softer and slightly less abusive," but more unappreciative. I just don't like it when people show so much dislike on something someone worked hard on, but really, thanx for replying a lot more nicer than I did...I do apologize for that. Yes, you do have an opinion, but the way you expressed it seemed so disrespectful with the all caps and limited opinion. Anyways, I guess I should be the one that's sorry.

  • There's too much words and you can't choose the backgrounds and colours for the words. It's too bright for the eyes.
    Not my personal favourite, sorry.
But feel free to come up with something newer/less clustered.

  • ??????????????????????????????????????????

  • I have a ? i have some one added to my frined's list and everytime i go to clikc onthe link it say's the page cant be found but , my friend can see my page, and i dont have this person blocked. why am i having this problem?

  • I can't recall if I commentedor not.  I actually liked it when I was using it. Tons better than that horrid dash thing.  But there was one thing I missed:  the calendar for quicker navigation to past blogs. I don't know if that was changed or not, but if not, yeah...please keep that calendar.

  • I hate it too. Very much so. It's really annoying, I'm glad I have the old hme page in my favorites so I can just go there instead of the new one.

  • Definitely do not like it.  Please make it optional.  If I wanted it to look this impersonal I would go to facebook...

  • i don't like it at all!!!!! please please please make it as an optional!!!!

  • Sorry dude, but it sucks. I'll stick to what I'm used to.

  • I prefer the old layout - How do I change the public page back to the old layout? Kindly advise anyone? Many thanks!

    Babs

  • ah, i don't like it :(

    everytime i go to my feedback log & stuff, it's always there ! >__<;;

please tell me how to get rid of it !

i like xanga better like it was 2 years ago.. !

    <33333 xanga forever :)

  • HATE IT! I just now figured out how to get my old layout from your previous upgrade and now your making it worse! When will you stop!?

  • Do not change my home page to this shit when I post a new blog and then tell me I can go back to my old home page by hunting down some navigational button.

It's not optional if y'all are changing it when I post a new blog... then making me change it back.  I do not like the ugly ass new private page.  I do not wish to have the ugly ass new private page.

Xanga Gods... how about doing something original, instead of trying to be Myspace, Facebook, etc.

Keep this ugly ass private page optional!

  • Making it easier to keep up with friends
    - Comprehensive feeds of all your friends' updates
    - It's easier to read and respond to friends

I don't care baout my friends' updates, I care about my own.

There is nothing more convenient about white and impersonal and generally not being mine. I log in to see my page, not everyone else's.

  • STOP CHANGING THINGS!!!  I like it the way it is !!!

  • I'm going to have to join the "instantly hated this new-fangled thing" crowd on this one.  I've never liked those feed like interfaces and I like seeing my page on the back-end look nearly identical to what everyone else sees.

  • PS:  give me back my fracking customized subscriptions page!  I like white on black.  It's easier on my poor eyes, because white backgrounds are way too bright and become actively painful after a while.

  • I'd just like to say, I'm sorry if I sound like I'm coming down on the dev team or something.  I'm not.  Y'all do great work.  I'd just like to be sure that this new feature is optional.  I spent a fair bit of effort making my site look simple, clean, and easy on the eyes in terms of the right font and gray shade and keeping the clutter down.  I'm all for new features, as long as they're optional.

  • I don't like it. It's like another facebook.

One of the reasons I like Xanga is that it's simple.

the new layout is messy and hard to use.

    please make it optional.

  • I prefer the old private home page than the new one~
I like the cutomisation, having my own background, header etc.
This is the reason I'm avoiding to switch to the new private home page, and afraid I might not be able to switch it back to the old private home page that I have tried so much effort to be uniquely for just me, a place have home feel, where I keep all my diary & secrets.  I am sure this is the reason that most xanga user does not want to switch to the new private home page.

I would suggest to have the new private home page, not as a home page, but keep it as the "universal inbox", where the users can go to from their old private home page, as it's quite convenient to navigate & see all the subcriptions.  It's a great development & improving on the features.  I'd suggest to have the page in different colours or themes other than the blue & white, as many said the new private home page is just like facebook.

So please do not standardise the new private home page, and I still prefer to have my own background than the themes.  Maybe you can make it optional to choose a theme or use our own background?

  • argh! it's difficult to navigate with the new one. i hate it. i like the classic xanga, and keeping it that way.

  • oh....it is great!!!!

  • I really like the old xanga setup. I wish everything would stop bugging me about trying the new stuff. :(

  • i don't like it. sorry.

  • my question is can i still access sitemeter and suhock? i cant find them both on the new site and i would like to know who views my page.

  • that's great~
    good job

  • on the main page where my custom header is, it say themes so i clicked on it, and  i picked one and when i wanted to save i did and went back to the page but when i did that, it wasnt there, how do i get it back????

also, when i want to choose a font color, i click on the colors but it wont let me, it has always done this and have no idea why, how do i fix that , i have had a facebook before and it sucks and  i dont want to have to switch to that because  i  like xanga better. =[

  • I prefer the old style. The new one is so similar to Facebook and doesn't attract me at all. Or make it optional. Thanks!

  • it appears your TRUE users are of a fairly like mind about the new page, john. i'll use it if you make it mandatory, but i hope you don't slowly evaporate your core users. take away the poles and the tent's gonna collapse.

also, i'm a bit concerned about your reply function. it's a fairly major structural change that's affecting the dynamics in a fairly major way. careful, guys. might i suggest the replies appear on BOTH sites? that'd be a win-win, i think.

    take care.
    phil

  • It's so limited.  Didn't care much for it.

  • This sucks I liked it before i worked hard to individualize my page and make it pretty or whatever you wnat to call it. i really dont like this i think it should be optional whether or not we wnat it to look like this.

  • I don't like it.....I won't use it....

  • It's really messy and just very confusing - too big, too. I'd stick to the old one any day.

  • ............

  • hey I want to ask how can I remove the advertising banner ?

  • I hate the new look and when you go back to the orignal page then click onto your footprints it takes you to the new page!  I don't like it.  I only use xanga because of the easiness of the use.  I don't want you to change.  If I wanted difficult and stupid I'd be on facebook or myspace.

  • like the old one better,
BUT! i do like that the new one has the reply to comments feed...
i dunno...still like the old one better

  • It's not too hard to learn your way around. The new homesite is growing on me :) Thanks for all of the hard work ya'll put into the site.

  • The layout is terribly cluttered.  I prefer the simplicity of the old one, thanks.

Don't try so hard to be Facebook; make Facebook want to be you.

  • xanga come on, make this opptunional....I freaking hate looking at this, I spend time (lots and lots of it) to insure that I love my site, I hate not seeing the thing that I have created....leave this alone please, or at least make it opp.

  • I don't like it.  I prefer the old one. Appreciate you working to make Xanga easy and simple but I fee the old layout was cleaner and easier to navigate.

  • I wonder why it hides my subscriptions, even I changes it back to "show" for hundred times!

  • holy crap, i just got back on this a few days ago.
and it.. completely changed. i was just clicking around
TRYING to figure out what all of this nonsense was
and then it happen,  my old page, which i worked
hard on.. changed to some other ugly thing!

    HOW CONFUSING! HOW FRUSTRATING!

i actually had to make a NEW xanga   because it
was so messed up. ahhh, but i'll live with it.

just.. i don't know. delete some things.
there's too much. and it's just confusing.

     melinda

  • I like it.  I do not customize my private page much so it's not a big deal to me what it looks like.  This new private actually works quite well for me.

