A Sustainable and Growing Future for Xanga
We have a few announcements today.
First, we're excited to announce that we are going to make Protected Posting part of our free Classic offering, so that everyone can have an unlimited number of people on their Protected List. In other words, you will no longer have to upgrade to Premium in order to share a protected post with more than 10 people.
This is part of our ongoing effort to better support Protected Posts. For example, we recently added a feature that ensures that protected posts appear in other people's feeds and in the mobile app.
Before you ask, we’ve been dying to add Multiple Protected Lists to the site for the longest time and this is a big priority for us. Why haven't we done this already?
We Want To Add More Privacy Features Without Hurting Xanga
Well, adding features like more Protected Lists (and related things like Signin Lock, Footprints Lock and Friends Lock) usually ends up lowering Xanga's revenues.
These privacy features have been immensely popular and have quickly become widespread throughout Xanga. As our users have embraced these features though, it's become difficult for us to run a sustainable community — especially given our ad-supported revenue model. It's just hard to grow Xanga with so much of the community’s blog posts hidden away.
I also think the feeling of community has also suffered; I can't count the number of times someone has subbed to me and when I clicked over to check out their site, I found out that it's Friends Locked.
We Want To Keep Offering Locks
We've really wrestled with how to address this issue. Our current path isn't sustainable, so we're at a fork in the road. After brainstorming as a team, we've realized we're looking at two distinct paths:
- Stop offering locks over time
- Keep offering locks, but find a revenue model which supports them
You've probably noticed there are a number of websites that are going down path #1: reducing the amount of privacy options and locks available on their site over time. That's not a path any of us really want to go down.
That leaves path #2: keep offering locks and our extensive privacy options, but find a revenue model which supports them. We considered making locks available only to our Premium users: this would let us invest in more privacy options. In addition to Multiple Protected Lists, we also want to add IP-based Geography Locks, so you can ban particular IPs (die trolls!) or even “anyone in New Jersey” (or whatever state your ex lives in). But we felt strongly that we wanted to find a way that our free Classic members could keep using locks.
Our Solution: Free Locks For All, But With Pageview Caps
Finally we came up with a solution that we felt balanced all of the above: Free Locks For All, But With Pageview Caps. We’re still sifting through the data to figure out a reasonable cap - ideally we can find one that may not even impact many of you. Whatever the specific cap turns out to be, here’s how it would work:
- Classic Member That Doesn’t Use Locks: This wouldn’t affect your site.
- Classic Member That Uses Locks: We’re trying to find a pageview cap that wouldn’t affect most users, who would continue to get free usage of locks on their sites. But if you had more views than the cap, your site would become viewable only by you until the next month (or until you upgrade your site). Please note that you could still view and update your site in the meantime!
- Premium Members: Whether or not you use Locks, your blog would be unaffected by this change.
Or Possibly No Pageview Caps at All? A Way for the Community to Work Together
One of the things we hear most often about Xanga is how it has such a strong sense of community. Almost every day you see posts on the frontpage about Xangans helping each other out in times of need. And we wanted to find a way to embrace that sense of community.
So in addition to being able to upgrade your own site at any time to get rid of any pageview caps (and get all the other features that come with premium), we thought we’d set an overall premium goal (e.g. say, 5 % of active users upgrading?) that the whole community could work toward reaching together.
If the overall premium goal is met in any given month, then we could remove the pageview caps on *all* locked sites - even non-premium sites - for that month (or perhaps for the subsequent month, so Xanga gets a full month of benefits from reaching this goal).
Remember, our goal is to be able to invest in major upgrades to the site and to our mobile apps (which are exploding in usage). For example, as we mentioned earlier, we’re dying to add Multiple Protected Lists to the site and will finally be able to do so. These upgrades would benefit everyone, so we thought it’d be nice to provide a way for the whole community to work together toward making them possible.
Nothing is going to change for at least a month or so. We wanted to give everyone an early heads up, and also provide a way for you to purchase premium through our mobile app (we’re working on this now - especially important for our users who don't have access to credit cards.) We anticipate this will take at least a month or so, so nothing will change until June at the earliest.
