Cleaning up the Top Toolbar…
We just rolled a few tweaks to the top toolbar:
- Expanded “Update” Menu – we’ve replaced the old “blog now!” menu (which had options only for adding weblogs, photos and pulses) with a *full menu* of update options *including* new “edit” links to give you easy access to your various manager pages (e.g. photo manager)
- Prominent “Help” Link - we’ve added a prominent link to our help forums, so you can easily get answers to pressing questions like, “When is Xanga going to launch the customizable private pages?!” (A: soon! This toolbar update is actually part of that project.)
- A Bit Better Organized - in the old toolbar, the menu of links under your username had a strange mix of private and public pages; in this updated toolbar, the menus under each link are organized as follows:
- under your username – links to your private pages (plus your current credit count, which is basically a private piece of info)
- under “view site” – links to your public pages
- under “update” – full menu of update & edit links
Also, if you’re using Xanga Themes, you’ll see that the “edit theme” link now appears on *all* of your public pages so it should be much easier to find!
Just another quick update as we continue our Xanga spring cleaning…
Now back to your regularly scheduled blogging.

Sounds good. Thanks!
Nice. That does help things a bit. Keep up the good work.
Yay for providing a prominent help link! Thank you.
Holy crap – that’s a lot better
Very cool! I like it a lot.
so much better I think its great
It does look cleaner. I approve.
A+
Nice, I’ll have to go check it all out. Thanks for all the work you guys put into this site.
Love it!
Thanks for the update.
Excellent work, X Team!
sweet.
Thanks for keeping up the good work!!
I absolutely loved it. Terrific job, really and neat too. Awesome. =]
love it!
Nice. But when I use the “view site” links, it goes to the sections of whatever site I am currently visiting – instead of my own. For example, if I use the “weblog” link under “view site” right now, it will go to TheXangaTeam’s weblog page, instead of my own.
Two thumbs up!
love it!
So far so good. Thanks. :0)
@radicalramblings - indeed… it’s a feature not a bug! Haha, thanks for pointing that out – we’ll get it fixed up right away.
So much better, thank you!
Lots neater looking and more efficient, thanks!
aww so cute! ^^ thank you Xanga Team. We love youuus
xxxx
Cool.
good stuff!
This is a good idea…but doesn’t anybody think that the Internet is being made well…stupider and stupider?
It’s like we don’t even need to use our heads now O.o
I actually hadn’t noticed this yet, but it is much nicer. GJ!
[It's less like a BJ and more like a pat on the back...]
@kirbym - thanks for clarifying, ha
LOVE IT.
especially the fast access to photo editing/manager. IT’S ABOUT TIME.
Sa-WEET!

Ah, panic.
This is wonderful. Thank you!
I like!
It is a nice change! Great job.
@marc - You took away the credits tally on the toolbar, too. Do you plan on bringing that back? I liked seeing how much I had at a glance. I’m assuming you still have available credits listed when we use things like Minis and such.
EDIT: Nevermind. Found it. You put it under the dropdown menu of our site name. Got it. Any chance you could move that back to the main part of the toolbar for the at-a-glance purpose?
Good job
sounds cool but can we see a pic of the old vs. the new so those of us who don’t use xanga often or happen to be new can grasp the concept better? thanks!
A++++!
That’s really cool. I love it!
It looks nice. I’m wondering if the lettering could be a few shades darker for a sharper contrast.
Thanks.
It looks much better.
I like it, but are you guys going to fix the actual update blog page for chrome and safari? It’s really janky.
When will Google Adsense be available to non-Premium members?
Awesome!!
Nice
Help me out shipmate, A long time ago in a Xanga far, far away…there were reviews. You can still access those reviews from search engines. However, you can not access your reviews from the dapper new interface you provide us. Can someone place a “reviews” button on the X-interface so that I can access my reviews?
Sail on… sail on!!!
@marc - Yay, it works now. One more thing… how come the toolbar isn’t the same wherever I go on Xanga?
@radicalramblings - a couple reasons:
1) certain links are relevant only to some pages (or, alternatively, only relevant when you are signed in looking at your own site)
2) some pages are older and need updating! (We are working through all the pages on Xanga right now to try to address this one)
woo!
Awesome. Much easier to navigate now.
Can you guys do something that actually needs to be done?
I liked seeing how many credits I had right away, but other than that, I like the update!
@marc - Here’s one ya missed
http://www.xanga.com/profile/edit/friends.aspx
@radicalramblings - at this very moment I am testing a total overhaul of that page (and related pages)… it’s in this new format: customizable private pages
I actually prefer the old version better, but this is pretty sleek. (:
I like this a LOT. is there a way you can make the top toolbar disappear on the public sites? PLEEASE?
Nice.
This may just be my super noobity… but are “Metros” still around? lol
cool.
The format of the dates on my blog are in the “10 January 2010″ style.
How do I change it to the “January 10 2010″ format?
Love it!
Oh wow, I didn’t even notice that change until I saw this blog. But then again, this is the first chance I’ve had to get on Xanga in about a week. I would have noticed later on when I went to update though. xD
Do you guys have any plans to bring traffic back to Xanga? Your footprints drop daily.
Did you guys get rid of Plugz? I don’t see any going down the right side of my home screen
Thanks!
The update has reversed itself, I think. Many Xangans’ toolbars are back to the way they were before this update.
@emberfly_layouts - Click on the Footprints link on your homepage. From there you can look back for seven days to see all footprints on your site. The footprints vanish after seven days, but I’ve read that Xanga is working on a way to store them permanently.
@Katseye4pirates - thanks for the report! Looking into it now…
Thank you so much!
Is there any way we can remove the “top toolbar?” Just wondering
@jensa07 - I’m wondering the same thing… I like the toolbar, but I would like to see if we can remove it as well because it can be distracting from our whole xanga page.