  • 2nd responds from me

your lucky, team xanga! and especially you john!
i've grown to .. like this whole new deal. it's not as bad.
you were right. i just needed to get use to it. but hey!
    what can i say? i'm a stubborn one.  & atleast i admitted
    that i like it.. NOW.

just don't have put any crazy applications like facebook does.
i hate those! their so annoying. i wouldn't want to be sold
on xanga too! ( like on facebook, the "friends 4 sale" appl. )

remember, we're mainly on xanga because 88% of us enjoy
blogging here, while the rest of the 12%, jerks off to the blogs that's
    being written! hahahh! just kidding.

actually i'm not. because it is true.

  • @melleepoo - opps, typo! cross out that "have" in the second paragraph.

  • great new look!
    good work~

  • still despise it

dont screw up my precious xanga

cause i have nowhere else to go!

  • I hate it as well! If it is going to be a permanent feature at some point in time then I will go elsewhere to blog.

  • I hate it as well.

  • Please make it optional.  I don't care for it at all.

  • It sounds great! but i think you should keep it optional though and and it would be great to have the option to have a background and/or color changes. :)

  • Horrible horrible horrible. I liked Xanga the way it was, simple and uncluttered -- no "friends," no silly credits or minis, just a simple blog editor and subscriptions to other people's sites. As another commenter said, if I wanted Facebook, I'd go to Facebook. Don't try to be what you're not. Not to mention the insulting way you haven't even made it compatible with Safari -- it's completely buggy on my Mac.

If you insist on imitating Facebook, please please PLEASE make all these new "improvements" optional.

  • DUDE!!!!! IT SUX!!!!!!!!! I'VE BEEN WORKING ON MY NEW SITE FOR AN HOUR NOW TRYING TO GET IT TO WORK THE WAY I WANT IT AND YOU STUPID NEW WAY OF DOING XANGA IS MESSING IT UP!!!!! I AM A VERY BUSY PERSON AND DO NOT HAVE TIME TO SCREW WITH YOU NEW WAY OF DOING THINGS!!!!!!!! CHANGE IT BACK!!!!!!!! IT SUX!!!!!!! I WANT THE OLD WAY OF USING XANGA BACK!!!!!!!!!!

  • good idea

  • @Lady_Jasmine (and others) - I'm with Lady_Jasmine here... I'm usually the last person to resist progress, but the new private home page is a bit of a mess and way wayyyyyy too try-hard.  Simple is good. Embrace simple!

  • don't like the new page with the new themes; it doesn't accept javascript, so it's next to impossible to add anything to the sidebars...get rid of this new private page...hate it!

sage aka paulette who has a 'lifetime' membership I might add.

  • i hate it too!

  • just keep it optional eh? i have music on my site for a header i like to listen to sometimes, and i cant get to it when this page is up. it is usefull to get all the info on whats going on though. all in all, a good idea but just keep it so that we can switch back. keep up the good work xanga!

  • I prefer the previous one

  • yeah, definitely keep this OPTIONAL! because, quite honestly, i hate it! just giving you the honest feedback you guys want ;) haha, sorry to be harsh! the IDEA was a good one though.

  • oh, & the new themes thing is a great idea, BUT all the themes seriously suck :( no html, javascript, anything! oyy!

  • hate it.

when i first started college last fall, i got a facebook because everyone in college has them and it was what was expected. i got caught up in the fast paced, "college-ness". then i got sick of it. i longed for xanga again, and for what it has always represented to me: simplicity. a place where things were less focused on your "hawt profile pix" or your "suh-weet apps" and more on what you have to say, the content of your posts, the thoughts you throw out there into the interweb for anyone to read, maybe even comment, but mostly for yourself. i treasure the quiet. xanga is a place that is mine, where i can write and not worry about my professors checking my profile or what pictures were tagged of me at some party, or whether someone's gonna get pissed because they're not on my "top friends" and i didn't throw a sheep at them.

imagine my surprise when i returned from my xanga hiatus, after a long exodus into the land of the mediocre and asinine, to find that the new changes to my private page were a near exact imitation of the social networking sites i have come to despise?

i tried to like the new homepage. i tried to get used to it, but it reminds me too much of everything that xanga is (thankfully) not. though i may stray from time to time as my life goes through changes in its course, i have always been faithful to xanga. i got my first xanga when i was almost a freshman in high school. now i am a freshman in college and xanga has seen me through almost five years (though this is not my original xanga, sadly). i don't want to see it turn into something i don't recognize and can no longer feel at peace about. please don't ruin xanga and the idea of xanga for me.

    sincerely,
    -leah.

  • Hey guys, stop forcing us to "try" things we aren't interested in.  It's good that there's a way to go back, but I never asked for my premium free trial, I never asked for the new homepage free trial, and having to deal with both was nothing more than an annoyance.  I see you are very desperate to keep people from leaving to go to myspace, but the way to do that is not to completely ignore the fact that not everybody has a fetish for the same complete garbage you do.  I like the old Xanga.  It did what I needed and wanted.  Still does.  Now if it would stop doing stuff that I DON'T want it to do, that'll be perfect.  Give us a choice about whether we want to try something or not.  Maybe fewer people would leave.

  • I must add, I have not used a single one of those rediculous credits you gave me, on either of my accounts.  There are some of us who are not eight years old and not distracted by silly crap like that but what REALLY makes Xanga a good blogging site--other blogs are easy to subscribe to, navigating subscriptions, metros, and groups is easy with the old page, when they are right there in their own sections.  Leaving comments is easy, so is reading them.  These are Xanga's strengths.  Please stop diluting them with garbage

  • MAKE THEMES OPTIONAL PLEASE.

i sent like the whole of last night trying to make my public view just like my private view. Its so confusing, i still havent got that figured out yet.

  • The old private page was just fine as "Back to the Basics."   This new one is too cluttered.  If you insist on using the new one at all, give us the option to keep the old one.

  • i hated it at first..since..i dont know where all the buttons are! but then i found the "change back to old layout format" so i clicked on it and now i'm all happy again :) .

  • I don't like the new look. It's too much like Facebook. Yes, as mentioned, I will go to Facebook if I feel the need for it. The old Xanga was fine. I know how to look for updates when I want to see those updates ... I want to be able to see my private posts ... and, unfortunately, I don't know how now. It would be nice to just keep it as an option ... but please don't make all of us change to this new version.

And, as noted by raspberricream, it would be nice to have a button to privatize all entries ... It's definitely a hassel to go page by page to privatize them ... and since I've been with Xanga, I've turned to different chapters of my life ... and I like keeping them without having to share with the world what they used to be. It would definitely be a plus to have that one magic button.

    Thanks~

  • The themes are not really attractive.

  • ok will give it a try. i'm having a hard time with the new private page! so i'm starting to feel old....

  • how to insert music....i want to insert music in my xanga...how.....

i want to put it in the header

  • i don't like it!!!!! it has become so complicated!!!!!!! the best thing about xanga is that it 's fast and it 's easyyyyy.......i don't know where to post new entries in the new xanga. that 's just so not right.

  • Good Try : )

  • I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE this
how come I can see my private profile...
but nobody else can seee my layout I have on there?

  • its very cool kepp up the kickass work

  • where should i click to change the look ang feel

  • SOR...CORR:look and feel

    please reply me

  • I really do like the previous "way of doing" better...like other commentators have previously mentioned, I feel it's way too cluttered, busy, and difficult to navigate.  I was so happy with the "before" format...now I'm really frustrated because I don't want to "learn all over again", and feel my private space is being invaded.  Thanks for listening....but please...forgo this improvement - it's not nearly as "improved" as you think!!