We Believe in Xanga
It's been a dozen years since we launched Xanga.com. There have been ups and downs along the way, and most of our competitors have sold out (either financially or in other ways). We've stuck with Xanga over the years because we firmly believe that it’s a great and unique site With your help and support, we hope to make it even better!

FAQs
I'm not a premium member and I don’t use locks or protected posting. Does this affect my site?
Nope.
I’m not a premium member and I *do* use locks, but my site doesn’t get many pageviews per month. Does this impact my site?
Probably not. We’re still sifting through the data to settle on a specific monthly pageview cap. But we’re hoping to find a reasonable cap that doesn’t impact too many users.
I’m not a premium member, I *do* use locks and my site gets a good number of pageviews per month. How does this impact my site?
Once your site has reached the monthly pageview cap (we’re still determining the specific cap - see previous FAQ), your site will be viewable only by you. You can still update and view your own site and wait for the next month for the cap to reset. Or you can upgrade to premium, and your site cap will be reset to infinity.
I'm not a premium member and don't use any locks, but I *do* use protected posting. Does this impact me?
When these updates go into effect, all classic members will now have an unlimited number of users in their Protected List. Please keep in mind that pageviews of protected posts *will* count towards monthly pageview caps for classic members. Again though, we’re currently sifting through the data to try to find a reasonable monthly pageview cap, so this should not affect most of our users.

In xanga we trust.
So far, seems reasonable.
I'm thankful you guys have stuck with Xanga as long as you have. It's been my lifeline for years.
I'll be loving Xanga long time!
This sounds fair to everyone
way to go guys!
I'm a Lifetime Premium member, so do I get anything special? =)
Overall I'm on board with these changes. I hope it works out.
coo
Thumbs up!

i feel like the protected lists should be easier to use. like maybe instead of adding names to a protected list...or instead of having a friends lock...maybe just have a "friends only" option under each blog. that way if you want to friends lock a certain blog you can do that without having your entire site on friends lock.
or maybe i'm just rambling.
keep it up xanga
"
It's been a dozen years since we launched Xanga.com. There have been ups and downs along the way..."
mostly downs. Please fix your app. I would focus on your mobile presence first.
@SlackerSociety - Hi slacker - the fix has already been submitted to apple (it takes them a while to approve any new updates). In the meantime, if you delete the current app and re-install it, it should work!
@grizzlybearr - totally agreed
@marc - Thank you!
I love the idea of being able to track IPs without a separate site tracker clogging up my site, and being able to block IPS from specific people and Russians... erm, I mean, Russia.
Since I've already given you guys all the monies ever, I will sit back and watch as the awesome takes effect. :)
Thanks fer all the phish!
Don't forget about getting rid of Celestial_Teapot, FuhkAwf and all their anti Malaysians cybertroll squad.
Read Celestial_Teapot's latest anti-Malaysian hate blog and see who's who is flaming anti-Malaysians sentiment all over Xanga.
http://celestial-teapot.xanga.com/762847313/no-misconception-malaysia-is-a-piece-of-shit/?ref=topblogs
If you can't prevent racism/trollings on Top Blogs, then you already failed in my eyes.
I'm a Classic user, I hardly ever use locks, I never use protected, but if I get spammed a whole lot I sometimes put on a lock for a day or two. Will this change affect my site?
oh, also, i love Xanga.
@ordinarybutloud - (thanks) sounds like you fall into the category of "low locked pageviews", so it probably won't impact you.
Thank you so much for this update. You guys provide excellent customer service, especially when compared with other companies. Glad to hear about upcoming capacity for unlimited people on protected lists.
I would like to become a lifetime premium member, but first...some time ago, I sent xanga a copy of my ID, along with a request to make my username able to view all sites, regardless of the rating. I never heard back from xanga about this. I'm 25 now, and would like to finally be able to view sites that are accessable only to those who are 18+.
Also, when I update my blog, I cannot highlight individual things within it (to copy/paste for moving around sentences), and the bold/italics/underlining buttons don't work either.
Thanks so much for all of your hard work. Hopefully the bugs can be worked out soon.
@marc - i'm not sure if you're agreeing with my suggestion or with the "'i'm rambling" comment.
lol.
@marc - so pageview caps are only per day your site is locked, yes?
