Hi, John and the Xanga team,
 
I think being forced to synchronize all my stuff for Site Meter and make updates on old Xanga sites during proposed changes on both hosts has been good for me.  I have never before actually done an inventory on my stuff.  I was really surprised to find out I have 18 Xanga sites.  I have shut down 3 of the Xanga sites, so now I'm down to 15.  One was a fansite for a Vancouver scifi convention that got bought out, the other two were abandoned anyway.  One of the remaining sites is a private photojournal account of a CF (cystic fibrosis) fundraiser, linked only through private local CF sites and newsletters, one is my chicken blog, one is my private blog, one is an experimental artwork/poetry blog I thought I'd do more with, one I  made for a friend of mine who tried to break into modeling and she lost touch with me, 7 are fansites that get worldwide traffic (one of which has lifetime premium), one is a public blog I haven't posted to in awhile, one is a private site that I store codes and backed up fansite posts on, and the last one is my alien blog.
 
It's a real surprise to look back at some of this stuff and realize that a whole year or two has passed since I last posted somewhere.  mRpl the alien was certainly surprised...
 
All these things have kept me sane and focused through some really challenging and somewhat alternatively depressing and terrifying illness.  It bothers me that the Xanga team is considering shutting 'unused' sites down.  A number of Xanga sites are created by family members as tributes to passed loved ones, or by people who are very ill in a variety of ways and use blogging sites as therapy.  I think it's wrong to assume that the majority of users are possibly college aged people who simply abandon their sites and move on.  I don't think I should have to purchase lifetime premium on ~all~ the cool sites I've created just to keep them from being deleted if I ever go into serious debilitating nerve damage and recovery (again) that takes a long time to get through.  Because of my blogging I can gauge and actually see that I am *still* recovering from severe nerve and brain involvement that happened nearly 4 years ago.  I know there are others out there who would feel terrible if they came back to their xanga blogs in maybe two or three years after some kind of trauma, like a bad accident, and found them completely gone.  I personally know of some parents who lost college aged children and felt devastated when their children's sites disappeared off other hosts without any way to claim them.
 
I hope you heavily consider the 'abandoned' site shut down idea before you start doing it willy nilly.  There is a LOT more to Xanga than trying to get onto the front page in a featured blog.  For me, I would love to see a sort of multi-plan discount, perhaps?  Kinda like a multi driver family plan on car insurance, maybe there could be an adjunct to a premium site already owned by a user, more sites on the same email address could be covered at an additional smaller charge, perhaps?  I really can't afford $1500 to preserve all my stuff on xanga if I go through another flareup on my nervous system, but I would certainly consider purchasing more xanga space if I could get a multi-user discount.  I know I might seem a bit eccentric, but I honestly have to say, without Xanga, I don't know if I would have recovered this well this fast.  I've used Xanga nearly every day for four years to bring back and improve being able to mentally focus, my eye and hand coordination, my memory, and my ability to communicate.  Please tell me this Xanga stuff isn't just a popularity contest.  There are many people who never respond to your team posts who take their Xanga blogs very seriously.