  • my problem with it is that I would like the new page to be my default page but it always goes back to the old page... someone please help!!!

  • ME TOO. i found this "NEW THING" very COMPLICATED.

i hate THEMES. its better if we all USE LAYOUTS. you just COPY and PASTE it. YOU CAN ALSO GIVE YOUR OWN PERSONAL TWIST IN LAYOUTS TOO.

  • I dont like it!!!!  it was hard learning the 1st one and wen i finally got that down ya'll change it please i want it bakkk

  • can we at least get the fonts back from the older version?

  • I can't fix the "look and feel" because I don't see a link for it on the new private page. I like the idea, but I mess with my xanga's appearance a lot and I keep having to switch back and forth between new and old private pageS just to get the link for look and feel.

  • I hate it! It cut my cropped my pictures so you can only see half! Let us use the original theme we made.

  • My public preview keeps showing a new skin that I tried but don't like and want my OLD look and feel!  I want others to see how I set it up, not just me!

  • i dun like it at allll....

    it seems very inconvenient..

  • I HATE THE NEW THEME, complicated, non-user friendly, and I want the way it was, so do a lot of people here!

  • Well, I'm more familiar with the older page, so I've opted to stick with that, but I have no huge qualms with the new page.  In fact, it's pretty nice.  Despite the negative comments, I think it's a pretty nice page!  As more and more new users join the xanga community, I'm sure it will certainly be accepted as a convenient way to keep their sites organized.  Again, kudos!

  • Yeah. I love xanga exactly the way it is because it feels real. It's not a place where I'm pressured to rack up on fake online friends to look cool or say things to make me popular. It's the only outlet that I have and something about this layout betrays the trust that I have in Xanga. It's definitely too much like Facebook and My Space.

  • I am with many others, don't try to be facebook.  I like xanga for what it is and DO NOT want to use the new home page.  I hope you keep it optional.  I may have to stop paying for premium as well if it becomes the only private page you offer.

  • PLEASE bring back the subs daily e-mails!

  • I don't care for it.. I loved xanga the way it was. When I log on to Xanga I know what others are doing by the words and expressions people share. I do not need feeds for that. I am glad we have an OPTION to keep it or leave it  I hope it stays that way.

  • I HATE this new private page. The old one was better. I can't even find the "look and feel" link. It's NOT easy to use, and it's starkness hurts my eyes.

I like the way I made my xanga look. This makes it feel like Facebook and Myspace. Ugh!

Ugh. Sorry, this new private page is an EPIC failure.

  • Please stop harassing me about trying the new private page every other week. I much prefer the old one, and I'm not going to switch to this new one. The new private page is just too much crammed into one page. It looks cluttered.

And on a side note, I really think you guys are trying to add too much to this site, what with all the "nudges" and "friends" and messages and "pulse" and all that. Really, I think the simpler the better. I'm perfectly happy with just seeing my page when I log in and having subscribers. I don't need all the extra junk. And it really just seems like you guys are trying a little too hard to be like facebook and myspace and all that. I really think xanga works best as just a weblog site. That's all I'm looking for, and I have a feeling that many other long-term, mature xanga users feel the same.

  • what the hell of this piece of shit~

I don't want that, I just want back my setting not yours!!!

  • i noticed alot of peoples REPLY buttons dont work. including mine. if you can fix that... thatd be greeeeat! thanks :)

  • I REALLY don't like the new subscriptions page.  It is way too facebook-esque.  I check my subscriptions everyday to look at new posts posted by my friends, not to see all those little things like what pictures they uploaded and who commented me and whatnot.  I don't think you should adopt features from other successful social networking sites.

My friend stopped using Xanga (actually she was on a hiatus and when she came back, Xanga CHANGED) because it was a bit confusing with that new Look and Feel page and all the optional tables you can add in.  You should keep Xanga simple, like it was before.  Make this Beta stuff OPTIONAL!

  • i hate it!
    it's terrible terrible terrible
    KEEP THE OLD XANGA

  • when using xanga themes,  where can I put link of bg music ??
it jus not well-developed yet! I want Look & feel back!!!!

  • Why is it that every so often, you decide to switch my view to this new page despite the fact that I have decided to use the old, uncluttered page?  It is getting annoying.

  • cool man ~~~~

  • i would really prefer the old-time xanga that allows us to design our site from scratch using 'look and feel'. used xanga since 2003 under another nick. now that i want a new blog, i really want to go back to xanga and don't mind paying for it again. but this new theme thing is making me reconsider it..

  • It sucks and I hate it!

  • I prefer my old page - I chose Xanga to use for my blog b/c of its simplistic design, I think the new one is too cluttered & looks like all the others. I've actually decreased my Xanga activity b/c it's such a pain to get to my old page.

    DONT FORCE CHANGE!!

  • This is not as user-friendly for the daily subs as the old way was -- PLEASE provide an option to receive the subs e-mail.  Thanks

  • WELL....

WHY I COME TO THIS PAGE??

  • i dunno how to use it..

a bit too messy wif everything crowded 2gether,,,,

    sorry...reallly hate it.

  • where is the link or how do you find the link look and feel?

    please let me know
    thanks
    Yulan

  • at first I didnt like it..now I like it better..easier to see who says what where...I flip back and forth.between the two..but..THIS SITE of mine..has major problems..It says I am using the "older version of editor" That was Not the way I started out...it flipped by itself...I have tried everything I know to do and the directions to update it will not work!

I cannot upload pix I cannot add books music etc from amazon..I can't to much..now I just tried to flip to the Beta version on this site..and IT WILL NOT WORK..

Grrrrrrr................just go in and fix it! Please! Thx

  • LOL...xanga's changing *sigh*
dont like the new page, too much extra clutter and so..white-colored..
    sorry!

  • i switched to it quite some while ago and it's great! :)

  • Doesn't feel like I'm at my site while I'm using it. It's cold, impersonal.....it might be more efficient but I never had any problems at all before.

    palese mkae tihs otpoianl

  • I think the main problem is when you're at the new private page, you're shown (immediately) what others are doing (i.e., subs, etc), and you don't recognize it as being something you've created. We want to start at home with what we're doing, with our own site first, before branching out to see what others are doing..

People are always much more interested in themselves, I think, and the personal page should take that into consideration.. Hope this helps

  • Please set it optional, cos I prefer the original look. Thanks!

  •                                                                      心情日記

  • Ummm... I don't know about this.  I really, really don't like it, but I will give it a week to see if it grows on me.

  • I DONT KKNOW HOW TO ADD MY SONG ANYMORE!

and i have two layouts somehow...one for my public page and another for my priivate page..

    wtc!

    im so confused and ahhhhhhhhhhh

    it's so messed up..:[

  • I'm probably voicing what others have already mentioned, but personally I do not dig the beta version of this new interface. It should definitely stay optional. I tried it out for a while and it was ok. However, the old interface is my thing, especially since I don't l like the Themes either. They're too intrusive into my blogging. I like the old "Look and Feel" page which is more customizable, in my opinion.

Also, as for the Xanga Skins - is that still around? Or are the themes to way to go now?

  • I find the new private page way too cluttered and inflexible for modification (background in particular).  I prefer the original layout that I am using now.  Please make this new private page design permanently optional.

  • well...I don't really think it looks like Fackbook, but I still don't like it. Especially since I have a black background. The sudden change to white is...weird.