@ordinarybutloud - yup (not sure if it's per day or per hour or per minute yet - that's a technical question we have to tackle in the weeks ahead - but in general the pageviews would only count toward your cap during roughly the time that your site is locked)
@grizzlybearr - haha so tempted not to specify... but I was referring to your thoughts about protected
@marc - okay, then, sounds fair. but it would be better if there were a way to keep out spammers without locking.
I think the simplest thing to do is to make it so if you want to friend lock your site you have to pay to do so. Nothing irritates me more than clicking on a page and realizing I have to be someone's friend to comment back to them. And because I can't see someone's page then I'm always getting stuck with friends who's sites are boring or who post too much and my feed gets too full.
If you want it private pay for it. I'll never keep mine private. Ever.
Sounds good!
If you improve the quality and variety of the frontpage, it could help too.
@faerieshadow - we recently updated our fax number for age verification. You can find the updated mailing address and fax number here, even though it's for a different form:
http://help.xanga.com/about/wp-admin/page.php?action=edit&post=10
Could you please try re-faxing or mailing the form? We typically process all age verification forms within a few days (if not the same day we receive them), so it possibly never arrived.
For the editor issue, could you please send an email to the customer service team (if you haven't already)?
http://help.xanga.com/about/contact/contact-customer-service/
Thanks!
@npr32486 - if you trust in there stock you will go broke!
Cool.
I must admit when I read the title "A sustainable and growing future for xanga" I thought you meant we were going to spam other social networks and drive traffic to xanga and I was totally on board.
Call me a dreamer.
xanga is definitely my favourite site on the internet. i've only been on here for about a year but i love it, keep up the good work!
as a premium member, I approve!
Cool! Thanks for keeping Xanga AWESOME.
I like the idea of having a pagecap, but if you meet whatever goal, then it is removed. It would benefit everyone, I think.
I really like that you guys are so open about everything that you are doing, or considering doing. It's awesome. ♥
I leave most of my stuff wide open but not everyone is crazy like that.
hope it works out.
Several months ago I wanted to pay for a lifetime account, but discovered that once again there was no way to pay except by credit card. I do not have a credit card, and would not use it online if I did have one. The app also was not workable with my phone last time I looked. A way to pay via check or money order might be good to have once again, so that people can pay for the accounts to be covered. I'd have given a lifetime membership's cost years ago for the ability to block via isp info.
Good stuff!
Good job and Xanga is my only spot on the web and the best.
With a place like Xanga, so many of our blogs are personal. There's not too many who run strictly politics, or sports, or fashion, etc (at least, in my opinion). Sometimes we give our blog URL to someone with whom we end up have a falling out with, or it falls into unintended hands. As personal as our blogs are, speaking our unfiltered minds could become dangerous to our personal relationships. This is why I think the need for locks are necessary and important. I also understand that it doesn't help revenue... so I hope the plans you guys have work out for everyone involved.
You can thank your troll buddies and cyberbullies for forcing Xangans to put up sign in locks.
TROLLS/BULLIES => XANGANS LEAVE XANGA => LOSS IN REVENUES => XANGA FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY.
(1/2) - (2/2)
I love Xanga and have been a member since 03 (almost a decade! I'm really excited for next year!) ... I've stuck with Xanga because Xanga has always respected and been true to their users' wishes and preferences ... and I truly believe that Xanga makes changes for the better of the community/site as a whole, so I really do support the Team's decisions.. so first off, thanks for the heads up! I really do appreciate Xanga's effort to reach out to their users!
But I just want to take a moment to express my concerns regarding locks; I really can't agree with taking away locks, especially if it was offered as a free priviledge to begin with. If anything, I think the older/senior members should be able to keep the locks feature but new/future members will not have the option (unless prem?) ... but I guess this is my bias/selfish view because I keep Xanga as a private diary and having no locks in the future gives me second thoughts...
