The Product Council Speaks! An update on Mobile Xanga
Over the past week, we've interviewed over a dozen members of our newly formed Product Council. The conversations have been incredibly helpful - thanks to everyone who has participated so far. (We still have a few more interviews, and will be tapping applicants for future Product Councils as well!)
We showed a lot of Xangans our mobile interface... and heard a few things loud and clear:
- If you have a lot of friends or are active on the site, then the universal inbox can be a bit overwhelming.
- A lot of Xangans like to click on the Feedback tab first, so you can reply to comments first.
- Another big priority is to read through your Subscriptions and recommends. Reading the Subscriptions lets you keep up with your most important reads... and checking out Recs gives you a feel for what everyone's talking about.
Given all this, we tweaked the interface so that you land on your Feedback. We also made it easier to access your Subs and Recommends with one easy click!
We've also de-emphasized the overall Universal Inbox, to help address the feeling of being overwhelmed.
Please check it out and let us know what you think!

Boobies.
Checking it out from my phone & liking what I see so far.
nice!
i hope you heard the footprint replies loud and clear!! : ) there's a LOT of people (an overwhelming majority) who want to keep them, and for good reasons, too. for making friends. thank you for listening.
I super approve of the updates! It looks nicer and less confusing. Thanks for listening to our input.
Btw, I find it funny that the screenshot would have Chris and boobs. How fitting.
That looks nice, very streamline.
I just had a random thought about footprints too. The last blog said that people feel uncomfortable scrolling through pages and pages of someone else's blog. Maybe then make it so that users have the ability to see who visited their blog but not every click that they made.
Someday, when I get a proper smartphone, you can bet your butt that I'll be attached to it
@oxlorixo - Hmm, I think that's a great idea about the footprints.
This is excellent, and just in time for when I get a proper smartphone in a few weeks.
Though I do wish the mobile version of xanga can operate on other browsers besides chrome, firefox and browsers like opera (which I use on my phone). It would be amazing in my opinion but other than that, from my first glance of it..the mobile version seems better.
Maybe in time, I suppose.
the app looks so cool!! makes me wish I had a smartphone... but I'm pretty sure apps work on ipod touches, too - and I plan on getting one hopefully soon!
I can't wait to see the upcoming changes that aren't mobile, too!
I just tested it out some more. I still think it's good, but I noticed there wasn't a way to access Friends (that you're not subscribed to) updates, comment rec, and messages. Will they be added later?
@Roadlesstaken - we're using m.xanga to experiment with a couple other bits of feedback we hear a lot:
1) "using the friends feature quickly overwhelms the inbox" and
2) "having both subscribing and friending on xanga is confusing... you should choose one."
Based on this feedback, we're experimenting with the idea of doubling down on subscriptions (the OG way to connect on xanga) as the way to indicate, "I want to read your site." And friends could then be morphed into some pretty awesome security features (e.g. multiple protected lists, where you choose which friends "group(s)" can see your protected post). So for now, updates from friends (except for direct feedback on any of your stuff) do not show up in m.xanga. If we end up sticking to this direction, though, we'll provide some sort of wizard to help everyone subscribe to friends whose posts they really want to follow.
We have no immediate plans to add messages into the app - it's on a list for future upgrades to consider though!
so far, it's ok, but I prefer to have an apps instead. Would there be a Xanga Apps for Android in the future?
You seriously had to put the word "boobies"in this post? Is this an indicator of how seriously you take this site?
hi im new and i hope that i have a great time.
@y_tc - Looks like there will be. LINK
photo uploader is broken in weblog editor in both IE and firefox
@NightCometh - Sorry, that was done by accident. It was just a screenshot of my mobile phone at the time I wrote this post. I fixed the screenshot; sorry about that.
Where do I get the Xanga Mobile App
xanga mobile hasn't been working for me for the past 3 days. whats going on??
I... guess I just don't understand the drive to service the smaller group of people who have mobile instead of *everyone* who, um, has internet. I understand that we must keep up with the times, but there are things that could be addressed (ie., moderated commenting?) that would benefit every user here, not just those who happen to have a cellphone.
I tried it from an android and all I get is a blank page.
I tried it on my Android phone on the stock browser and on the Dolphin browser and all I get is a blank page.

What's with all of the pop up ads in the lower left hand corner. I pay for Xanga so I do not have to deal with that crap.
i have a droid phone and when i try to access through the m.xanga.com site all i get is a blank white page. the correct web address is in the header but blank page. i can access xanga through the normal web page on my phone
I hope you release a smartphone/device app soon.
prior to this announcement, i could use the mobile page from my android phone. however, for at least a couple of weeks now, i'm getting a blank page like a few of these other commenters. what's up with that? i've tried logging in and out via the regular page through my phone, but that doesn't do anything. clearing the cached memory didn't help either.
How can I get this updated model of Mobile Xanga? How much it's price in Japan?
Thanks-
MIKKY