In certain ways this is far better than the old page, but I believe the main problem is the visuals. Change the visuals so that it follows the user's custom settings might make more people want to use it. (or allow users to customize the page)

  • I really like it, it makes things a lot easier and more convienient. I think it should be optional, since some people like the way theirs looks, but yeah, I like it.

  • not bad, seems more functional;

  • thz you!!!
    i need old private page!

  • ?????XANGA?????????

    ????

  • eh... i still like classic better.

  • i hate it, too. i liked how i just signed into my own page and could navigate easily from the links there.  i don't want all this childish looking gibberish, lacking my background, etc.  i really don't want to have to use it from now on...

  • i dont like it, i want my home page to be my public page i dont want a theme can we turn it off???

  • Being played by a conartist.

I will start by saying that I know everything I know because I hired a private investigater to find out what I know now. I also have date stamped emails, texts and voice mails to back up everything I am saying here. And I KNOW that "I" am at fault here...I know this because I was the gullible one to do what "I" did. I fell and I am paying for it...however no one else who could be just as gullible as myself and we know they are out there should have to in the future. I am taking full blame for this.

    With that said.

It was back in December of 2007. I opened up a profile on Rainbowroomies.com.

I got all kinds of people checking out my profile and sending me letters, well this one girl "Chansondefeu" wrote me and had made a cute comment about something that had been written in my profile. And this is where it all began. I wrote her back and we started talking from there.  Her name on AOL is "AWHISPEROFME". She also goes by the name "firesong" and "Snow" from Lady snow's ice castle. She lives in Phoenix Arizona. Her real name is Susan T.

Let me pause here to tell you a little about myself.

I have a downsyndrome sister who I have been taking care of for 8 years come July3rd. The day I took her home was the day my mother passed away and the last night spent with my partner of 7 years.

Since that day it has just been Bessie and I...yes for the whole 8 years.

I had just started to get my guts up to talk to people on line when I met this Susan. She told me of a son who has adhd/depression/anxiety/ocd/sleeping disorder. So right away I bonded with her.

So we started having quite a bit of conversations in our aol emails, which turned to texts and sms text messages.  It got rather intimate between us. and every now and again she would drop me an email or voice message saying how she was behind on her rent or she had to get a new school for her son, because he was acting up at the school he was in and she had to continuously get called in to pick him up and it was costing her so much and she didn't think she could do it anymore that she was working 2 jobs, at a long distance co. with corporations who use their network services, and Walgreens. and she was going to get evicted. and that her cell phone was going to be shut off as well as her internet services.   Now my being connected to her in that way I feared of losing contact with her as I had said many times...I offered her monees to which she vehemently declined but continued to tell me about her sons school and how everything was going to get shut off...I sent her money...alot of money... she cashed the checks and every now and again I would get texts like peanut, (her grand daughter) broke her glasses and she needed them and was broke. how the cell phone was getting shut off again and all she wanted to do was call me...so I sent her more...and this has continued since then. Now I have to enphasize that she did not once ask for this money, in a direct way and she made sure of this and made it a point to put it in writing that she was not asking for anything...very smart on her part...

The PI report shows she has no employment...no jobs!

This girl is either the smartest woman or the craziest...

As we got more and more intimate I asked her when was the last time she had been with anyone, She stated years. I was happy with that but then I aquired a couple of friends in the Rainbowroomies site and in Pogo.com. And when they heard that I had a girlfriend named "Whisper" I got all kinds of emails warning me about this girl named Whisper and all her other aliasses who lived in Arizona and had used a couple of woman before, sending them the same poetry and such. She makes comments in other peoples blogs in order to see if they contact her and then she blind sides them with her talk and makes you feel like you are in an intimate relationship with her.  And I was given a name of a woman she was "personally" intimate with when the woman traveled to Arizona to meet up with her in a hotel room in July of 2007. In contacting this woman she admited it to me as fact. So I broke it off and dropped contact with her, but fearing that I was listening to gossip when Susan went into my RR profile once again, I emailed her and we started the "relationship" back up again...And as usual, she would bombard me with texts, phone calls and voice calls for a few days then dwindle off and when she felt you pulling away from her or it was around the 1st of the month she would be back hot on the lines again...she would draw you in as if she were including you into her everyday life...taking her son to the er...even sending a pic of a boy lying there with a sheet over his head looking like he was receiving stitches, or having to go and get a protection order against her daughters boyfriend, or her having to get custody of her grand daughter. How her brothers are homophobic alchoholics and drug addicts...(I find this to be one heck of a lie because she is still married and living with her husband) and her mother was an alchoholic who allowed bad things to happen to her, (this was probably said because after talking for a while she figured she might come up with something we would have in common to pull me in with...abuse.) and even having to go to therapy. All these things to make me feel inclusive in her life...The PI report shows none of those things occured...and that's a shame because those people are using that minor boy to do scams and sending his picture all over the web and through the cell phones to get sympathy for their scams.

Well It was just 2 weeks ago I gave her another check, yet just last week she needed more she texted me to tell me she was at work trying to get an advance. When I told her that it wouldn't do either of us any good if "both" of us were out on the street...because we were in the talks about her moving here...with her son...

So when I told her I could send her alittle cash for her up coming Birthday, (May 1st) She started calling me and sending me sms voice texts and regular written texts...I even got a singing text from her which can be heard on my audio here on Xanga.

So I sent her two cards and in one was another check...to which I have already informed her that there is a stop on it....I did this because I finally...Yes "Finally" (stupid dumb gullible me) got suspicious and contacted a private investigater in Arizona who investigated her for a few days and sent me the findings I have and in it, it states...That her husband resides there in her residence with her and at least 5 to six other occupants...none of them are minors...and nothing shows in any of the courts about custody rights protection or eviction proceedeings...nor can there be any findings of her having employment at all. So all the texts emails and phone calls telling me about working  2 jobs and not getting any sleep and trying to keep her family together was just a line to which she knew I would fall for with my back ground as being a Family woman. She preyed upon me and she caught me...Thousands of dollars later, embarrassingly yes and now I am struggling to keep my own finances together because there is so much more to this story, I just am not good at puting it into writing...And ever since she knows I have found out about her she has gone into hiding from me...no more text messages pledging how much she loves me and is so commited to me and so on...

  • I can't find any link that directs me to edit my blog's Look & Feel. In the old private home page I can just click a link in the module, but in the new one, when I click Edit Theme, all I get is go to a Public Preview, not any place where I can edit my background, fonts or something. Could you please place a direct link to editting Look & Feel in the new home page? It makes me quite miserable being uable to modify my Xanga's looks. Thanks><

  • @Lady_Jasmine - hey lady jasmine as you say i looked at your layout and it aint pretty! my eyes were blinded by it! well gtg wat ever i dont care really wat your opioin is!

  • I have to say, that when I log on to xanga from the main xanga.com page, and the only option I have is to go to the new, improved homepage, it doesn't look very optional. I really prefer the older page, with the blog on the right and the columns on the left.
Please, please don't make the new page a mandatory thing.

  • definately prefer the old system. tried the new one for a few days, couldnt get used to it.

  • the new "private home page" is stupid. No one likes it. This better be optional forever or else I'm going to have to stop using Xanga

  • woho, count me out from the new beta system.  i'm finding it a little complex, ie. i can't seem to work around on my Xanga Skins under the beta interface.  attempted to play around with the new installment for the past few months - can't help but revert back to the existing original private home page.  please make 'new private page beta' optional.  it really is tricky.