Actually, I'm not really understanding how the pageview cap is going to work..?? I'm still using the classic layout ... so I can see the people I've subscribed's posts without having to click the posts (from my understanding, users with the newer "universal" inbox have to click into the posts to full view the content? I've never actually used it soo I have no clue, seen screenshots and stuffs ... but yah. this is actually one of the reasons why I love Xanga: users are given choices. I'm not being forced to use a new layout/platform that I'm not comforatble with) ... so yes, before my tangent, clicking on the posts to full view the contents = affects pageviews? I know I update somewhat heavily on a daily basis ... so my friends, at times, spam clicks / views ... so how will that affect pageview/traffic on a page? I mean I know I probably don't get THAT much traffic but yah.. Right now, I'm not sure I fully understand the different options on how locks is gonna work in the future, it's kinda confusing, or is it just me??
Regardless, I suppose it's time to either save up for a life premium (LIFE because Xanga is worth it) or shuffle off from here (which I really hope I won't have to, but if no locks will be available in the future and I'm unable to get a prem ... then there's no real options for me here) ...
(1/2) - (2/2)
I think I can understand the frustrations (?) of trying to click on someone's page and feel disappointed that he/she is friend-locked ... but I think, perhaps, if there is a way for people to communicate with each other, even if they're not friends-status'd, it would help? Again, I personally use my Xanga as a private diary, so I don't exactly welcome strangers to browse through/read it (unless I'm comfortable with the person) ... but I've no problem if people want to chat / be friends? I'm just not really ready to open my personal blog up ... maybe I've been using Xanga wrong all along? and should've been putting my posts under protect?? is this something I should reflect on??? .. now I'm confused.
Well, I guess there's always the chat box? but ... honestly, I rarely (close to never) use it ........ it's a nice feature and all, but I guess I just like being elusive
I'm just that phantom user that pops up to comment now and then!
but yah, I think, if people get a chance to interact via something, get to know each other better, maybe they'll be more willing to accept friend invites/let people into their friends-locked blogs. I know I've received friend invites before, but I know nothing about the person ... so I'm reluctant to accept / interact? It's kinda like a stranger that walks up to you and says 'hi be my friend' .. not sure what/how to respond to that? I mean, it's not to say that I automatically assume the person is horrible and that I don't want to be his/her friend ... just, I wouldn't immediately tell the person my whole life story + bring them over to my house for dinner. .. type of thing. ...... maybe I'm being too serious about this whole thing.
Sorry for the tl;dr ... long story short: I'm concerned about the possiblility of lack-of locks/privacy in the future. I mean, truly, I love Xanga from the depth of my heart (seriously), but if locks get taken away, I can't help but feel a little disappointed. I mean, I understand it's for the good of the community and everything... but it's kinda .. I don't know how to explain haha... whelp, I guess I can only trust that the Team makes the right decision for all of us.. it's worked out for the past 9 years for me, so sure, why not.. As for me, I'm just going to try to save up for premimum ... it's something I've always wanted to get, but times are tough now a days, siigh ....
Also! I'm happy to hear that protected posts will be incorporated/implanted in mobile! Personally, I would love to be able to check private messages on mobile
... but I'll just have to wait for that, wait until Xanga is ready~ ... and I just want to take the time to thank Xanga for being here, the past decade+, I've met many wonderful friends through Xanga, so I'm truly thankful ... thank you Xanga! And hang in there!
Very interesting ideas. What percentage of current users would need to start paying for premium to make xanga sustainable? Is premium fee introduction that important to xanga's survival?
i think xanga was my first online social site.
i still use it from time to time, it's always stood out as better than the rest for sure though
It's a shame there are so many jerks who just want to cause trouble on Xanga or NOBODY would feel the need for friends lock.I feel like if I have to go on friends lock, whats the use of posting anything.I want to meet new folks and if I see they are jerks I just ignore them.I don't really understand a protected post myself,if you don't want certain people to see it,why in the world put it on the internet period.Maybe its just me,but if you have to protect what you are saying, maybe it's something you shouldn't be saying at all.
@mystic_sakura -
(from my understanding, users with the newer "universal" inbox have to click into the posts to full view the content?
Not true. There's a Subscriptions tab that lets you read the full content of posts.
@musterion99 -
Ohhh is that so ... cool, good to know, good to know
I guess my friends just aren't used to Xanga (I think it's a hassle for them to have to click on the posts individually; must direct them to the subscription page for easy navigation) ... I'm not really familiar with the newer systems... so thanks for letting me know!