  • i hate it, please make this optional.

  • I don't like it at all. It screws the look of everything up. make it go away, or make it optional. fasttttt.

  • Please make this optional -- I much prefer the old way.  And please fix the subscriptions digest so it goes out daily -- for the last month or so it has been sporadic.

  • i dont like this at all

  • THX~I LIKE IT!

  • It's overwhelming at first, but now I gotta say it's good. Many people make conclusions on first impressions, so I guess it can't be helped.

  • @Lady_Jasmine - I'm having the same problem and I click on the links but it's not workig...

  • @Lady_Jasmine - I'm having the same problem and I click on the links but it's not workig...

  • It's ugly.....

    I prefer the old template....../_

    It isn't compulsory, is it?

  • I've tried it, and I extremely dislike it. It's WAY to busy, and changes too many of the current options that I like. I hate the fact that xanga seems to be copying myspace as to format. I hate myspace, and use it only when I HAVE to. And please stop forcing me to try it again when I log in. Keep xanga clean and simple!

On a happier note, I am really enjoying the use of minis. That was a great move. It would be great if there was a "You're in my prayers" option that not too "organized religion" looking. Maybe a dove image or a pair of praying hands, or even more abstract like some rays of sunlight poking through stormy clouds? That way just about anyone could use it.

  • Good! but I can not find the LOOK AND FEEL in the new private page~~~~

  • ..........................

  • I hate it, please stop requiring me to switch to it only to switch back.

  • I've only been on xanga for a few weeks, I didnt even know I was looking at my private page, I just tonight clicked on something that said "back to older version?" and wow! what a difference! I found my shelfari that I went crazy trying to install last night but couldnt find anywhere! I really like the older version, now that I know its here, I definetly want to keep it. "If it's not broke, dont fix it!"

  • i prefer the old one...

  • where's my background?

  • I think its a good idea, but its a little laggy, I like both versions. Keep up the good work.

  • @Pass_the_Aura - Agree! Facebook has been too complicated for me.  Anyway, for those using Xanga, we don't prefer Facebook, as I already know some of my friends have switched to Facebook......

  • You gave me second compuslory free trial because I left a comment here trashing your new page, didn't you?  Don't you understand it only makes me hate the new page more?

  • I actually prefer the older version - it's the one I use currently.

  • please make it optional! i liked my page the way it was.

  • how can i put music in this theme?

  • I'd say if it ain't broken, don't fix it :p

  • That's so great. Support!~

  • you should make it optional.
cause theres still a feedback log on the old homepage, and i like seeing my layout.

  • @xxRaMoNeS__RuLexx - It is optional!  You can turn it off with a link just under the "Add New Weblog" link...

  • 琴日真係好開心...因為終於有屬於我地兩個世界...

                    ----------------------         唯獨你才能令我心動          ---------------------

                    ==============================================

  • I prefer old school xanga personally, definitely keep the new interface optional :]

  • better than pervious version, i like it

  • Honestly, this is ridiculous....when this new crap came about, my old site, which I had been faithful to since 04 was so screwed up I decided it was just easier to shut it down.  The changes are not good.....and they should not become the new setup.....I'd like to keep my old private page and be able to edit my profile look and feel the way I've always been able to/

  • Please stop forcing us to see these new designs, layouts, etc.  I like the way Xanga has been for the past four years that I have been a part of it.  If you have some new format that you would like us to try, then make it an option that we can choose to partake in on our time as opposed to signing in and everything unexpectedly looking different.

    Thank you.

  • 唔識英文-.-'

    點知你講咩!

  • I am to familiar with what i have been using for years.  The new beta page seems too spread out and deals with what others have posted.  I need my homepage just that my homepage.

  • I'm sorry. I've tried it now for a few days- twice. I just don't like it. All I want to do is read my subs. I have no interest in anything else showing up on my homepage, besides my controls for how my page looks. I love looking at my design in my private homepage. I miss seeing it when I am on the new private site. I just like the old way better. Sorry!

  • i hate it
i like the old one more

  • i like the old one

  • I agree with most people. It's too... Facebook. I hate how it doesnt show your post, and how it's cluttered. If you make this real, please dont have it be the only option. And, (i know you'll do it eventually) please get rid of the " Please try out the new private home page!

or click here to read all about it" thing soon, ok?

  • really fantastic=]

  • Hey John, I really love the new private home page. It feels like Xanga is much more interactive. My only gripe is that the themes interface, although nifty, is still clunky and won't allow me to edit the content within the theme. ie.... custom header. All in all, keep up the great work.

  • I take it back. I figured it out.

  • can someone please help me?! I havent been on xanga in a long time and im completely lost. send me a COMMENT with the answer please

ok....my public and private view were really weird and organized looking. they had tables instead of an actual design. I was able to get my private view back to its original state....but i want my public view to be the old way too. It says i have a theme...and that any change i make wont show on my public view. this sucks!!! help

  • omg i fixed it. never mind!!

  • it's inconvenient for me, who's used to the old style. i don't like how everything is rearranged and i don't like the colors. please revert back to the old page or make it optional, thanks.

  • I like...........

  • New to Xanga, but definitely agree about the make all posts private possibility. I'm currently just using this as an online journal of sorts and would love to have an all posts private setting. Thanks for your consideration!

  • i really hate the new page.. i like the classic look better where i can see my layout and posts. maybe it takes a little time to get used to, but i rather not :/

  • I dont like it at all. I hate the themes.

  • i can't put in my cbox in this new site.which is kinda annoying for me n my frens as most of them are using blospot so they cant comment on my chatterbox.

  • woooow. i hate it, its way too messy.

annnnd, thanks to where you put the add this time i cant post a new weblog entry!
    >:o.
    like what the hell?
arrrggg. i guess ill have to use livejournal or something.

  • Please change it back to the way it was before D;

I like the way it was before the new added modules and such came out, Now I can't use skins I've created or skins I like from other sites made specially for Xanga..

    Thanks~

  • Please, please, please make it optional.  I just want my xanga as it is, although having a button in the sidebar that allows me to switch back and forth easily (and therefore use both!) would be *very* nice.

The original private page is great for just managing your blog (especially if that's all you want to do with your xanga), and this beta is good for keeping track of everything else (subscriptions, multimedia, etcetera).  So why not keep them both and allow us to switch between as different 'modes'?  Think of it like switching between a 'home' mode for the private page and 'blog' mode for the private page, and to that end, make it easy (a side menu link) to switch back and forth!

  • Hate skins, hate the new page, hate Revelife. Why only create a xanga spinoff for Christians? That's terribly closed-minded. If you do ONE religion, do a bunch: Jew, Pagan, Hindu, Muslim.

I'm getting more and more frustrated with Xanga as time goes on. It used to be clean, simple, and efficient and now there's all this extra stuff. Keep going, and I'll delete this the same way as I deleted my Myspace when apps started in.

  • cm-v-

  • I PREFER THE OLD ONE=]

  • i singed up not long ago and i realized that the home page setup was a new thing, when i tried out the old one i hated it
i think the new one is much more efficent!

  • oh i was just browsing through the comments and realized how many people dont like it
i like the idea of making it optional!
cause i love the new one pleeeeeaaaaaaaaassssseeee leave it!

  • i like it, but i question:
where is this new xanga cut thing on the new setup? i wish to use it, but i cannot find it. id like to make things in a cut, not making it in a new post. thanks. <33

  • I dont like it.
    :/

  • i really dislike the new private page.
please don't ever get rid of the old one.

  • it makes everything sooo much moree easier, and you dont have to click through everyone of your subs to see if there are any new updates. it puts everything in one space and alerts you when you have new comments on old blogs, i love it ! keep it please !

    xoxo shannon (daily user)

  • i do not like the new theme and i want to go back to my old theme, but i cant! please help me! even if i go to this link, http://www.xanga.com/private/home.aspx?set=1, it is private and my friend cant access it!

please i want to go back to my old theme! help me!!!!!

  • I really hate that every once in a while you force me to try out the new beta page.  Could you make an opt out or "never ask me this again" option?  I'm not going to use it because it adds on a bunch of "featured" crap about people I don't know or a website I barely use and makes it hard to find my *friends*, which is why I'm here.  I tried to delete those featured things and it added back on automatically so I switched back to the old one and don't plan on ever changing it.  An opt out forever would be fantastic, thanks.

  • just wonder in the new private xanga page, where can I put my audio HTML as a background music??

  • it is really cool

  • Okay so I've only been a member for less than a week so still trying to find my way around and put in place everything on my page and now this??!!

I'm affraid I'm not going to be much help on this survey as I don't have anything to compare it to yet...other than my chosen background theme is now missing and I'll get to spend the next 1/2 hour trying to get it back...ugh!

  • I really do not like this new page and appreciate that it is currently optional.  If you are going to keep the new page around, please also keep the option of having the old one.

  • i love the new page but john, i need an easier way to find it on my private page because it was very hard for me to do but i found it because i had just got a stellar new layout from my friends layout site. but i finally found it when this link popped up so if you could please just make it easier. comment me back on my page please :)

  • i hate it! how do you do layouts?! ughh please change it back :(

  • i don't like it. i'm starting to use it more because i have a layout that doesn't give me a right module and so i need it to see my messages and stuff, but in general it's not very visually appealing and the stuff that i need to see isn't easily accessible.

we should be able to change it around and modify where things go/what we see, like with themes except private.

  • I will try it. It looks more beautiful and convenient.
Let me have a fun blog.

  • i don't like the newNew Private Page

  • i hate it! i still like the old one better.
How come my blog entries don't show on my public view anymore?!?!

  • i think the new homepage is pretty cool but i like to edit my page using the old look and feel setup and it's really hard for me to find that section on the new page alone with a few other things. I understand that the new page take some getting used to but maybe some things should be left the same so then navigation is easier but thats just my thoughts!!

  • Hey,may i know how to put a chatterbox fromt he new page :) thanks !

  • I hate the new design. I liked the old xanga and I wish I could change it back without getting rid of my old xanga! Is their anything I can do to change it back?

  • I think this is really cool

  • Thanks for the option, fellows. I bet some of you stayed up all night like vampires to check out for pesky bugs and other suckers in the system.

For me, I prefer the old private page and no themes. I prefer creating my own backgrounds, like my own personal art gallery.

  • I think the new private page is great but I just can't figure out where to put in my own layout.

  • I am used to the old version.

  • how to put music in this new private page?

  • I just have a simple question I am using the old private page after experimenting with the new and I cannot seem to get my public page to have music as my private page does... any suggestions on how i could fix this would be greatly appreciated.
    =]

  • I like the old home page much better  :)

  • It's terribly cluttered and isnt aesthetically appealing. Please keep it optional.

  • its nice but i cant use any custom layouts. is there any way i can use the old kind even though i just signed up and took whatever was available?

  • The new is convenient to view subscriptions, but not much else.  I much prefer the old look.

  • Actually i am very confuse with this Xanga.

When i open my site its shows my updated white background but after writing an entry it goes back to my previous yellow background.

So no matter what options i click it still goes back like that and i am not even sure which is my latest background.

Somehow i still prefer the site when i first started using where it gave me creative mind to play with colours in my site and adding any links easier.

Now i cant seem to focus where to put up my links cause i can find any link that says edit my site.

  • Please keep this optional!. Where's the look and feel of a online journal? This is more of a web site look and way too bland. Booooo :(   What if I just want to journal and don't care about all of the other "stuff"???

  •  i don't like it..

  • The layout is quite good actually...

But I can't find the "Look&feel" in the new home page.I tried to click "edit theme" on the left hand side but it just brought me back to my site.

(Sorry, I haven't tried out the Xanga themes.)

  • love it its so much more convenient and easier to find what your looking for. i absolutely love it!

  • i want to ask that where is my look and feel?

  • Yea!! I just wanted to check.... where is all the edit optiions??
i can't block people with Beta!!!!

  • i understand your desire to make blogging fun.  I just don't think this is the way to do it.  the beta home page is terribly chaotic.  annoying to see so much info on one page.

can you please stop making the OPTIONAL page the default??   i hate that i have to go through the beta before I can go to the page I do want.

  • It's so Great!

  • I like the old system better and wished that you would quit changing my page to the new way.  I do not like the new way at all.  Please quit bothering me about checking out the new way.  I do not want it.

  • I agree; please make it optional. I don't want it either. It's a great idea and very nice, but not for my everyday purposes.

  • Hate It. :(

    I miss the old Xanga.

     Wahhhhhhhh.

  • I agree with Lady_Jasmine. This definitely should be optional when it eventually comes out of beta.

  • I really really really really really don't like it, and i really really really really really
wish the "try the new private home page" screen that keeps coming up had a "No thanks" link.  Better yet, it needs a "Don't show me this again" checkbox.  I like keeping everything separate, like it was.

  • It's an interesting page to have around...

But as a default it is beyond aweful.

Even more annoying are the constant links begging us to try it.

And worse yet is the splash screen that gives us no choice.  That needs to go away forever and never come back.

  • mmm it's cool! but I would definitely like to see some color customization with it. =)

  • i don't know how to find my "look and feel"

  • I strongly dislike it.

  • I think the new design is pretty good so far :)

  • I'm confused. I can't find the edit options.

  • I accidentally change back to the old private page, but I want the new private page back. How can I do that?

  • In my not so humble opinion, the new private pages suck!

I really wish xanga would stop forcing them on me every week or so. I HAVE looked at them and I much prefer my existing setup. Why mess with a good thing?

  • I much prefer the old format because I feel more connected to my site when my own view is basically the same as the view other people have.

  • There needs to be a look and feel button on the new homepages because layouts are more fun hen themes

  • Why don't I like the new private home page?  Because it's ugly, and doesn't let me see my design.

Let my background show (and the boxes must be semi translucent), and I would change over in a heartbeat.  If the boxes are all solid and crowd out my design, or if they are transparent and can't be seen (like you have my profile page and won't tell me how to fix), then forget it!  I'll abandon Xanga altogether if you try to force me over, too.  I'm waiting to see what you all are going to "push" before I buy my lifetime membership.

I will say that I LOVE the new "you can change your comment for the next 15 mins" bit.  Thanks for adding that.

  • SERIOUSLY STOP SWITCHING ME TO THIS CRAP

    I HATE YOU GUYS

  • i really don't like the new one

it's ugly and hard to use

i can't change back to the old one right now!!!

  • How do I keep the old... And have everyone see my old set-up as I accidently went to the new one and now that's what everyone sees??? I like the old and easily customizable modules...

  • So... I tried out the new format for three weeks.

I still hate it. I went back to the old format. It's customized, it's easier to navigate, and it's how I wanted it to look.