@mystic_sakura - It's the "Subscriptions" tab at the top left next to "Home", not the "subs" tab.
I stll prefer Xanga, over Facebook, Twitter (nobody talks about Xanga in public or on television these days. I saw a brief three second clip about social sites/blogging sites and Xanga was shown
I've been with Xanga many years now. I've met some great people. After getting some spam and trolls, after going through some things in life I didn't want to share with the world, but with my friends, I locked up. Life has not granted me much income for my hobbies, so I have not gone premium. If a cap is set, I'm gone.
Is there some kind of alert that lets you know that your site has exceeded the cap and is only visible to you? That's my only concern. Once I know that I will be notified, then I can refresh the post and it should be visible again, right?
jus' mecm
I use sign in lock because of Chinese spammers. Before this became a must I would say I was a mainstay on the front page,Top Blogs and Featured many times.
I know for a fact I have lost many, many readers. Many potential Xanga members.
I love Xanga, I really do, hell, I NEED this site.
Protect us...and the growth will come.
How's the shoulder Marc?
@grizzlybearr - I disagree. There are people on my friends list that I like and enjoy talking to but don't necessarily want looking at my protected listings.
Indeed, Why not create a button/option that reminds people HEY! you have freinds lock on...the person you just subbed cant see you!
OR
My personal favorite: Allow the sub to sent the new reader a note saying, "Hey, barnacle brain, I am not a friend, I can not see your page, friend me or walk the plank!"
Or, set the function so that if people have friends lock ON they can only sub friends?
BRILLIANT!
Yes, I know....
Sail on... sail on!!!
I hate the idea of this limit for friends-lock. I don't want just anyone to see my site - I had problems with it before and I only have three friends on here because of it. At the same time, I can't afford a premium membership. What limit are you looking to put on it? Because I don't want random people to just be able to see my Xanga, even if it's for a limited amount of time.
Interesting.
@Bricker59 - thanks Bricker. That's our goal! P.S. The shoulder is much better - thanks.
Please define "Classic" member.
@mrswhatserface - well maybe you could also have the protected option as well? That would work too in my opinion.
I'm a premium member, long time Xangan.
You people in mission control stopped listening to me a long time ago.
You want to start now?
Fine.
Allow me to ban buy I.P address.
It's been the single biggest issue from a lot of us for quite some time now.
Also, just what in the heck are page caps?
You never explained that in the article.
And no, I don't use friends lock.
But I like the option of having unlimited protected post,
preferably with a tiered privacy settings....I wouldn't use it much but I'd like to know it's there if I wanted it.
But that's just my opinion. For the record.
Xanga FTW!
@josaju - Classic user means non-premium user.
Glad you are always trying to update xanga, John.
But I want to know why we have such trashy front page articles. Remember those days where posts on the front page were really special and thought provoking? I look at the posts, the titles, and almost every day, I have to shrug my shoulders and say, meh! There are other writers besides the same old names that keep popping up like heads of dandelions.
Why is it that I am not able to recommend some posts. This is a disease that you have to diagnose and treat. Some friends write incredible subject matter and I gladly go to recommend, but I am directed to the top of the page. This is not a new occurance. It has started to rust, that's how long this problem has been going on.
Take care of simple things first please.
Keep up the great work. You have evolved again and again. I appreciate all you and the team are doing.
@TheTheologiansCafe - Dan, you're funny. But if you want to help autisable, I'm open for the assist.
NOOOOOOooooo ::Darth Vader Voice:: LOL
Here’s the deal. I want to keep my page private (currently on Friends Lock and have unfriended EVERYONE).Some people may want to have the whole community thing but some people like to journal their private lives and thoughts without being bothered. (It’s nicer than having a paperback journal or Microsoft Word since it’s accessible anywhere.) I've been on Xanga since 2005 and used it like a private journal for most of my time. A True member.
Don’t alienate the people who are private users. I imagine a better and more sustainable course would be to grow the Xanga community with brand new users. Like TheTheologiansCafe said, spam the crap out of Facebook and other social networking sites. Advertise on Facebook as a site that’s better than “Notes” application (is that even still around?) etc… etc… Don't piss off the private users.