PLEASE do not make the new format mandatory. I will seriously /ragequit xanga and go back to livejournal, because that is exactly what the new format feels like-- myspace/livejournal/facebook/insert GENERIC, boring site here.

I like seeing my page how others see it-- it makes me feel more connected to the site. Also... I spent a few hours getting it the way I like. Why do I want to look at a plain black and white feed-style thing *especially when a black background and lightly colored text is easier on the eyes*

I hate the new page with a passion.

I do like the edit comment thing, though.

  • It's fine, and I can tolerate it.
But I do prefer that we still have the option of changing back to the old Xanga.

I like Xanga just the way it is.

  • hey,I know your trying to make xanga better but i don't like the privicy thing, plus it's plan and boring. I LIKE THE OTHER ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hey,I know your trying to make xanga better but i don't like the privicy thing, plus it's plan and boring. I LIKE THE OTHER ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • quick question.. how to get i to look and feel from the new xanga?

i love the new xanga.. but i can just never edit how it looks with out having to switch back to the old xanga just to find it.....

  • The old version is much better!

  • where on the new one can you change your layout?

i can't find where or how to

  • why can't we jsut make our own background with html codes like the old xanga, it makes the page so much more creative, can we please have that option.

  • how do you make your private home page appear as your public one?!

  • do not like it, like the old xanga

  • I just ask that you pllllease keep it optional!  I love things the way they are.  It's part of the xanga charm

  • what up ;?
    kai 兒here`?

  • how to change back the old xanga version?

  • I'm new to this, so I don't yet understand. But I'm commenting to get more points! :)

  • O.k. maybe it's just because I'm old, but it feels overwhelmingly confusing to me. When I finally get a minute to visit my site, I just want it to be simple. It took me forever to even consider upgrading (and I'm not even used to that yet).

I do think, however that it could be a good option for a more savvy user/blogger.

Optional - yes, required - Please No.

  • i hate it!! i almost quit xanga because I thought you couldn't go back to the old private page

  • I'm getting used to it.  I keep switching back and forth.  I'd really like my private page to look identical to my public page.

Is it possible to give the option of having multiple protected lists?  My site is protected, but there are some posts I'd like to limit to just a few of those people.

    Keep it optional.

I would like my list of subs to show up so I can run through the list and read what I want.

  • fuck it
    its no good

  • I think it's okay. But, the old one is sorta' better. :/

  • optional or i'll die. :)
    kthanx!

  • I'm so sorry to say it since I loooove Xanga. But I just don't like the new home page look. I'm not sure why... it just doesn't appeal to me. I've tried keeping it on the new look a few times, and find myself just going back to the old look.

  • hmm, its alriiight. but i prefer for it to be optional.

  • I don't like it,del plz!!!

  • hi--!  its takinn lon timee waht i meaaan.....   hw do u  do.  i am erica!  i am japanese.....   oohhhh,,, upladsa my xangaaaa!

  • I don't want a different home page.  I like what I have always had. That is one reason that I choose Xanga and not MySpace.  I want my public and private page to look the same.  If this turns into something mandatory and not optional then I will give up Xanga.  I prefer simplicity.

  • I dont really care for it. I like the older version cause its actually less confusing for some people. I used the newer one for awhile but i went back to older 1. I like the fact u can see ur back ground in the older one.

  • Hello julie

this is a test from germany

  • i don't like it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    How to close?????

    I hate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i don't like it..

  • O.... Its .....  !

  • yeah this one doesn't work. the one before this one was nice a smiple. it looked SOOOO much better too. this one is.. eh... sorry it just is.

  • How do I put in a custom header on the new page???

  • I want to know how to see all my old private and protected posts along with the public posts with the new page ... i can do that easily with the old private page ...

If you must have a facebookish newsfeed type thing, don't make it the main private page ... make it one of the side links and call it "recent updates" or something. Let the main private page stay like the public page except for the extra links and the ability to view private/protected posts, like it is now.

That way the people who want the newsfeed will be able to have it, and those who don't want it don't have to click on it.

  • Please, please, pretty please - keep it optional.  I so like the old Xanga.

  • I think the new design is good ......=]

  • Can someone tell me how to turn it off permanently? I hate that "reminder" where I have no way other than reloading my whole site...

  • i would like to ask if i want to use the new private page is there any possibilities for me to have look and feel because i  dun really like the xanga themes but i want layouts created by myself
    thanks

  • i dont like itt:(

soooo confusingg i liked it how it wasss!

    im sorryyy:(

  • I have tried it a couple times and I just cant get used to it. Please keep it optional. I also dont like that I cant send my blogs to my blogrings now if I don't use the new version. Please fix that. Thanks.  derekwilson24

  • how to change back to the old  version?? i love the way it was... now i cant customise the looks.. :(

  • When I sign in I don't care to see an invitation to view my "New Private Page"

I expect to get to what I paid for, my "old Private Page" without the hassel of going thru the "New Private Page"!!!

I Have looked at the "New Private Page" and don't care for it!!!

    Please!!!!!!!!!!

  • how do you

  • Keep it optional. I like my old private page and it's so much easier to me.

  • I like it... how do I make it so I don't keep having to reset it??

  • can you pleas talke my site off privit

  • i doint lick it how do you get it off

  • i do not like it take it off now

  • Dear Xanga Team gentlemen:
I shall try out this private page and then tell you OK?Usually my intention is to get maximum footprints on my blogs. This private page ,what is it intended to do btw?
I must thank you a million times for (a) presenting my blogs in a neat manenr  eminently readable, and (b) encouraging me in every way so that I can write really well now (I even have written an English novel btw)and (c) bringing out innovations of this kind.Facebook was a great idea.It will get me still more readers. Why don't you put their footprints also on my page in some separate area so that Ican know !!Thanks a million any way!!
    Dr Sadasivan india.

  • I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!! IM UNHAPPY!!!!!!!!! I WAS HAPPY WITH MY OLD HOMEPAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TAKE IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't like it. It's too much crap in my face all at once. I really could care less of who my friend recommends

  • I also don't care to see my friend updates, if I wanted to then I'd sub them.

  • thx....i love U

  • I'd really like it if I could switch back and forth VERY EASILY from seeing my blog privately to this homepage. Otherwise, how can I read my entries? Like my private entries and my public entries all in one place? This is what this feed thing is missing most definitely.

  • @Lady_Jasmine - yes i agree fully, do not make the mistake facebook did, i have begun comign back to my xanga a lot more lately because i hate the new facebook.

  • Any way to stop it from automatically asking me to "check it out"? It's getting really annoying.

  • I like them both and would like to see it as an optional feature permanently.

  • i do not lick it pleas change myan now or elss i will deleat my site

  • could do with a little more colour coding, just to divide up spaces to put things in, it looks a bit of a mess at the moment....

too much text, takes too long to find stuff

  • um..i prefer the old one

  • wow i like xanga

  • HOW DO I GET TO XANGA DASH? I'M SORRY BUT I DON'T LIKE EITHER OF THOSE :(

  • Look!!  I am writing this for my Mother (I am mundanejane) to ask...no beg...you to quit switching her home page.  SHE LIKES THE ORGINAL STYLE AND FINDS THE NEW STYLE TOO COMPLICATED AND CONFUSING.  I have to get on her site and change it back to the orginal style everytime you change it to the new format.  If you keep changing it to the new format, she is thinking of leaving Xanga for good.  It took me quite a time to get her to become part of the blogging community so I too am getting upset that you keeping changing her to the new format.  PLEASE leave her alone with her site the way she wants it and quit changing it without her permission.