Please!
hello - i have been receiving lots of spam comments on my xanga site - some people opened up many new accounts to comment on my photo blog to advertise for replica watches… this has been going on since years ago, but recently it got serious, as I get a dozen comments each day which are all spams.
I cannot block users from commenting on my photos, and deleting the comments one by one is simply time wasting….
Can xanga please fix this spam problem and prevent constant spamming ??
Thanks a lot!
I think Classic members should be allowed to archive their blogs. Just saying. When I shut down my old account, I couldn't save any blogs because I don't have Premium.
Sounds like a good plan. The whole reason I blog on Xanga is because of the community -and- the multiple privacy settings. I love having a protected list.
Sounds Great while you are working on aSustainable and Growing Future for Xanga- work on taking cyber bullying more seriously!
I left for a long time bc of this ( you never dealt with it or apologized in any fashion) & now I am back but keeping a low profile...
I am so glad that you did not sell out and continue to provide us with this amazing community, I never use locks but I like knowing that I can if necessary. I so appreciate you and the rest of the Xanga team!
Seems like a reasonable way to balance the needs of Xanga with the wants of the community. I also like the idea of the community being able to work together and, if we achieve certain goals, being able to enjoy rewards.
@ordinarybutloud - and xanga loves you too.
Just want you guys to know that Mancouchers like me aren't able to give Gift Premium with Xanga credits. I have a lot of credits to share!
@I_love_Xenga - I agree. We all want to be able to archive our entries without Premium.
How about Xanga... Why U No update settings page? lol I did a humerous post on that but everyone says they have noticed that since they were here. And another thing... what's up with the people ganging up on Malaysians? Is there any way to warn them and take action if needed? Degrading societies just doesn't seem right, especially when it's a group of people that have intentionally set out for the purpose of doing it. Thanks.
i don't understand any of this .. i'm a premium user and do not want anyone other than my friends to ever find my site .. it is for very personal use only .. how threatened should i feel about this?
I'm all for increasing the revenue stream and making this site more viable and sustainable. This place helps keeps my sanity. I don't use locks or protected lists now. But maybe I might in the future. I appreciate you folks looking for feedback as well before implementing major changes.
One area that I would like to see a bit more options are themes. I know it's low on the priority list. If there's a way to get more themes that would be great.
Marc, not to sound blunt... but a quick look at compete.com and you'll know that the sign-in lock and protected postings are the least of your worries.
Xanga is dying, and instead of watching it bleed a slow and painful death, I wish you guys would take some bold calculated risks with the site. There's so many paths and avenues to take it that I wonder why you're still caring about the micro fixes that barely affect your bottom line.
I feel like when I visit xanga, I'm going back in time to 2002, the site hasn't changed all that much in an age where everything is going social, viral, and mobile.
As a first step, it would be nice if you guys hired a great designer to clean up and simplify the site. There's too much legacy functionality everywhere. I would just remove it all and go back to your core functionalities. Then, make everything simpler and easier to use. With the world moving towards great design and simplicity, this is a must. Pinterest got it right, tumblr got it right, take a step back and think about how a blog in 2012 would function.
I think there's probably two things I like about Xanga. The community, as everyone has mentioned, is really strong. Though that's good and bad because people tend to share less outside of Xanga, so you should think about how that affects the site.
The 2nd is that I believe Xanga actually has a lot of very good and talented writers. Perhaps there is a way to leverage that fact... maybe work with a publisher and start turning your blogs into a personal book... that could be an interesting monetization strategy. I dunno... you guys just need to start thinking outside of the box. It saddens me to see something I grew up with go past its prime.
Anyway, just my two cents.
Thanks for the update; I appreciate that you folks tend to let us know first (and seek feedback) rather than springing stuff on us. *coughfacebookcough*
Well crap. I NEED locks on my site, but I really don't like this page view cap idea. I also don't have the money to buy premium, especially when I use *none* of the features it offers. How can I be the only person not happy about this?
When I read a post like this, I say to myself, "ok, I'll stay on Xanga."
What can the Xanga community do to assist the Xanga team to secure revenue? I promoted topical sites a while ago to Xanga. Those can be opened up and Xangans Who create a good site with a good topic...can earn revenue or perks through their site. You have the infrastructure...not its time to think outside of the box
Maybe with the offering of unlimited protected lists, people will not be so inclined to use friends lock anymore? I never liked the idea of using friends lock because it was a huge turn off for me to go to a random person's blog and see "This Xangan has turned on Friends Lock" or whatever the message is. I kinda like my setup - I have public posts that I don't mind everyone reading, then more private posts that only my protected list can see, and finally private posts just for myself.
Thanks for all your hard work over these years.
@Yosho - Great advice! Funny enough, today was my first day back on Xanga in a long time, and I remarked to my friend that just visiting the website made me feel like I was a high schooler again. I would love for there to be an update to the blog editor.

your title 'a sustainable and growing future for xanga' is a perfect place to post this because I doubt there will be one if something doesn't get done about the ongoing hate blogging from celestial teapot.
I saw John of Xanga talking to celestial teapot in public about his hate problem about a month ago, but he's still here and yesterday he published the results of his two years of stalking me, his hacking and digging into my real life, he published all of this in a hate blog against me.
A few years ago I blocked Celestial_Teapot once and for all, after having given him several chances after he apologized each time. Since then, I had little to no contact with him that's for a couple of years now, nonetheless yesterday out of nowhere, he posted his truths/lies blog (going around xanga) about me, instead of about him, and he published my personal information that he googled.
It's hatefully presented and many on his blog have told him so, and that what he's doing is wrong, and we've flagged it, and where is xanga team?.
In the interim he stalked me, hacked me, somehow got my name, published my name and birthdate, took them down and then published, on his latest blog about truths/lies, my age stating "she's a 57 year old hag" my husbands and my height and weight, half of a story about an arrest ommiting the fact that the charges were dropped, negative commentary on the age gap between myself and my husband, snide ridicule about my academic publications and his negative opinion of them, and just a generic hate blog.
he researched my marriage license and posted the height and weight of myself and my husband so he could make fun of my husband being allegedly fat.
xanga can't police hacking and stalking and googling but you sure can do something about people who google other xangans and then write hateful and misleading blogs about said people from the results of their stalking and googling.
This is a man who has stalked a xangan, all I did was want to distance myself from him. For two years, at least, I've had him blocked.
If you look at this flagged blog, look at the comments. even godless liberal asked him what I did to deserve it., If you read his comment, you'll not see an answer, just a bunch of rationalizing.
slmret and other mature people who never get involved in 'drama' and many people have told him he's doing wrong.
where is xanga team?
On xanga, our stories are our stories to tell, we should be allowed to tell as much or as little of our own stories as we want. It should be against policy to google and write about others if only because only the haters are going to do it, and when they do it they will do it hatefully.
He even launched into my dead father, an Army veteran, maintaining my father was involved in some massacre against civilians in vietnam, when the truth is that my father was terminally ill in 68 when that happened in vietnam and dead by 71 and my fathers honorable military service was in a peace keeping in Okinawa in the early fifties.
It was stalking, hacking, googling, and pure hatred. Many xangans have told celestial teapot what they think. you'd find, in his responses, he sees nothing wrong with it.
he's profiling hatred based on age and 'alternative relationships' older woman younger man, he's full of hate toward me and he can't even say why, he just says 'freedom of speech.'
freedom of speech has restrictions on it wherever you go. the people who own the companies and businesses you work for or participate in decide what freedom of speech is as it pertains to hate speech and hate profiling, posting personal information against other xangans should be totally banned on xanga.
please let me know what xanga policy is on this and how long celestial teapot is going to get to keep on hate blogging on xanga. You're about to lose a lot of people, people (I can show you) people are afraid about their safety and their privacy if xanga doesn't put the skids on people like celestial teapot.
I am not a premium user but I do not get more than 10 people allowed on the protected list currently. Btw, I am sorry to hear that you want to limit the posting ability of users who use locks. The strong sense of community exists here because we can select our own community and keep out the unwanted ones. I understand the site needs to generate cash. I wonder how Facebook continues to function as it offers multiple levels of privacy options and ability to post things for different groups of targeted audience aka friends.
Thank you so much for this update. You guys
provide excellent customer service, especially when compared with other
companies. Glad to hear about upcoming capacity for unlimited people on
protected lists.