  • Apparently protected posts do not show up on the feed? This is one of several reasons I prefer the old page.

  • I love the old private page much much more and also my friends think so. How can I get back the old one? It is more convenient.

  • @raspberricream - I agree! I've got quite a few entries on here, and I've definitely tried editing them before, it just takes for ever! It would be great to have an option to mass change the privacy mode of all entries!

Also, about this new page...I know it's been a while since it came out, and I've been trying to avoid it. But I really don't use xanga as a social outlet, to me it is more of a personal blogging site. The new page looks great, and I'm sure it's useful for people that have videos and friends and mail to keep up with but I only use it for the web log part.
I don't know how many other people are like me, so it may once again be a small demographic, but I'd love to continue using xanga without having to bother with the other features. Please keep the old home page a working option! Thanks Xanga Team!

  • i hate it.
    i want the old xanga....

  • I love this new private page!  I had not used Xanga in a while and came back not realizing this was this new!  I thought it was only new to me!  Anyway, it is fantastic!

  • @Lady_Jasmine - Agreed. I have been a member of xanga for five and a half years and I still use the same Private Page setup that I had when I joined. I do not like the current one that most people use and I am not happy to switch to a new one. I like the one I have and I hope it will still be an option for me in the future.

  • Okay, here is my complaint. I loved the old Xanga WAY better. I went back to the old Xanga home page and used HTML to make my page look different. Well, it shows up in my private preview, but in public view it doesn't show it. It shows that stupid layout that I had to choose from in the themes on the new Xanga version. I don't like any of the themes you have to choose from on the new version. Plus, when I tried to change the looks around to make it looks like the HTML layout I was going to use some parts of the themed layout it wouldn't let me change. Also, if I try to put HTML in the customized thing it wont work, it just keeps saying processing forever and ever. Please do away with the new version or just make it optional. You say it is, but in reality its not or you would be able to see the old version layout in public view not just private home.

  • I'm using the new private page but not only I couldn't find Look&Feel until I went back to the old private page, the old one won't let the music URL I set to loop play on my public site. I understand it says the changes won't apply to the public site but all the online directions tell me to do so using the Look&Feel. How do I make the music play on the public site? I've seen people with music on their public site.

  • What's up with me being brought to a preview of my page all the time? Eh?

  • Uhhh, is it still a beta? It's been more than a year and a half!

  • wow im not about to read all of this

  • for some reason my private homepage is stuck as my public too and it's driving me up the wall.

    is this beta ?

because when i click the link it doesnt make it normal again.

  • i dont really like it.

The old one is my favorite

  • Thank you for continuing to keep it optional. It's a pleasure to recommend a site that can appeal to many different personalities and levels of interest.

Currently, despite my own infrequent visits here, I write "xanga.com" on the back of my business card - for any who might find it useful... and let them know there are many options for display and setup. It can be as simple or complex as the individual.

Kudos for creating a place that addresses the diversity of a very diverse world.

I know any issues expessed above have been (or will be) addressed. Thanks, again.

  • good, your website many make an imagination in the world.......thank I honor your website..........kenny

  • This is fine and all but how do I make it quit asking me to try it every time I log in? And nice touch FORCING me to it while trying to get back so I can use the good homepage. How do I disable this short of disabling JS to prevent the timer from doing it for me?

  • A feature I wish you would add to the new homepage... the ability to permanently filter my universal inbox. I would like to always only see my subs' entries and pulses, not their recs. Give us some options of what we want to see in the feed, like Facebook does.

  • "When I see you, the world stops as if the only purpose in life was for me to please you."

  • I like it old school through and through.

  • What if you want to make a new Xanga but really hate the new system, like really hate it and want the original one back?

  • I prefer it the way it was.

  • dXmn it...... how can i get back to my blog.............

    bad design

  • I really like it.

  • I've already got Facebook; I use Xanga for a different reason: different look, different feel and functionality.

    Don't try to be Facebook.

  • @raspberricream - I'm totally agree with it.
I think the new design is quite user-friendly and it will be great if I can privatize a number of posts at once.

  •  i prefer to use this..

  • im new to this can someone plaese tell where the look and feel link is ?

  • I'm sorry, but this seems too much like Facebook to me. The format, layout.... I liked the way Xanga was setup. Don't be a follower, Xanga, do your own thing.

  • Its cool I'll try it!

  • I wish you would stop trying to force me to use the new home page.  It sux, is  not easy to use, looks bad, and I'm tired of having to switch back to the old home page over and over and over.  Almost every change you've made to Xanga in the past 5 years has made it worse, not better.  If you would give me a migration tool so I could keep all my old blog entries, I'd move it all off Xanga.  I used to love Xanga, and am still mostly loyal to it, but it's becoming obvious I'm not the user you are aiming your product at.

  • I don't like it. I don't want it, and I don't want to be bothered by it automatically changing and me having to manually change back anymore. I don't even want to be reminded about it anymore. It's been long enough, and I've rejected it enough.

  • I WANT THE Public Preview ALSO THE OLD ONE,,NOT THE NEW,,HELP

  • hi, John~ actually i dun really like the theme tht much ~ i like my own xanga more~ hw can i set my public view become as same as my private view ~?

  • Ok everyone hello and come check out the newest and best bookstore on the world wide web.......www.byourbooks.com   is still new and under construction....so are you looking for a certain book,,,, let me know will check with my dropshipper and see if  I can find it for you............Books at an online BookStore  wow  ........

  • I really do like it, it's just I think it should be optional.
Just in case we wanna go back.
I personally love it, but other people don't. It's good to have variety. :D

    ~Derek~

  • I want the old page back. How do I get it back?

有冇一個work  ga防right kick and highlight

  • guys just make sure you know what you are doing i must admit i like the sparkling colors it reminds me of my good days holla  keep it real

  • i love it. i wish it was more organized like having updates and notifications when someone replies to our comments etc. Right now i never know when people reply to my comments or make comments, i have to search for it in a list of other things.

  • Optional is a good way to go.

The great thing about Xanga is that one can personalize it to their own style and taste. Facebook, etc. are not much more than glorified chat rooms.

Xanga allows great talent like WriteJayWrite to surface.

I've had neither time nor cashflow to allow me to be "active" but, often, recommend it to others. As long as you keep the format optional, I will continue to do so. If it becomes just another "etc.", there'd be no point.

(P.s. - Thanks for making it so we can edit comments after submitting. Good idea! ...and optional.)

  • Yes i like it but i'm still learning.

  • I'm not very sure how this works. What feeds are you all talking about?

I only see the changes in the editor.

here' s a small collection of some things Dave's seen.

  • I am anoyed with it because it is my old background for my private page.  I want simplicity.

  • Hey, I don't want this, you should give us a choice, why you change it? You like it, it doesn't mean I like it, besides, I can't find here it is too.

  • I like my present page very much and I don't want to change it... and I also have a problem that just recently came up... The "Bug" on my first set of posts (i.e. "next" has "disappeared"... It is still there but out of sight of the bottom of the page as it used to be so it looks as if there were no other posts after the first set... How can I get it to go back to it's original spot so that the rest of my poems can be accessed if someone wanted to read on to the next set etc? Please respond... http://www.pmanos@roadrunner.com

  • I'm old and set in my ways. After five years on here I'm too familiar with the old setup.
    I vote for optional.
BTW, if you warned us of the transition - I missed the "memo". I was up til 3AM trying to figure out how to access my look and feel...................hehe
    I remain loyal to xanga......
